I have fair skin, this gets me dark. I do two to three coats. I’ll probably buy the darkest color when I reorder as I have the second to darkest. I leave it on all day. Then wash it off the next morning. By the time I shower any color that comes off is very minimal- just the color guide which is a slightly gray tint. I end up coming out of the shower as dark as I was going into the shower, just with a beautiful brown color minus the slight gray hue. I, like many here, have used almost every self tanner on the market. This stuff is cheap and gives you a deep, dark tan, what more could you ask for? The color doesn’t settle right away so you can check it out once done in one area and you have time to even it out if you need to. I never have streaks or am blotchy. Just be sure to properly prep your skin, this is the key to an even, beautiful tan. If you’re a beginner do your research, or read the pro tips below. I wish someone had given me these tips before I first started on my self-tanning journey. Here is how I prep and how I keep my tan lasting as long as possible. - Start exfoliating two to three days prior to tanning. (Here’s why this first step is MOST important: If you just exfoliate once, you’re going to get a bunch of dead skin cells off, but you’re not going to get everything off. When you tan dead skin cells, those dead skin cells are going to eventually shed themselves not at the same time as the other skin cells, and so you’ll left looking patchy or spotty. I use Indie Lee’s ‘Coconut Citrus Body Scrub,’ but any salt or sugar scrub you like will do. If you have dry skin, use a moisturizing body scrub as exfoliating can be abrasive and remove moisture. - Remove hair the day before with an epilator or by waxing, something long term so you don’t have to shave your color off. If you must shave, shave the day of tanning when you shower, not the day before. - Shower the day of tanning- but WAIT to tan. You want your skin to be clean when you apply your self-tanner, but you should wait a little bit post-shower to slather on tanner. When you get out of the shower, your skin is more absorptive and the self-tanner or the bronzer [can] seep into your pores, which can leave you with a speckled appearance, almost looks like blackheads or freckles. **If you're in a hurry to apply, you can run ice cold water over skin for 15 seconds to prevent seepage, but your skin should be completely dry before applying tanner to prevent uneven application. - Protect your hands and feet, apply a fragrance free moisturizer because if you don’t they will be orange. Go for a non-oily moisturizer that absorbs quickly. Make sure whatever you use even if it’s something you have to use in a bind, that it COMPLETELY absorbs into skin first. For dry skin do two coats. I VERY lightly apply moisturizer to knees and elbows and lightly apply tanner on these areas as well. - Use a tanning mitt, for small areas like feet you can use a make up brush, it works just as well as a tanning brush- trust me I’ve used both. Doing this ensures a subtle tan in those areas also. I use one for my face also, and blend it into my hairline in circular motions. - Work from the feet up. Your body creases and so will your tanner if you don’t. - If you forget to pick up a sling tanner for your back, use a spatula and put it in your mitt. (Don’t judge 😂) - WASH HANDA IMMEDIATELY AFTER. Use a makeup brush to blend the areas around your hands and wrists so that you don't finish with a line. - To preserve your self-tan for as long as possible, take lukewarm showers. Once you get out of the shower, be sure to pat yourself dry instead of rubbing and always moisturize. If you need to wear something tight like a sports bra, apply talc-free baby powder onto your skin before you wear it to make sure your tan stays glowing. To keep up with your tan for as long as possible be sure to use these showering tips towards the bottom. When you remove hair try a cream hair remover, avoid shaving if you’re gonna keep up the tan. Reapply as needed, every few days should do the trick.

