Not an album for kids, but at this point what difference does that make?
I'll admit that when I first pre-ordered this album, I was kind of worried. Because I hated We Can't Stop and that's the first Miley song I've ever truly hated before. But I gave her the benefit of the doubt because I've loved all her albums up until now, and if there's one thing I've learned over the years, often times the first single is the worst song on the album. That theory was proven right when I listened to the album. As a whole, I don't find the INSTANT super-love for this album like I did with CBT, but I do like it. And I'm sure I'll love it the more I listen to it. After all, the best albums are the growers (to me at least). If you're still one of the few people that's looking for child-appropriate music from Miley Cyrus, you're not gonna find any here. Although I'm not really sure why anybody would after the Can't Be Tamed era. But anyway. The album starts out with a sweet, slow song called "Adore You". It's about Miley telling someone that no matter how much they love her, she loves them more. The next track on the album is "We Can't Stop". I'm pretty sure you all have heard it by now. If you haven't, consider yourself lucky. She has much better tracks on this album than that one."SMS (Bangerz)", a duet with Britney Spears, comes afterwards. This song is an acquired taste for many people - you either like it or you don't. I personally like it, but I might be slightly biased because I've been wanting a Britney/Miley duet ever since I first got into Britney. It's a really fun song that puts me in a good mood and makes me feel very confident."4x4", a duet with Nelly, is another one that many people's opinions are divided on. I think it's good, other than that one line (and you'll KNOW which one I'm talking about when you listen to it). This is the song on the album I think is the most routed in country music, although it may still be something hard for country fans with a dislike for pop to get into."My Darlin' (feat. Future)" is another very sweet and slow song. Very relaxing in my opinion. Just the song you need to calm you down."Wrecking Ball" - Again, I'm sure you all have heard this one by now, judging by the huge controversy over the music video. If you haven't though, you should (listen to the song, I mean). It's a very sad song that I can tell Miley put a lot of her heart into. You can almost hear her crying during parts of it."Love Money Party (feat. Big Sean)" is probably my 2nd least favorite song on the album. It's not that it's TERRIBLE by any means. The lyrics just don't go with the tune very well in my opinion. Maybe if it had a different tune I'd like it better."#Getitright" is up next. This is for sure one of the fan favorites on the album. She starts out the song by whistling. It's definitely one of her most explicit songs yet, as far as the subject matter goes. Telling the person she's singing to, "don't you think it's time to get it on?" Definitely a song to be listened to in private."Drive" is another ballad. Very powerful lyrics. One of my favorites for sure. The next song, however, is a very midtempo song. Sung mainly in acronyms, it's telling this person to back the heck off because she saw what was on your phone. It's a duet with French Montana. Miley really seems to have a lot of duets on this album. After that, "Do My Thang" comes on. This song a lot of Miley fans are praising, but personally I don't think it lives up to the hype. It's OKAY, but not that great in my opinion."Maybe You're Right" is probably one of the most powerful ballads on the album, next to "Wrecking Ball". The way she sings this song, you can tell it means a lot to her."Someone Else" - Again, another really amazing ballad. Her ballads are definitely the highlight of this album in my opinion. The bonus tracks (Rooting For My Baby, On My Own, and Hands In The Air (feat. Ludacris)) are probably my favorite songs on the album. I don't wanna review them individually though because I have a feeling it'll be getting really repetitive. All in all, an amazing album. I'm not sure yet if I love it more or less than her previous albums, but the more I listen to it, I'll figure it out. Definitely a grower.Don't judge the album on "We Can't Stop". The rest of the songs are nothing like it in my opinion. And even if you don't like Miley the person right now, try giving Miley the artist a try. You may be surprised with what you find.

A new beginning for Miley Cyrus, the independent woman
After releasing 'Can't Be Tamed' in June 2010, Miley proclaimed she would take a break from music in order to pursue an acting career and being inspired by life. She truly did, and many good and bad things happened between that album and 'Bangerz'. There was huge controversy due to a leaked video of her smoking salvia, she went on tour, she acted in 2 negatively received movies (LOL and So Undercover), she got engaged to Liam Hemsworth (and later broke up with him), she chopped off her hair and dyed it blonde, she grew up and officially entered her 20s, she officially cancelled her contract with Hollywood Records and signed with RCA, she hired a whole new management team, and she finally started working on her next album. She turned into a new person, an independent woman who takes her own decisions, and she prepared to release new music without Disney's help and guidance. She officially released the controversial lead single 'We Can't Stop', her rebirth and the beginning of the Bangerz era. The album was released in October 2013, and I'm going to review it:1. Adore You - The album's first track. A ballad that opens the album, about basically adoring someone, it sounds more mature than Miley's previous ballads and her voice is a lot stronger and more grown up. I like it, but it's not my favorite song. I give it a 8.5/102. We Can't Stop - The album's second track and first single. The song that started her rebirth, it's a song about a house party in which everyone takes over, produced by Mike Will Made-It who helped Miley créate a new image and her new musical direction. The song marked Miley's rebirth and it's a departure from her previous work, as it's a mixture of pop, dance and R&B and not too electronic or rock heavy. Definitely the album's highlight, it was a perfect choice to start the era, the song will be very remembered for its catchiness (as well as the highly controversial music video and VMA performance). I give it a 10/103. SMS (Bangerz) - The album's third track. A collaboration with miss Britney Spears, definitely another highlight, Miley and Britney's voice sound incredible together, not much to say about it. I give it a 10/104. 