Q: Do you know the strength of these magnets in lbs of holding force? Thanks for the answers to my earlier question too!

Afraid I don't know pounds of holding force but I can say that I purchased this magnet to hold my gauge in place while scuba diving and it does NOT hold strong enough to keep it in place. I'm sure I can find another use for it but holding gauge is not it.

The top is made of aluminum with an embedded magnet. the bottom (attached to your hose) is made of plastic with an embedded magnet. You need to keep both magnets covered with silicon grease or they will rust out quickly. As with most of your dive gear, proper maintenance will increase the longevity of the device.

I use some clear nail polish on a new magnet. I put multiple layers letting it it completely dry between applications. This has worked for me to prevent rusting. I did have one that already developed rust and sanded the rust off and applied the polish. However that did not work as the rust already developed inside the edges.

Q: Does this effect your compass?

Let me start with the fact that I LOVE this thing. That said, I can't use it because it absolutely affects my compass. The magnet is very strong. I used it for my octo and was completely unable to navigate by computer or backup compass as I keep the compass or computer (while in use) and the octo in my triangle. When within 12 inches of the compass, the compass is off by 45 degrees depending on which pole of the magnet is facing the compass. I'd have had to stuff it in my boot if not for my dive buddy's compasses. I'm posting a video review. I love every other thing about it. I wish I could use it. I won't send it back because there HAS to be a use for it.

Safe and easy to install

Easy to install. Sturdy materials.Much safer and easier than tucking the Octopus hose in a D-Ring on the BCD. Will also help avoid wear and tear on the hose by not folding it into the D-Ring
