2 questions: (1)if the yellow tab was accidently pulled, would it inflate-or does it only inflate when submerged?; & (2) can the yellow tab be hidden?

Pull the tab and it inflate. It's there as a backup should the auto inflate mechanism fail. It's unlikely to be accidentally pulled. As this is a lifesaving device it would be foolish to hide the tab (although you could and maybe die).

Will this support 270lb man

On average, a human is 80% water and 15% fats, both of which float. That means that only 5% of your weight needs flotation. Thus a 270-pound man needs 13.5 pounds of flotation. This product is rated at 35 pounds so it will far surpass your needs.
