Solid device. Best $25 I've ever spent.

Simple, inexpensive, functional, and light. What's not to love? And it works with both the 11+mm gym ropes you are likely to encounter as well as 9mm lead climbing ropes. I also own an XP Guide and much prefer the ATC XP for gym use. The rope slots in the Guide are narrower for some reason and it does not work well with fat gym ropes. So unless you actually intend to top belay someone, this is what you want.

This thing works as advertised and does a great job. It’s easy to use, well built and I really like the different friction settings for differing speeds of belay/rappelling. It will not work with a 10mm rope and may not work for slightly smaller ropes as well; anything over 9mm I wouldn’t say it will work. It will be great for rec climbing, but rappelling or rescue/recovery work with a thicker or static rope will be difficult.

Great little ATC Device!

I like it. It's a solid atc. It does it's job, I live in the Seattle area and it got here in decent time. Black diamond is a solid brand. I'd recommend their stuff all day

After trying a buddy's I had to get one. Compared to my Edelrid Jul Sport the feeding was so much smoother and the feel was overall more confident. Braking performance is consistent and it's very light. Probably one of the best tube style belay devices on the market.

This belay device worked very well. Is is so easy to use, the friction is good for a a beginner to belay a large size climber. I cannot wait to train my boy top rope climbing this weekend.

The classic and recommended beginner belay device for a reason. Well made, great quality. It does it all, single or dual rope, belaying and allows for abseiling. Still my preferred belay device after 24 years of climbing. This requires a standard belay method which teaches you good belay technique for any style of device In the future. A much better way to learn than learning an assisted belay method to start with a specialist belay device, which then means you never have the right technique for any other situation in the future. Highly recommended.

Excellent quality item, only used once but I'm still alive, so that's got to be a good thing! Friction could be slightly higher, but I've been told one can use 2 biners under it instead of one to help with this. Overall, very impressed
