Great book but…
This actually was a beautifully written book and apparently based on a true story. It is definitely a page turner but the reason I gave it only four stars is that it is guilty of my biggest pet peeve reading a book.I just cringe every time I’m reading something about a garden scene when it is written that somebody is walking through the garden and there are apples and peaches and strawberries and daffodils and roses and and and.… But here’s the thing, apples, peaches, roses, daffodils, etc. etc. are not available at the same time in a garden. They to come to fruit or to bloom at different times and it just drives me nuts when they say somebody was picking apples and daffodils etc. at the same time!

Loved it!
Difficult decisions for a young Australian lady. Way to contemptuous yet at her age understandable. The plot was excellent and held my attention throughout.

A Very Entertaining Story Based on A True Story
It's hard to imagine that the events of this story are based on the real experiences of Grace Woods There is a great deal of what seem to be fictional happenings that occurred in reality it seemed until the end that any of this remotely happened, but the incidents and people did exist. I recommend people, especially people read it and enjoy,

Shallow
The writing is as shallow as the main character. You will never get to know these people from the way this book is written but, really, why would you want to? Apparently, models in Paris are called "mannequins.". How totally appropriate. That should have been the title of the book, considering how much life can be found in any of the characterizations. What a ridiculous premise that she is in Paris to begin with. Andlet's not forget the absurdity of her "uncle" disappearing in the middle of WWII, but she's going to take time off from modeling fabulous Dior dresses to track him down. Right. Just give this one a pass.

This book captured !y attention to the end. However, I was not impressed by Grace's personality. There is not consistency between hoe immature she was privately but hoe wise she was in managing her life with new people, rich people, and a high end fashion job..
I recommend this book to women in transition, house wives, or a a winter time. I would read it again.

Fluff
I wanted to like this book as I have read many nonfiction books about WWII. I thought despite this being a nonfiction book that it would offer a glimpse into life in Paris after the war. Glimpse is the appropriate word. This book contains many plots and subplots (Paris post-war being one of them) and rambles on and on without really developing any of them. While in Paris the main character wants to find someone who is really important to her....but she doesn't make it a priority and then when she finally stumbles upon him (spoiler alert) she walks away. Really? Then she keeps thinking about her mother, missing her, feeling loss etc but decides she will "write her later". Really? Name dropping galore! Just because historical people spent time in Paris at that time does the character have to be friends with all of them? Jackie O? Really? Had to force myself to finish reading this book and would not recommend it!

Different take on historical fiction
I learned a lot about fashion, like French models are called mannequins, and expensive designer dresses are first made of cheap cloth to correct any design flaws as the final materials are so expensive. There were so many plot twists and turns in this story. It was hard to put down ... finished on day two. Brilliantly written. A fast, fun read.