Before now, I had only used the Jergens gradual lotion. It was orange and didn’t absorb well, yet I was worried about using anything else. I just didn’t know what to expect and didn’t have ANY experience with self-tanner. I did do some research, watched some YouTube videos, and decided to go for this. I also bought some dr. teals scrub and the exfoliating gloves from Walmart, in preparation for using the self-tanner. (Super cheap) Even if you think you don’t have dead skin, you do!! I promise!! You’ll want to exfoliate before applying. Through everything I found, most people don’t like using the self-tan mitts. I guess they soak up a LOT of the product. From others recommendations, I used “vinyl exam gloves” to apply (often used in food prep). That way I didn’t get it all over my hands. I also used a makeup sponge at the end, to blend out my ankles, knees, elbows, etc. This really does dry pretty fast!! Wayyy better than the lotion I was using. Now, I am veryyy pale and don’t necessarily want the darkest tan in the world. I just want a little bit of color so that I can wear shorts. Still, you will want to leave it on for longer than an hour. I would say a minimum of 3 hours, but 6-8 hours would probably be ideal. If not, you’ll likely end up applying a second coat. And if you want a truly dark tan, you’ll probably want that second coat no matter what. If you only leave on for an hour, I think you might be disappointed- even if you’re not going for a super tan look. (Though, if you’re nervous just do the hour and see! Like I said, a second coat is totally possible!) So I started with my “everything” shower; wash hair/body, exfoliate, shave, etc. Then, I pulled my hair up, as you do not want ANY water drips causing streaks. I let my skin dry and then began applying the tan using the vinyl gloves. I started from the top and worked my way down, rubbing it in until it dried- and then brushing my hand/glove to smooth it out. I worked in sections. Like I said, I also used a makeup sponge and dabbed/blended my elbows, ankles, knees, etc. I also put a little bit on the makeup sponge and did my feet and toes. (Just a little bit to blend) I was really worried about my knees. The Jergens would leave dark streaks on any bones sticking out. This did not!!! And I promise, as uncoordinated as I am— it’s really easy!! I let it dry for a few minutes and then put on some old clothes and waited. After a few hours, I got back in the shower and simply rinsed it all off. It was really that easy!! I did not apply lotion before the tan, but did apply after I rinsed it off- and as needed throughout the week to keep my skin from creating dry spots. (For the future) I also bought this same brands gradual lotion, anticipating I would fail at this- and it’s also great! I prefer this though, with the lotion as needed throughout the week or if I need to go longer than a week. I have been so impressed!! Showering alone doesn’t take it off. Exfoliating, does. And exfoliating really is necessary after about a week, in order to have another smooth application. The other reviews were right, don’t be deceived by the bottle— it’s not the darkest in the world. I personally find it perfect!! It’s almost buildable if you want a reallyy dark tan. Otherwise, it’s just right!! I really love the tone. It’s not orange. Even my mom bought some she was so impressed by how natural I look!! Anyways, I just wanted to share especially for those who are hesitant and/or nervous. I reallyy should have taken before and after pics. I don’t feel like I can really do it justice. I promise it works and it’s not nearly as terrifying as it feels!!! ❤️

I was prepared to hate this product, but WOW, just wow. It is fantastic and I will definitely be buying it again and using it in my regular line up of summer beauty products. And you can't beat the price. For how affordable this is, I was not expecting it to be this good. Let me be clear. I haven't used self-tanners in a really long time. I'm talking maybe 5 years, but probably more like 7 to 10 except for a brief foray into using a light product that I bought a yard sale that didn't work at all. And let me tell you that either this one is insanely good, or in that loooong time frame of my absence, self tanners have improved. A LOT. They used to stink and be super sticky and gross and orangey. This one is not. It is amazing in every way. So I'm going to write a review and it's going to be long for the people who really need to know what they're getting before they get it. If you're not that person, this isn't for you, sorry. I'm also going to include directions for all the people out there who will try this half-heartedly and say it didn't work. That bugs me. So if you want to know the TRUE scoop and all the details on this product, read this, or skim it at least. First of all the only, and I mean ONLY, reason I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is because the naming conventions are idiotic. They're meant to be cute and edgy with their flirting with profanity but the honest truth is it just makes it more confusing. This is important because I am super pale and I need the most bang for my buck with color. I had to Google and click on two websites to figure out that the one that I got, Tanned AF, is level 4 out of 5. There is a darker one if you want that, but I'm too lazy to Google it again and figure out what it is. That said, this stuff is amazing. It is literally the least smelly of any tanner I've ever used in my life. Now maybe tanners have improved in that way (remember I haven't used one in a really long time) and they're all like this now, but I don't know. I'm just impressed by how little it smells, even after it sits on your body for a while. The next thing you need to know is that everyone is reviewing it and saying you need to exfoliate, and this is super true. DO IT! I exfoliated for two days using a nice gritty exfoliator and exfoliating gloves and that's a really important step. I probably could have done it for one more day to prepare. The next thing you need to know is that applying is WAY better with a tanning mitt. I have never used one before and it was wonderful. I would recommend getting more than one because I needed multiple coats and my tanning mitt was drying from being washed out, so I couldn't use it the third time. Okay, so now the directions. First, lotion your rougher areas like your knees. Then get your tanning mit on and really slather the stuff on there and rub it in evenly. I can't emphasize this enough. If you rub it in really well, you'll get a beautiful, even tan. I don't know why people are complaining about the gray color because it really helped me to me make sure I was rubbing it in with even strokes and not letting anything get clumped up anywhere. The next thing you need to know is be PATIENT. On me, it absolutely took at least 6 hours to develop. At first it looks like it's doing nothing. Just wait. I actually recommend putting it on right before you go to bed and then letting it develop overnight. Do NOT wash it off after an hour like it says in the directions, for any kind of reason! That said, it dried really fast and didn't feel super sticky even though I put on two coats on to begin with. I just put on a dark cotton dress and went about my business. This is an amazing improvement in self tanners because I used to feel absolutely sticky and gross for HOURS with my old ones back in the day. I even put on a third coat right before bed and let it dry and it didn't make my sheets all smelly and sticky. It should be noted that I had to put the third coat on with my hands (because my tanning mitt was still drying after washing it out) and I just did it super quickly and rubbed it in well. Then I washed my hands very thoroughly and I did not get tan hands. This is really where I could also see that it wasn't smelly because even though it had been on my hand they hardly smelled that all. Lastly, the color is TERRIFIC!! I get tan on my arms from working in the garden all summer, so I know what my true "tan" color should look like from that situation. This is a very true to color, beautiful golden brown like no tanner I've ever had before. Way to go b.tan! I'm super impressed overall. If you've tried self-tanners in the past and didn't like them, or have been wanting to dabble in self-tanning and are willing to take all the steps, get this product!! You will not be disappointed. And remember, this is coming from a super white, pale, pasty person who hasn't used tanning products in a long time. I was going to be super hard to please, but they did it!!