4x4 - The album's fourth track. A song that mixes country and hip hop elements, Miley sings with a Southern accent about how she's a female rebel, it's very different but I found myself replaying it a lot, it's very addictive and one of my favorites. I give it a 10/105. My Darlin' - The album's fifth track. I didn't really feel the song at first, as I found it very repeatitive (as Miley and the featured artist Future keep singing 'My darlin', stand by me'), but now I actually like it, it's relaxing and I love its production. I give it a 9/106. Wrecking Ball - The album's sixth track and second single. A ballad about a breakup, in which Miley says that she will always want her former lover, and uses a wrecking ball to say how she fell hard. The strongest ballad on the album, it's accompained by a dubstep infuenced breakdown in the chorus which reminds me of Rihanna's 'What Now'. It also caused controversy, due to the video in which she appears naked swinging on a real wrecking ball. I give it a 10/107. Love Money Party - The album's seventh track. A club-ready track similar to Rihanna's 'Pour It Up', about wanting love, money and a party. Like Rihanna's song, I found it a bit out of place and boring, don't like it that much. I give it a 6/108. #GETITRIGHT - The album's eighth track. A a feel-good Summer track, originally planned to be the album's lead single, it reminds me a bit of Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky'. It's really cool, but I think 'We Can't Stop' was the right choice for the lead single. I give it a 9/109. Drive - The album's ninth track. An electronic track about a lover who lied, it's very addictive and would be a good single choice. I give it a 10/1010. FU - The album's tenth track. The song probably chronicles her breakup with Liam, she's basically saying "f*** you" to him and angrily says he broke her heart, and wonders why he did what he did. Musically it has a crazy piano with an electronic production behind, it sounds like a comedic song or something like that, but I love its vibe. I give it a 10/1011. Do My Thang - The album's eleventh track. The weakest track on the album, it sounds like pure filler and the lyrics sound stupid, she swears too much. 'We Can't Stop' may have lyrics about partying irresponsibly and all that, but they are truly secondary to the catchiness, anthemic nature and genius production, this song isn't even catchy. I give it a 1/1012. Maybe You're Right - The album's twelfth track. Another breakup ballad, in which Miley tells her former lover that he might think she's crazy, lost and foolish for leaving him behind, and that he could be right. It's very cute and her vocal performance is strong. I give it a 9/1013. Someone Else - The album's thirteenth track. This is like an instant sequel to 'Maybe You're Right', as it seems her ex was right and she's presumably telling someone interested in her that she can't help him, because she's turned into someone else and she's hurting herself. I give it a 9/10Deluxe bonus tracks:14. Rooting For My Baby - The album's fourteenth track. Damn, this song is just so good, it's a smooth acoustic track about being in love with someone, it was probably dedicated to Liam while they were together, it's my favorite song on the whole album and I pre-ordered the Deluxe edition just for this track, as I fell in love with it just by hearing the preview. I give it a 10/1015. On My Own - The album's fifteenth track. A song that chronicles her rebirth and doing things on her own, it reminds me a bit of Madonna's 'She's Not Me'. I give it a 9/1016. Hands In The Air - The album's sixteenth track. I'm not too fond of this song, Ludacris' verse didn't help either. I give it a 6.5/10'Bangerz' is definitely a complete departure from Miley's previous works, and it's the end of her transition from a teen pop sensation to an adult pop superstar. Still, I give it a 4/5 on Amazon because there were 3 songs I didn't enjoy. 'The Time Of Our Lives' and 'Can't Be Tamed' maybe weren't her definite transition, but I liked all of the songs on them so they remain my favorite Miley albums. Miley has stated that she feels disconnected from her previous albums and that she feels like 'Bangerz' is her debut album, and I understand it in a way, Miley is in a different place in her life and career, things have changed during the past 3 years and she's already entered adulthood. Still, I appreciate all of Miley's music, she's a superstar and her music is great, I don't care about her public image, she's free to do whatever she wants to and express herself as she wants to. 'It's my mouth and I can say what I want to'.

I'm surprised by how much I enjoy this album
I'm not really into pop music, can't stand most of it or anything seen on MTV these days. I have tons of CDs and maybe 15 of them fall into the modern pop category. I like classic rock, older alt rock, classical, and a touch of metal. That being said, I really like what Miley has done here. Bangerz is by no means an extraordinary, life changing album but it's fun and great for when you need to change up your playlist. Some songs are light and fun- We Can't Stop, (SMS) Bangerz, 4×4 . Some show a bit more substance and emotion- Wrecking Ball, Someone Else, Rooting For My Baby. There are even songs that are fun and angry- F.U., Do My Thang. I generally despise when a guest rapper comes in and blabs for a bit in otherwise enjoyable pop song but it didn't bother me here. Miley has a nice voice and actually sings unlike certain people (Katy Perry) seem to just yell at you through their auto tuned monstrosities. Mostly the songs are thoughtfully put together and I can tell Miley and her crew worked hard to create this. For me the weakest track on the album is "Love Money Party" which feels like a rehash of Gaga's "Beautiful Dirty Rich". Usually the tracks on deluxe edition albums feel half hearted and aren't worth it. I wouldn't say the extra tracks here are essential but they are better than expected.I'm thoroughly impressed with Miley Cyrus. As far as pop music goes I give it 5 stars. While I have zero interest in her music prior to this, I look forward to seeing what she'll do in the future.
