Is the valve needed?

The Moen Genta Eco-Performance Tub/Shower Trim without Valve was designed/manufactured to be installed on a Moen Posi-Temp rough-in valve, models 2510, 2520, 2570, 2580 and 2590.  The Posi-Temp valve has a handle that only rotates to turn on the water.
