SAVED us from skunk hell
one of our dogs got sprayed by a skunk-it was AWFUL and all consuming and the smell was everywhere in our house, even in rooms/upstairs where the dog never entered. it was kind of devastating and very overwhelming. trying to wash/scrub/clean every piece of clothing, every dish, carpets, bedding, mattresses, towels, it was ALL compromised and my very hard work was making a small difference if any at all. I found these, bought 4 for my 2600 sq ft house, set them off and it improved the situation mightily but not totally. you have to remove the source of the smell as well, so as I found more things that smelled strongly, and washed or removed them, the smell improved. I bought six more and set them all off and I can say we are finally skunk free. the comments that say it didnt work (there is always one) I am sure they feel that way, but if you dont get rid of the SOURCE of the smell say. musty old carpeting, etc, these won't help. if you have a lingering smell from something that is no longer there, this is a great product. also, we set these off with people in the house, just not in the same room and it was fine. the comment who says that the product says its ok, but they disagree is just that, a disagreement. this IS non toxic, it smells like chlorine for a bit and then that goes too and the product turns into salt water, nothing more. this issue was all consuming for us for weeks and THIS was what helped us finally turn the corner. I highly recommend.

Stop mildew in its tracks.
I know this is marketed as a deodorizer, but it’s much more. Chlorine dioxide is used in mold remediation as well as things like crime scene cleanup because it’s a very effective oxidizer. So when I had a small gap in my shower surround from replacing hardware, I grabbed what I knew would work. And it did! Usage is as easy as could be. Put the container in the middle of the room and open cupboards and drawers. Open the foil pack and put the small mesh bag in the cup it came in, add one included measure of water, exit and close the door. It will smell like chlorine, so if you can do this while you won’t be home for…a day or so…you will thank yourself. Important to note, this is NOT the chlorine gas that will eat your lungs in seconds. That’s what you get when chlorine is in the second part of the name like sodium hypochlorite (chlorine bleach). In this case, it’s the oxygen that does the heavy lifting. Still, it will smell like a pool for a while. Came back a day later, aired out the bathroom, and the musty smell has not returned. I’m happy enough that when I go away for a week next time, I’m setting several of these in the house, including one on a ladder beneath the return for my heat pump, and giving the whole house a nuke any funky scents face lift. I mean, my house doesn’t stink, but this will make sure there’s no mold or mildew anywhere and will nuke the last of the smoke for from the previous owner of my house.

Did Not Work For Me
I used one container of room shocker in the small one car garage, and one in the kitchen, but I didn't notice a difference in either area. After further review of chlorine dioxide from another company I don't think these containers have enough product to cover the 400 square foot room that is advertised on these containers, from other companies that sell chlorine dioxide their suggested product usage was a larger quantity for a smaller area. Unless of course the product I received was defective, I don't see why it wouldn't have worked. Does not eliminares idols. Does not eliminate odors. The container was nice and durable sturdy, there was no leakage from the cup. The product was yellow when I first activated it with water and then 24 hours later it was white.

Works, but bleaches fabric!
We bought our house two years ago from smokers who smoked all day long for years in our home. We hoped after all their furniture, curtains, and carpeting was removed and we painted, the smell would be eliminated, but two years later we still pull clothes out of our closet that have old musty smoke smell or we’ll come home after a long trip and the smell will return somehow. I used the biocide in two rooms now (the first over a month ago and the second 1 week ago) and so far both rooms have dramatically improved and smell clean. However my biggest complaint with this item is that it doesn’t warn you that it will bleach fabrics it comes in contact with. I put this on our bed in the middle of the room, put it in a bowl on a tray, as the instructions suggest this in case the product spills, not because the vapors will damage fabrics. When I returned to the room 20ish hours later, the bedspread had a bleach stain approximately 1 ft wide on each side of the tray holding the bowl that held the cup of biocide. The instructions need to be edited to warn against this. While I’m pleased with results I’m upset at the damage it caused to an expensive duvet cover despite following the instructions. Be warned this will bleach fabrics it comes in contact with!!

