A simple but effective monitor system that's well suited to basic as well as complex environments.
This is a basic but flexible device that provides text message and email alerts for power up/down events without a yearly subscription cost such as with Ting. I have a fairly complex power environment in my house, where most of the electrical circuits are protected by a 20KVA Cummins Onan standby generator, and I have several UPS devices that protect critical appliances during the 10-second delays between utility failures and generator reinstatements. I'm currently using three MySpool devices to monitor this environment, but I'll probably add more in the future. One MySpool device is connected to an unprotected outlet, and it lets me know when a utility failure occurs and how long it lasts before the utility company fixes it. A second device is connected to a generator-protected outlet, it also tells me when utility power fails, but then it also confirms that the standby generator has kicked in and reinstated power afterwards. A third device is connected to a 1500VA UPS that is plugged into a generator-protected outlet, and which I use to ensure constant uninterrupted power to the main kitchen refrigerator. The UPS helps guard the sensitive electronics you find on most modern refrigerators from power outages and surges, and I think it has allowed the last two refrigerators I've owned from having any significant issues in this regard. (The previous refrigerator simply wore out physically, but it continued working electrically until it was replaced.) However, UPSes themselves will eventually die when their batteries expire, and the MySpool device I connected to it should let me catch this situation quickly and let me replug the refrigerator to a backup UPS or directly to an outlet until the UPS is serviced and before food starts to spoil. I could of course do the same thing with three Ting devices, but each Ting device would need a $49/year subscription while your property insurance will likely pay for only one. Ting will give you predictive alarms for potential wiring problems in your house, but in at least one of my cases the things that Ting can see will likely be shielded by the refrigerator UPS. I might eventually install a Ting device in my house, but I see the MySpool devices performing a separate monitoring function that Ting isn't really suited for. I liked how easy it was to set up each MySpool device. You simply plug the device in to an outlet and then connect your smart phone to the SAS-xxxxxxx WiFi SSID that appears in Wi-Fi Settings. You will be automatically directed to a home page on the MySpool device where you select a local home WiFi SSID in your house that provides Internet access and then enter the password. Once this is done and the settings saved, the SSID for the MySpool device disappears and the MySpool device registers as an unclaimed device with the MySpool infrastructure in the cloud. You should write down the SAS-xxxxxxx ID from the first device that you set up, because you'll have to manually enter it into the MySpool account that you create in the cloud so that it knows which unclaimed MySpool device that it's heard from needs to be associated with your account. Once it attaches the MySpool device to your account, you can set it up to send emails to up to two email addresses, and text messages to up to two mobile phones when the device senses a loss of power and when power is reinstated. You can customize the messages as necessary so the events make sense to you. Once the first MySpool device is manually entered in this way, every future MySpool device that you power up and configure with the same WiFi SSID and password is automatically associated with the same MySpool account in the cloud, so you then just have to configure target email addresses and mobile phone numbers for them and the specific messages that will be sent. You'll get a preliminary email on each of the email addresses that you configure, from which you have to click on a link to "subscribe" to future power up/down event messages from each of the MySpool devices. You test each device just by unplugging it and plugging it back in again, and checking to make sure that you received the appropriate emails and text messages. I've only had my MySpool devices installed for about a week, but so far I really like them. The only thing I don't like is that text messages are rate-limited to allow only one message from each device every 5 minutes. This is fine for most of my devices, but for the device that's directly plugged into the generator-protected outlet I'll get a utility-failure message immediately, but I won't get confirmation that the generator has kicked in until 5 minutes later, even though the generator will typically restore power in about 10 seconds. When I'm away from my house that could be a harrowing 5 minutes to wait before I know that the generator has started. However, my Cummins-Onan generator has been extremely reliable since it was first installed 15 years ago, so I'm always pretty sure that there won't be any problems. Also I don't think the 5-minute rate-limit is always accurate, one time I only had to wait about 2 minutes for the second message to appear. In summary, I highly recommend this device.

Peace Of Mind
I do not have an automatic backup power system and we wanted a device that would alert us in the event we lost power to our freezer. The MySpool power failure detector is exactly what we wanted. It works great, the setup took me roughly 20 minutes from cell my phone without the need for a laptop. The unit is able to send an email notification to one email address and text notification to two cellular numbers. I did email My Spool with a question regarding text notification to two cellular numbers and they promptly responded with an answer. During the setup, to receive text notification you will be ask to enter the mobile number or numbers. If wanting to send text notification to two numbers enter a comma after the first phone number. Example: 15121234567,18021234567

Good product
This little thing works better than I expected for this price. It hasn’t missed an outage, and it was a lot easier to setup than I expected.

You need to make sure that you have a wifi router that will allow them to connect.
It seems to work well, but you have to make sure you have a 2.4 GHz wifi band on your current router or a separate 2.4 GHz router. Second, the setup instructions are not very clear and the auto setup option did not work for me and I had to set them up manually, which was easy and quick, but I had to experiment to find that solution. They seem to work very well now that they are set up.

Emails and Texts me when there is a power failure / restore
Does everything I wanted. Emails and texts when I have a power outage using a heart-beat type approach on their servers without a sub. I made a long custom Notification / Ringtone for me and my other so we don't miss a power outage.

Easy to setup and use!
This was by far the best solution for our power monitoring needs. Coupled with our office cellular hotspot - I always know when the power goes out and comes back on. Saves time and money on unnecessary travel for false alarms or unknown power status.

I tried everything at first and gave up as it would not connect to my wifi even though I followed every step (I'm technically sound). Just before I decided to return, I tried the "Wifi (No Scan)" connection option where you have to manually enter the SSID of your Wifi network. Surprisingly that worked immediately even though the normal method where it scans and detects the Wifi was picking the same connection. Any way, it connected immediately, works amazingly and sends alerts when the device loses AC power or when it turns back on. Beautiful. Now I can monitor my Aquarium when not nearby. SMS does not work for outside of US however email works just fine.
