Lay a strand of the lanyard across the slit, and use a toothpick kinda edgeways to push it through. Once you’ve got a little bit of the lanyard through, push enough in with your finger to keep it from falling out. Then use the point of the toothpick to pull up enough of a loop to pass the thick part through.
