Had instructions for a young woman/girl to where she could understand and apply.

Really didn't like how this book featured a lot of "corrective makeup." Not a fan of makeup artists telling women what's wrong with their perfectly normal and beautiful features. Skip this one.

Book Review- 10-Minute Makeup by Boris Entrup This book was a reference for looks in makeup that readers might want to achieve. It gave pictures and instructions on how to get these certain looks. It included a list and description of tools that are needed. Skin care was discussed in some detail. Items and products used for skin care were defined and explained when and how to use. When describing the make up looks, they used before and after pictures when showing the looks. They also gave a worded description on how to obtain the look they showed in the picture. However I wish they would have shown more pictures with application techniques. It was all explained in word form and I felt I was reading the same thing over and over again. It got a bit boring. In digital format the pictures were small, so hopefully they will be bigger and more detailed in book form. This book is not for beginners. Most of the looks seemed like they would appear on the run way and were a bit over the top for everyday use. There were looks I would be open to attempt, but I felt the instructions were not enough for me to achieve the look the authors were going for. I did like the advice on colors for certain eye shape and color. Also some of the tricks they used like the spoon for applying mascara were unique. I would definitely use that. I wish they revealed more tricks that would carry over to an everyday makeup application. I was really disappointed with this book. I was expecting it to be a more hands on explanation with more pictures showing technique. It was more of a lecture and I didn’t feel I came away with learning anything. In fact after a while I grew bored reading it. I would only give it a 2 out of 5.

I was interested in this book because my two daughters are starting to wear makeup and since I never used that much I didn't have much knowledge to share. This book is perfect for us. 10- Minute Makeup is an easy to understand guide. I love how the book starts with basic information about skincare, brushes/tools, and products. The step by step guide shows before/after shots, illustrations with the makeup, tips, and tricks to achieve the looks. The book is very well designed. I also love that no certain brand/company was used. No advertising! The book gives you basic information about the products and even what colors are best used to achieve certain looks. For example, bronze is a great all purpose color. It suits most skin tones, whether it is used as an eyeshadow, blush, or on the lips. Every style has an extra tip off to the side to add something a little different to the look described on the page. We are very happy with this purchase.

Tried to return. Couldn't. You could never go out in public with any of these looks. Terrible.

I love this book! It is basically a beginner's guide to 50 different makeup looks. The looks are "classic" enough that this will not be useless in a few years, and they range from natural-looking to very colorful (I think all but 5 could be worn during the day). It provides step-by-step instructions and diagrams - even what parts of your eyelids to put the eyeshadow on - I love that! It would be a perfect gift for an older teenager or somebody getting their first job, paired with one of those huge makeup kits!!! I myself am in my mid 30s but have always been a reluctant tomboy since nobody ever taught me this stuff. I plan on using this book to teach myself! I have always read fashion magazines and have picked up a few things here and there, but this has all the info you could need in one place. This book is also organized very well. Near the front, there are 2 pages with thumbnail photos of all the looks so you can see them all at once and decide which you want to do that day. :) It also has several info / technique pages covering foundation, concealer, blush, face shapes, eyes, pencil eyeliner, eyelashes, liquid eyeliner, lips, smoky eyes, and eyebrows. I really love the contouring info on the foundation page and plan to try this! The only thing I didn't like (why I'm giving it 4 stars) is that it doesn't provide information on what kind of makeup shades to look for when you go shopping to get the results in the book. I have pale skin (like about 75% of the models in the book), so I think I can manage, but I still would have liked to have seen it! If you're clueless like me, I guess you could take the book with you and ask a salesperson what kind of colors to buy. It does, however, cover what types of makeup (foundation, blush, etc) and brushes to buy. So maybe he left out advice on shades because that's such a personal decision. Anyway, all in all this is a wonderful book, perfect for anybody clueless or a beginner at makeup!

This is an expertly illustrated book on how to apply makeup. I found it really easy to follow and picked up on so many new tricks. I looked more polished after trying some of the looks in this book. The book also details how to cut your routine down to ten minutes. With a bit of practice and this book you can achieve a full face in under ten minutes that is current and attractive. A perfect gift for teens that will keep them busy for weeks.

I found this book to be a little intriguing. I've always loved cosmetology books since I was in my pre-teen years. I would buy or check them out at the library. I'm much more time-constrained now so I thought "Ten minute make-up? That's what I need!" Well...let me explain why I only gave it three stars. Let's start out with why it's a VERY GOOD book. First, it's reasonably priced for a hardback book. At the time I'm writing this review it runs about $10. Not bad. Next, it does give very good advice as far as what you need in your toolbox of cosmetics, so to speak. Brushes, makeup, etc... Items you'll need to get the looks in the book. Finally, they do give basic advice on how to apply various types of cosmetics: lipstick, etc... All of this is why it gets three stars rather than one star. What I didn't like....Many of the looks that the author goes for are not, well, ordinary. I can imagine many of the looks being on the runway or in a magazine, but not on a teenager/young woman in her everyday life. There ARE some looks that can be used, but not many of them. If you like extreme, then this is the book for you. If you want to blend in, this isn't the book for you.
