Arik Air Airbus A340-500 & Boeing 737-800 [Blu-ray]

Inaccurate Description, Weak Video
First, the description is inaccurate. There are multiple aircraft types in this video, the A340-500, 737-700, 737-800, and Q-400. In fact, most of the flights are Q-400, though that aircraft is not listed in the description (the four correct types are printed on the package if you look at the graphic, Amazon just doesn't translate them to the title or description). The A340 variant is unique, designed for airlines that live in high altitude environments that need long range. The technical aspects are interesting, but that's five minutes of the 3:40 video. We also learn that Africa has installed the CPDLC system, which means that the communication system used by airlines to cross the Atlantic and Pacific in the areas without radar coverage is now the method airlines use to fly continental Africa without radar coverage.Otherwise, there is far less information about the aircraft themselves than typical for Just Planes. There is virtually no scenery either, because, as one of the pilots explains, weather conditions in Africa during the time of year this was filmed are clouds and haze, so between a number of night operations and a large number of fog operations, Africa is just as big a mystery at the end as it was at the beginning.Overall, not one of their better efforts. Unless you have a specific interest (you want to see the -500 Airbus, or you want to see passengers at a Nigerian airport where they have jetways that are non-functional, so the aircraft are almost pulled up to them, and the passengers walk down the stairs of the jetway and then up an air stair to board), I would buy other videos. All of the Air Canada Blu-Rays are better if you want HD, and there are at least a couple dozen better DVD's if you don't care about HD.

Not enough A340-500
The DVD was good but I was expecting more on the A340-500. There is only one flight on the Airbus and the other 7 flights are on Dash-8 and 737nwhich are all short and not very detailed. Worth a watch but not as good as the Air Canada DVD's.
