Product Description Get ready for the out-of-control bachelor party thatยs absolutely hilarious from beginning to end. There is a difference between getting older and growing up! desertcart.com It's inevitable that The Groomsmen would invite comparisons to Wedding Crashers, but it's actually closer in spirit to Diner. Or Fellini's semi-autobiographical I Vitelloni, which writer/director Edward Burns has claimed as an influence. Sure, the film has its comedic moments, but it isn't a comedy. Sure, Burns and his on-screen pals can be louts, but that's where the similarities to the Owen Wilson/Vince Vaughn vehicle end. There's only one wedding in the picture and Paulie (Burns) doesn't need to crash it--he's the one getting married. His fiancรฉe, Sue (Brittany Murphy, who worked with Burns on Sidewalks of New York), is pregnant, so the time has come. Paulie, a Long Island reporter, isn't sure he's ready for the responsibility of marriage and fatherhood. His best buddies, Dez (Mathew Lillard), T.C. (John Leguizamo), cousin Mike (Jay Mohr), and brother Jimbo (Donal Logue), aren't exactly helping to prepare him for the big day. That's because they've got problems of their own and because they're more concerned about getting the band together one last time (a humorous, if overly familiar plot device). Since 1995 breakout hit The Brothers McMullen, originality hasn't been Burns's strong suit and The Groomsmen is no exception, although the believable camaraderie between characters serves to distract from the clichรฉs. --Kathleen C. Fennessy Review: Coming of Age - Edward Burns has filmed a great hit with "The Groomsmen". The casting was fantastic, and the story line felt personal. The film is as much about his friends as it is himself and that draws you in and you make an emotional tie with just about all of the characters. If you haven't seen this movie, you should! **Matthew Lillard - my hats off to you and you awesome job acting in this role. Review: I love tuxedos - I wanted to purchase this movie because I love the groom & his groomsmen best because they wear tuxedos/ suits & I love tuxedos/ suits the best. I even wanna wear a different one each wedding I attend.

Terrible DVD Cover, swell movie
I Just reviewed LOOKING FOR KITTY, Ed Burns' other neglected 2006 release. This is the finer film (That one is OK, too), a very plausible slice-of-life looking at a group of mid-thirties guys looking at their lives when one, Burns, is getting married (to Brittany Murphy, who has prominence on the cover, and is important, but secondary to the male leads). It's well-tread territory, but Burns has an excellent supporting cast (John Leguiziamo, Jay Mohr, Donnell Logue and Matthew Lillard, who gives his best performance to date) and doesn't force things; there are several well-played scenes where the actors get to do their thing. The state of theatrical film release in 06 is such that this crowd-pleaser barely got out of New York and L.A., which is a shame; in a summer of overheated overpriced Hollywood flicks it was a nice change of pace. Of course, the dvd box has that "REAL GENIUS/ MODERN LOVE what where they thinking?" photoshop quality -- Burns is never seen wearing that ridiculous shirt at any time in the movie (it looks like its 1985 and he's going to the Flock of Seagulls concert or something), nor does he ever carry her on his shoulders like that. The theatrical poster showed the five guys in a bar having a drink, and that should've stayed the cover, as it didn't mislead the viewer. The film is a comedy, but it's not a WEDDING CRASHERS comedy, definitely more of a meeting of BIG CHILL or RETURN OF THE SECAUCUS SEVEN with THE BREAKFAST CLUB. Take a look.

Getting Back on Track
Burns' writing really bottomed out with "Ash Wednesday" and to an extent he had really been declining since "She's the One". One of the chief frustrations in watching his films is the casting implausibilities and unrealistic situations he puts his characters through. This film thankfully did not have those problems and it really was entertaining to watch through. Minor points but they somewhat bothered me............#1 if the characters are all 33-35 and Jay Mohr has a 2006 inspection sticker in his window, these characters were between ages 6-8 when Loverboy's "Turn me Loose", Eddie Money's "Shakin'" and Marshall Crenshaw's "Someday, Someway" were playing on the radio, which means 1980-1982. I didn't get the connection as to why this particular music meant anything to these characters who were 6-8 at the time. #2..........if you tell me in the script that the Brittany Murphy character is pregnant and this is the reason for the impending wedding, does she need to hold her stomach in every single ensuing scene to reminds us she is pregnant? Watch for this and it will drive you crazy as you watch her scenes. I just didn't understand the need for her to be holding her belly in every single scene she was in this movie. We get it, she's pregnant. But again, I think Edward Burns refound his way here and this was an enjoyable movie to watch. The characters were likeable and the viewer was interested in them and seeing them solve their problems.

For Brittany Murphy fans this is an overlooked film which teams her up with Edward Burns again (Sidewalks of New York). It also reunites her with Jay Mohr (Cherry Falls) and Mathew Lillard (Summer Catch). A decent film unfairly passed over on its original release. The talented Brittany Murphy had quite a few good films either fly under the radar or simply be unreleased in the UK. Neverwas and Love and Other Disasters being two quality films unavailable on a UK DVD/BluRay. The DVD is very bare bones. No extras not even a trailer and while there are chapters theres no menu to access them. No sound or subtitle options either. A shame but still worth watching for the film alone.

I'm a fan of Ed's work as a Director & Writer ( although i haven't seen them all) and this stands as a firm favourite of mine. The usual concerns are addressed : family , friends, identity , sense of place and relationships , always strong theme's in Ed's work which is why i like him. He does stuff that is pretty universal but you can tell it's really close to his heart , he has strong love for the people and place that he sprung from and that really shines through in his best work and i'd include The Groomsmen in that category. Strong performances by the main cast here , i laughed a lot and really felt that the personalities shone through , he nails certain characteristics that i totally recognise from people and buddies that I grew up with which helped me enjoy this one more than i probably should have. A step above the usual generic bromance/comedy stuff you get dealt with , i feel Ed hit the nail on the head with this gem , a film he can feel rightly proud of. I just wish more of his films were available on region 2 DVD. Oh well , back to my well worn copies of Bros McMullan , Shes The one and Sidewalks then............... Top effort here , 4 and a half stars.
