Great knife for the price!
Very good budget fixed blade. Nice medium sized blade that can do most camp tasks and be easily carried. Steel is adequate for the price and easily resharpened. It came very sharp and ready to use. It isn't the best slicer, but is extremely tough and capable. It's also small and lightweight enough to be carried everyday and be used as effective self defense blade. The sheath is good enough with excellent retention and has many lashing points that make it able to accept many mounting options (I like to scout carry mine using a tek lok) Overall the knife can perform many rolls from camp knife to survival knife to self defense knife. It's not perfect at any of these, but is very capable at doing them all. Great bang for the buck and if you can catch it on sale (under $30) don't even think about it, just buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Well made and includes a very customizable sheath, excellent for survival kits
Perfect size as a companion knife for bushcraft, camp chores or as a survival tool. Has plenty of strength and is certainly sharp out of the box. Comes well oiled for storage and transport. Grip is very tacky, love the positive grip when hands get sweaty. Would recommend this as a ideal survival and self defense knife. Unbelievable value, got mine on sale for under $30, bargain! Love Cold Steel products, makes me want the larger full sized SRK !!!! Super value priced product using awesome Japanese tool steel (SK-5). This feels like a serious military survival tool, will advise everyone to try it out and see what the fuss is all about. It's good, real good!!!! Design is perfected and balance in hand is excellent. It's a 5 star blade!!!! Very satisfied.

New Favorite Overkill Pocket Companion.
Having stumbled upon the Cold Steel SRK Compact knife and thought, "You know what my life is missing? A fixed-blade knife that looks like it could survive being run over by a tank." My impulse control took a short vacation, and suddenly, it was on its way. When this bad boy arrived, I was immediately impressed. It's compact, sure, but it feels incredibly solid. The SK-5 steel blade with the black Tuff-Ex finish looks menacing in the best possible way. The Kray-Ex handle provides a grip that feels like it would stick to your hand even if you were covered in butter and running from a bear. It just feels capable. Now, my daily life doesn't typically involve survival scenarios (unless you count navigating rush hour traffic). But I've found surprisingly many uses for this little beast. Opening those ridiculously over-packaged items that Amazon sometimes sends? This knife laughs at them. Cutting through thick rope or stubborn zip ties? Effortless. It's become my go-to tool for anything that requires more than a gentle slice. It's like having a miniature, highly effective lumberjack in my pocket (or, more realistically, on my belt in the Secure-Ex sheath). The sheath itself is worth mentioning. It holds the knife securely with a satisfying click, so I don't worry about it falling out while I'm, you know, aggressively opening a bag of chips. It's well-designed and feels just as durable as the knife. Is this knife overkill for most of my daily tasks? Absolutely. Do I care? Not one bit. There's a certain confidence that comes with knowing you have a tool this robust at your disposal. It's sharp, it's tough, and it feels like it could handle anything I throw at it (or, more likely, anything I need to cut with it). If you appreciate a well-made, incredibly sturdy fixed-blade knife that's surprisingly compact and makes you feel just a little bit more ready for anything, this is a fantastic choice. It's a seriously good knife that punches well above its weight (and size). I'm thoroughly happy with this purchase.

Would buy again!
Stinking sharp right out of the box! Be careful! I learned that the hard way. I needed a good sturdy work knife, and one where the sheath would hang down and move out of the way if I got in a truck. This one fit the bill. Both the knife and the sheath seem very sturdy and good quality for the price. I have worn it most days for the past year, and I'm still happy with it. And it's still decently sharp Even though I haven't sharpened it. Cold steel is quickly becoming my favorite value for the money brand. I would absolutely buy this again!

Cold Steel makes quality, inexpensive knives and the SRK SK5 is no exception!
I’ve owned several Cold Steel knives and in my experience, they consistently put out well-made products. I stumbled on Cold Steel by watching knife review videos and ended up purchasing the smaller SRK-C knives as gifts for my sons. This SRK-SK5 model lives up to the brand’s reputation and considering the ridiculous amount folks are asked to pay for brands like Benchmade or Montana Knife Company, having an quality, affordable option where form follows function is important and Cold Steel does this for me. The Kray-Ex handle is very comfortable in hand, and the textured surface provides a secure grip. The blade is thick and came sharp right out of the box, with an even, clean grind. For me, the 6-inch blade length is a great balance of usability and control. I also appreciate the brass lanyard hole in the handle. The Kydex sheath is also well made and holds the knife securely. There are no flashy extras here, just a sturdy, straightforward knife that feels durable and dependable. Overall, this is an excellent choice for someone looking for a solid fixed-blade knife with good fit, finish, and handling.

Pretty Good for a Cheap Knife
After reading several reviews here, you'd think that this was the best knife ever made. It isn't. But if you take it for what it is, a cheap but sturdy knife, then yes it's a solid purchase. It is cheaply made, with a somewhat flimsy feeling handle. It does not have a full tang and, as such, lacks the solid feel in your palm that a full tang knife would have. However, for $32 (the price I paid), you can't go wrong. If it breaks, throw it away and buy another one. It came sharp out of the box, and well oiled. I have other knives that are far superior to this knife, but I also paid several times more for them. Is this a knife I'll hand down to my kids one day? Never. But it is a good, cheap tool that I'd recommend to someone, given the price. Just set your expectations appropriately, and you won't be disappointed.