This honestly is the best tanning mousse I ever used that is budget friendly for super pale folks. I only wish it came in darker. :( I had to apply 3 layers just to see a real SLIGHT difference on my pale skin. CONS: Other than that, the only other downsides of this is that it DEFINITELY feels icky after you put it on. So it might be wise to go to sleep in it so you won’t get overstimulated, lol. With that being said, it does NOT take only an hour to develop. If you want to see even a slight difference, you are going to want to apply several layers, which is tricky because this product does NOT dry down. You have to do it over the course of a couple of days. Be sure to put a towel or 2 down beforehand because it WILL transfer. It doesn’t dry down until hours later. You will for sure look gray after you apply it, I looked like a corpse- which I knew I would look funky initially. You always do with a good tanning mousse. It’s definitely a ‘trust the process kinda thing. It won’t stick to stretch marks, and it will stick to your pores if you have big pores like me. I’ve been using self tanners for a while, so I prepped right- I promise. It’s definitely the product, HOWEVER, let’s get to the pros. PROS: This is the BEST color I have ever used in my life. I am being so serious. It does last 7-10 days too, you just have to take care of your skin like you are supposed too when using self tanners. Moisturize your skin EVERYDAY. It will help you keep your fake tan on longer and when it does fade, it helps it fade evenly. You don’t want your tan crusty and flaking off because your skin is dry. As much as it pains me to say this, I am willing to go through the cons to have this color on my skin. This is the most natural looking product that I have ever used on my skin. I normally use St. Tropez, so that’s saying a lot. I just haven’t used their purple based one yet, which will be my next product to try.

Don't be deceived...goes on well and looks great after two applications BUT....smells terrible, has a weird sticky feeling literally until you take a shower and then the tan washes off with it! I do not recommend and would return if I didn't already throw it in the trash! Don't waste your money! COCO and EVE is much better!

