Perfect wedges on every strike (updated with comparison to Fiskars x25)
I am super excited about this hatchet-sized maul. We cut our logs to length with a chainsaw, but then need to split them. This maul does a far better job than an axe or hatchet. Every time I struck an oak log, I got a wood wedge or kindling stick. It's a perfect single-purpose tool. Highly recommended. See the photo. UPDATE: We liked this little guy so much we bought the Fiskars X25 6lb maul for bigger jobs. Now the little guy sits on the porch to split big chunks, while the X25 lives down in the shed where we had two cords of rounds delivered this winter. Now we split rounds with the X25, then cut the larger wedges down to size as necessary once they make it to the woodstove. Very happy with both products.

It is a good compliment to the 8 lb. maul. Makes for good cozy fires for the winter.
Tried it out today on wood I had already split to make small kindling. Where has this been all my life! So much easier!

Best for splitting wood for kindling
I love this little guy! So much better than a hatchet for splitting wood into kindling! I take this on every camping trip and use it every time we make a camp fire. I'll never use a hatchet again for kindling. Easy one swing full split. No getting stuck and smashing the wood on the ground or rock to make it split, so it's much safer. Also, the back is a large head that is great for putting in stakes for a tent.

Awesome little maul
This is a fantastic little maul. With thousands of reviews not sure why I am bothering but...This thing is a splitting machine. Some folks claim "it doesn't even stick in the wood". Well, it's not supposed to. It's a maul. You need to swing this thing like an adult and not a 5 year old child. Such a awesome little axe. Highly recommended.

If you need a hatchet of any kind, this is the one. It doubles as an amazing hammer with great surface area, and of course is a great hatchet for kindling and even some small logs.