Could not be happier with purchase
I could not be happier with this purchase. I have the SRK, and this compact version is of the same quality, and yet smaller. The handle is smaller, but fits my hand perfect. It is difficult to describe, but when I hold this knife next to the full size SRK, it isn't that much smaller. However, when placed in the sheath, and attached to a belt, it is much better for everyday carry. I have collected all kinds of knives, for most of my life, and this knife has become my favorite. I liked it so much, that I purchased it multiple times, in order to have a spare, and for gifts. It has taken a very long time, to find a product such as this, that I feel I have always been looking for. The quality of the steel, as well as the handle, and the sheath, make this knife optimal for every purpose that I need. The workmanship is apparent, and it arrived sharp, and ready for any task. I think that most people who obtain one of these, won't be disappointed. Every Cold Steel product that I have ever purchased, has been excellent, and this knife is no different. In addition, I would point out that the grind on this blade is a saber grind, and the full size SRK is a hollow grind. I like both, but prefer the saber grind. This knife looks very much like the old Cold Steel SRK Carbon V version, just miniaturized. Very similar design.

Exactly What I Was Looking For
I wanted a utility knife to mount to my LBV. I wear my knife upside down on the weak side. The knife needs to be strong, but not so large as to hog too much space on the vest. My current knife is an original Gerber Mk I in a custom kydex sheath, connected to the vest with a Malice Clip. The Gerber is a fighting knife, and is too rare and expensive to be using day to day. The SRK C is just about the same size, is sturdier, and useful for more tasks. The Secure-Ex sheath is meh. It has a rep for dulling the blade,, though I haven't tested this, and won't. It does not have the retention strength required for wearing the knife upside down. I will make my own kydex sheath and mount it with a Malice clip. The knife came sharp, but not razor sharp, which is just how I like it. Too sharp, and it dulls quickly with work. Too dull and you fight the knife in bushcrafty tasks. I wanted a knife that I don't need to coddle, and that's what I believe I got. Out of the box, it slices paper cleanly, and the SK-5 steel has a rep for being quite tough, though I haven't tested it in the field. The handle is very grippy, and I couldn't ask for more.. My only real complaint is the sheath, but I have yet to find a production sheath that I was happy with, so I didn't expect perfection. This is a survival/bushcraft/utility knife like it's cousins, the full sized SRKs. I have a couple of those, and have been very happy with them. Out of the box, the knife seems great, and the price is REALLY reasonable. I think I hit the jackpot with this one.

Excellent knife. Would highly
If you’ve been searching for a tough, compact fixed-blade that punches way above its size—ready for everyday carry, camping, survival, or just hard daily use—the Cold Steel SRK Compact is an absolute home run. This little beast delivers everything you love about the legendary full-size SRK in a perfectly pocket-friendly package, and it’s quickly become the knife I reach for first, every single time. At just 9.5” overall with a 5” blade and 4mm-thick SK-5 high-carbon steel, it feels incredibly solid in hand without ever being bulky. The black Tuff-Ex™ finish isn’t just for looks—it resists rust, hides scratches like a champ, and gives the blade a stealthy, non-reflective vibe that’s perfect for outdoor or tactical use. I’ve used it for everything from slicing apples to batoning kindling, prying open crates, and even light food prep at camp—zero chipping, zero roll, and it still shaves hair after weeks of hard work. Touch-up sharpening is a breeze; SK-5 takes a razor edge in seconds. The Kray-Ex™ handle is pure genius. It’s aggressively textured but never abrasive, locks into your grip even when wet, muddy, or wearing gloves, and the slight swell plus finger choil give you total control for precise cuts or heavy chopping. At only 4.5” long, it disappears in your hand yet feels completely secure—no hot spots, even after hours of use. The pronounced guard and pommel keep your fingers safe and add a little extra utility for light hammering or self-defense if you ever need it. The included Secure-Ex™ sheath is rock-solid: deep pocket carry, multiple mounting options (belt, MOLLE, neck cord, or boot), and a positive click retention that won’t let the knife fall out, yet draws buttery smooth when you need it. Drain hole keeps water from pooling, and it’s so light you forget it’s on your belt. Real-world testing? It flew through a weekend camping trip—processed firewood, built shelters, prepped meals—and came home looking barely used. Throw it in a backpack, glove box, or clip it to your pack strap; at under 6 ounces, you’ll never notice the weight but you’ll be glad it’s there. Cold Steel nailed the balance: big-knife performance in a small-knife size, priced so you won’t cry if you bang it up. Whether you’re a first-time fixed-blade owner, a seasoned bushcrafter, or just want one do-it-all knife that never lets you down, the SRK Compact is it. Tougher than it has any right to be, crazy versatile, and built to last a lifetime. 11/10—hands down my favorite everyday blade. Grab one; you’ll wonder how you lived without it. 🪓✨

Likable knife
Collected many a knives over my years and never had a Cold Steel knife before. Robust simple design and a fantastic everyday knife you're not afraid to use. It comes shaving sharp and feels great in hand. Balanced and comfortable. The sheath is well designed and holds the knife well as it's supposed to. You could make your own if the synthetic sheath bothers you. I bought it on sale for $35. Cdn. Amazing value. I can safely say this one will go down as a favorite. Regrets are wished I bought more after I held it.
