A cheating husband. A secret second family. One impulsive purchase: a crumbling cottage on a South Carolina island. At forty-three, Julie Pike's twenty-one-year marriage ends with a confession she never saw coming. Her husband has a mistress in Boston and a six-month-old son. The dream home is sold. The life she built is gone. So Julie does the one reckless thing she's never done: she buys a beach cottage sight unseen on Seagrove Island, South Carolina. The cottage has holes in the floor. Her heart has worse. Dawson Lancaster is the local contractor hired to fix the house. He's quiet, capable, and carrying grief of his own. He lost his wife and newborn son years ago, and he's been hiding behind hard work and Southern hospitality ever since. Renovating Julie's cottage is just a job. Until it isn't. But rebuilding gets complicated fast. Julie's estranged sister shows up with secrets. Her overbearing mother isn't far behind. And when her ex-husband lands in a hospital begging for another chance, Julie discovers the man who shattered her life still hasn't stopped lying. She came to Seagrove to fix a house. She's going to have to rebuild her whole life instead. Sweet front-porch chemistry. A Lowcountry island that feels like home. Sisters who fight with paint cans and forgive with tears. A happily ever after that's earned, not handed out. Starting over after betrayal Fixer-upper cottage (and fixer-upper heart) Sight-unseen house purchase Handsome Southern contractor Forced proximity — estranged sisters Found family in a small coastal town Slow-burn, closed-door romance Karma for the cheating ex Meddling Southern mother Heat Level: Just kisses Tone: Emotional & Light Series: Book 1, South Carolina Sunsets Ending: HEA POV: Third Person Clean romance, no explicit content Perfect for fans of Debbie Macomber, Mary Alice Monroe, and small-town Southern fiction with heart. Start the South Carolina Sunsets series today. Review: great read, sweet story - I’m looking forward to the next book to see where this story goes! Love the characters and the coastal setting. Review: Too pricey - A good read but for the price it’s a small book. Will not continue to read because of the price of a paperback with only 200 pages.

Meh.
I chose this new author (to me) based upon reviews and supposedly she was similar to a very favorite, Dorothea Benton Frank. I read this first book with great anticipation as I love a long series for the summer. To say I was disappointed is a truism. The story itself was fine, as were the introduction to the characters. What was missing for ME was the overall lack of specific, daily details that flesh out a story, make a reader dive in and relate well to characters. Whether it was how the cottage looked overall, or the real way a contractor would work, what outfits either Janine or Julie chose for a moment, some history of their relationship with their mom, what they were enjoying (other than ropey-sweet tea or cupcakes), etc. Such detail takes time, as does the accompanying emotional reverie; sketches more intricate. THAT is what I hoped for. Instead, this book does precisely what the author said it did: came to her over a basket of nachos. 12 books. Introductory story from a seemingly introductory writer. When I consider Benton-Frank's freshman attempt "Sullivan's Island" which literally captured me within the first three pages, I have to admit, I wished for far far more. So. Mediocre but mildly interesting. I did read it thru, all the while wishing for Julie to get a backbone.

This was a really good story and very well written! I would recommend.
I loved this book, my only complaint is that it's soooo short! I read it in just a couple of days after work. Some of the story really hits home so that was interesting. I definitely had a mix of emotions reading it. Nothing wrong with that. Well written and I'm super happy to find another author that I like! I would recommend!

Great Read!
This was a wholesome, relaxing read. This book was the kind of read, that you can cozy up in your favorite space, with your favorite beverage and snack; just be in the moment and enjoy. I am about to read the next book in the series. I am curious about the potential romance and family dynamics. I give this book a thumbs up. The characters and settings are well developed, as well as the theme. this book is for those whom enjoy a wholesome story, without bad language, and explicit scenes. I recommend this book for young adults to senior adults.

Really good easy read
Thoroughly enjoyed the first in the South Carolina Sunsets series and can’t wait to start the second. The personalities are easy to understand and I did have empathy with what Julie was going through. Roll on the second book in the series
