How long are the screws?

They’re like 1/2 inch...I used a 1 inch for a better bite. They look too short for holding on a table top.

The instructions shown are for figure-8 type fasteners. What are the instructions for these fasteners, most important, what are the slot dimensions?

No slot required. I used a (3/8"?) forstner bit to "bury" the slot into the rails.
