How in the world do you set the time on this thing??!!!!!!!!!!!!

As the instructions that come with it say: 1) Press and hold the "TIME" button (which is the center round button top of the clock), and the hour digit will flash. 2) Press the "+ / -" (located at ends of the snooze bar - the long bar on top of clock and in front of round buttons) to set the correct hour. If you're setting the time in the PM, keep pressing the "+" button until the PM indicator lights up (on the upper left hand corner of the clock face). Once you have reached the desired hour then 3) Press the "TIME" button once and the minute digit will flash. 4) Press the "+/-" button to set the correct minute and 5) Press "TIME" button again and voila you're all set. Hope this works for you.

how do you prevent the alarm from activating, ie on the weekend?

You must turn the alarm button to the OFF position.

Does it have a wall wart, or is the transformer inside the unit?

This clock has an internal transformer. It is intended for table top use.