One of the better self tanners I've used, but still does not compete with getting a professionally airbrush tan. PROS: - guide color develops quickly and makes it easy to get an even application. The purple undertones will make it look hilariously gray as it develops and is the definition of "trust the process." - resulting tan is natural, not overly dark. I gave myself tan lines (see picture) for contrast. This is after one application and I waited 3 hours to wash it off. - it is definitely less orange than other self tanners, though i still wish it was a little cooler toned. It still pulls kinda warm compared to my natural tan. I have neutral-cool undertones. NEUTRAL: - like other self tanners, you have to exfoliate thoroughly and use a mit, and be extremely careful on feet, ankles, hands, and wrists to avoid streaks. The foam definitely makes it easier to get a smooth application vs cream/lotion/tanning water, but streaks are still very possible. It is much less streaky than when I've used Bondi Sands lotions but more streaky than Tanology Tanning Water. - the guide color stains, so you have to be prepared to basically sit on a towel naked and touch nothing for a few hours. This is no worse than any other fake tan that uses a guide color. CONS: - it does NOT adhere to stretch marks (see picture) and almost looks a little muddy on the textured skin near my stretch marks. That being said, I have not found a single DIY self tanner that does actually stick to the scarred skin. The only tans that cover my stretch marks are $$$ pro airbrushing, so this was expected. But just beware if you want to mask stretch marks this almost makes them more visible and looks kinda weird on the skin around the marks. - the self tanner smell lasts 24+ hours even after the initial shower. Worse than other self tanners. - seems to fade quicker than other tans. My first application really was completely gone in about 5 days, whereas tanology products and pro spray tans tends to last a good 8-10 days for me. Overall, yes, I'm going to use the rest of the bottle and stick it out, but i probably won't buy it again. The color is less orange than Tanology and the application is more even than Bondi Sands, but none of them have really won me over yet. I'll keep hunting for a perfect DIY tan and just keep getting the expensive airbrush for special occasions.

I took my time reading up on all self tanners, as due to having previous melanomas, I'm not able to bask in the sun any longer. Through the years, I have used other self tanning products, many caused streaking, had that horrible self tanner smell, or came out orange in color. I tried many of the top brands that were listed, without a lot of success. Laying in a tanning bed was not a solution as I had done that years before, and again after skin cancer I decided against it. After reading the reviews of so many self tanner and again trying numerous ones I finally decided to try this brand, and out of the several different ones, I bought the "Too Tan To Give A Dam". I also bought a tanning mitt set that comes with a brush that I found on Amazon, as this line does not come with any type of mitt at all. I found a very good article on how to properly apply self tanners. I took a shower, cleaned well, and then used a sugar scrub exfoliation that was mentioned in the article. Unfortunately the line that was listed was extremely drying and the perfumed fragrance of it smelled like chemicals. It's not a line I would ever use again so I would make sure that whatever sugar scrub you use, is a good one, that has a lot of good products in it, and doesn't cause your skin to feel like paper. I then rubbed a good moisturizing cream into my skin, put on a light robe/t-shirt and let it dry for about 20 minutes. Right before I applied the self tanner I, again rubbed light moisturizer around my ankles elbows knees and wrists. I applied the self tanner with the mitt starting at the feet and working upwards. This self tanner comes out a purple/green foam color, but once it's rubbed into the skin with the mitt it appears to go away. The last step I took was to take the meat off, and I used the soft brush that came with the mitt to gently apply the self tanner to the tops of my hands and in between my fingers and toes. I stood in front of a fan let it all dry and then put on a night shirt for the evening. When I woke up in the morning there appeared to be no real change in color to my skin and I got in the shower to rinse everything off and see if the tan had developed more. Sadly it was only a very slight color certainly not what I would call to tan to give a damn. I can say that the self tanner does not have a bad odor at all like many of them, but unfortunately I was expecting a lot more from the reviews and from the title of the product. Overall I'm disappointed. I may try to see if this line has a darker color but it appeared in many of the reviews this was the darkest one. THE PROS- No self-tanner odor. No streaking. If you only want a very light color to your skin and no real tan look, this is for you. THE CONS- The tan you get doesn't match up to the name of the product. This doesn't give you that "deep, dark Hawaiian summer beach tan", and you will also need to buy a mitt if you want to put it on evenly. I would say this only makes you look one shade darker than what you are naturally. All in all, I'm disappointed in the product. I may try to see if there is a darker one in this line, however it appeared this one was the darkest. And if that's the case, it's not dark at all.

Not dark at all. I got the darkest of dark and it barely turned me darker. I tried twice and even left it on for over an hour as suggested for even deeper tan. This is perfect for super pale people but not people looking to deeper their natural color without getting skin cancer from sitting in the sun. Fair skin always wins i guess. I will say i do appreciate the tone it was cool and not warm as most are.

Never leave reviews unless I’m properly wowed. This stuff is amazing I wish I’d found it sooner, leaves you with such a nice glow. Never been able to find good face mists/ tans. 10/10

When it first came out on the mitt I though it was soooo dark! It was almost black! Don't let this scare you. When you wash it off it looks super natural. Great tanning product for those of us that wouldn't use self tan products very often. Make sure to exfoliate off old tan well before reapplying.