Got rid of a strong cat smell
When nothing else would work to get rid of a strong cat smell in a rental, this actually worked. Not perfect, but a million times better. So relieved!

The usage method needs to be reminded.
I didn't know how to use it. The lid went off. But the effect is indeed very good.

It sure works for older homes, recommended to others since
Two words: It works! We bought this after doing a lot of research when we bought an older cabin to fix up (about 1,000 sf). We had a water and a mold issue (though not bad). After fixing the initial issues we detected we also had an odor issue. The whole place smelled moldy and old. We thought about replacing the remaining walls, insulation etc. Instead we set off 3 room shockers (attic, living and sleeping areas), and repeated after a few weeks. Problem gone since. I'm pretty sure this room shocker won't work for every situation but I'd give it a try before embarking on more drastic measures. We've since used it once after a bad storm had some water leaking into our basement (more as a prevention) and no odor after this either. My tip: don't expect wonders after first use, if it gets way better or almost there - do another round a few weeks later. Our former neighbors, on our recommendation, used it before selling their house (dog smell) and they thanked us for recommending it (though house sold to another dog owner so not sure if it made a difference). PS: After we used it the first time we had a lot of dead bugs and spiders laying around that must have come from the attic or the walls so please remember to take your pets with you when you set one off!!!!

Worked for animal smells
This product worked well for me. I had a spare room where my elderly cat lived, and she sometimes peed on the walls along the perimeter, plus she had a sensitive stomach and frequently threw up on her bed in the room, on the carpet, everywhere. The room had taken on this strong pet smell, not just the urine, but the barf and just stinky animal smell. I pulled up the rug, which was on top of concrete, I cleaned very well with "Kids n Pets" enzyme cleaner, and used Killz low VOC aerosol primer to seal the concrete under the damaged carpet, replaced the pad and carpet, and used the primer on the baseboards and lower 5th of the drywall. Let's say the urine smell was remedied with these steps. But there was still a musty animal odor in the room, not too terrible, but you could immediately tell a sick old animal lived here, and I wanted to use the room as an office where clients would come (I'm an accountant.) I waited until sunset, closed the blinds and sealed the incoming and return register for the central air with cut up garbage bags and masking tape. (The instructions say to turn off central air, but I live in Florida and it's hot, no chance we're doing that.) I used warm tap water, shook up the bag as instructed, and put the container in the middle of the room on a stack of books (that were also stinky.) Within an hour or so the room smelled like a pool, and the smell was seeping under the door, so I wedged a towel under it to seal the room. This worked and I could no longer smell the chlorine in the hallway. I left the shocker to work overnight. In the morning I opened the blinds and the window with a fan running in the room while I kept the door shut to let it air out. After a few hours I opened the registers and the door, and closed the window and let the a/c run, even though it still smelled strongly of chlorine, I could tell the gases had cleared, and it was just a residual odor. By the next day the pool smell was completely gone and opening the door to the room was no longer like being hit with a brick wall of animal smell- in fact, it smelt like NOTHING. No leftover pool smell, no musty odor, no cat barf or pee, really no discernible smell whatsoever. I'm back on amazon to buy some more of these, one for my car which has a yeasty sour smell (i'm guessing spilled beer from the 4th and years of milk spillage from my toddler) and my guest room which is infrequently used and has a stale smell. I think the source of the odor needs to be removed as much as possible- like, I'll need to shampoo the car interior first to clean the milk spills- but for those lingering stinks that work their way into soft or porous surfaces, this is probably an effective solution. I'm very pleased and would recommend this product to friends.

Works a charm!
Set it, forget it, and then air it out!

Don’t waste your money
Bought 6 of these for our 1200sqft (more than enough coverage of each one does 400sqft) house that had been smoked in by the previous owners. We tried a duct clean, ozone treatment, repaint and cleaned everything so we hoped these would work. Set them up before we left for the weekend. A few weeks later the chlorine smell and cigarette smell are both still here. The chlorine also discoloured two cloths we had out and just about killed two of my wife’s plants.
