Grammy winning producer T Bone Burnett will be presenting and releasing Universal Republic singing duo The Secret Sisters - and their highly anticipated, self-titled debut album- on a brand new Universal Republic label created by Burnett especially for this release: Beladroit Records. The Alabama-reared siblings, Laura and Lydia Rogers, whose new album is steeped in the familial camaraderie and mesmerizing harmonies braced by their Mussel Shoals roots, recorded their inaugural musical effort at Nashville's renowned Blackbird Studio. Produced by revered country knob-turner Dave Cobb (Waylon Jennings and Jamey Johnson), and executive-produced by Burnett, The Secret Sisters' sound captured on their debut has been described by Burnett as "as close to `pure' as it gets, and I've been doing this for forty years." The multiple-Grammy winner's enthusiasm for The Secret Sisters attests to their burgeoning stature as one of the year's rare musical finds: "In The Secret Sisters, you can hear the history of rural American music from the 1920s and a reverence for every musical genre since," stated T Bone Burnett. "Popular music requires the absolute honesty of The Secret Sisters, and I'm thrilled to be involved in presenting them to the world." Scheduled to hit stores and online platforms this fall, The Secret Sisters was recorded in a marathon two-week recording time frame. The producers also brought in vintage analogue recording equipment and vintage microphones, determined to properly capture The Secret Sisters' magical harmonizing and stunning vocal power. The duo's signature sound is evident on songs such as "Why Don't Ya Love Me," Why Baby Why," and the lilting anthem "Tennessee Me," among others. Hailing direct from the fertile musical territory of Mussel Shoals, AL, The Secret Sisters co-wrote several of the songs on the new album. The girls' also re-worked found treasures, including the Frank Sinatra classic "Something Stupid," as well as enlisting the support of legendary country musicians such as pedal steel great Robbie Turner and piano legend Pig Robbins, among others. Review: The secret is out - There's a gorgeous haze hovering above some of these old-timey songs that conjures feelings of summer -- a hot, lazy July on a porch in Tennessee, lemonade in hand. Possessing honeyed voices that are pure gold and lovelorn lyrics which aren't the least bit contrived, the Secret Sisters are as refreshing as a cool breeze blowing though the scorching countryside. When singing about the mysteries of love, these ladies are sweet, catchy and disarming to the bone. The duo's uncategorized sound keeps things lively. Undoubtedly, the Sisters would sound right at home playing for peanuts in church or in the rowdier confines of a dingy honky-tonk bar. Concise and to-the-point ditties like "Why Baby Why," "My Heart Skips a Beat," "I've Got a Feeling," "All About You" and "Why Don't You Love Me" are musically upbeat but often contain skeptical lyrics. Like all of us, the Sisters have been burned romantically from time to time. But their honest and clever lyrics (my favorite line comes from "Why Baby Why": "Well, I got a crow I wanna pick with you."), effortless manner and genuine country soul make the Secret Sisters a fun and irresistible group that is worth paying attention to. Review: Greata music - Secret Sisters has beautiful harmonious blends of music, old and new. Kind of folksy and kind of country but with a modern twist. Love their sound.

Some soothing harmonies, some 50s, some honkey tonk
I'll preface by saying I rarely have/take much time to review, but I applaud the talent of these young girls... I bought this as a gift for my cousin who is a new mom - she likes older country (like Patsy Cline) and singer-songwriter folky country (like Emmylou Harris). I thought she'd appreciate the sweet, angelic harmonies that these real-life sisters are so good at. The more sweet, soothing songs like "Tennessee Me", "Do You Love An Apple", "House of Gold" are the kind I could see my cousin singing to her sweet new little one. "Waste the Day", "Something Stupid", "The One I Love Is Gone", "I've Got a Feeling" are easy throwbacks to the 50s/60s and spread across the genres from teeny bopper pop of that era to the more mature country tunes of Patsy and the like. "Why Baby Why", "All About You" and "Why Don't You Love Me" have a more classic honkey tonk sound. "My Heart Skips a Beat" is a mix of it all, very sweet, upbeat melody. This is a great first album, even has a touch of gospel sound, and these girls have already gone on to play with Ray LaMontagne and other more revered artists of today. If you're into this music, it's a great purchase.

Not a Secret Any Longer!
My wife chanced to see them perform in a very small and intimate venue in Huntingdon Tennessee, on a recent trip. She recognized their name from the track "Tomorrow Will be Kinder" from the Hunger Games sound track, which has put them on a more national map. She stated they have a wonderful sense of humor, enjoy performing their music, and enjoy communicating with their audience. This first album has mostly covers of Country style songs, most recognizable even to somebody like me not well versed in the genre, and nicely and melodically done. They wrote two originals on the album, one of which is "Tennessee Me", a big hit you know where. They had no idea it would be so popular. They informed the audience that they are working diligently on writing their own songs to complete a new album. We cannot wait for it, checking the web constantly for news. With their enthusiasm, it cannot help but be a good stepping stone to generating their own sound and style, with lots of personality.

Great harmony and talent!
I saw The Secret Sisters open for Brandi Carlile and Ray LaMontagne last night in Waterbury, CT and they were amazing! What talent! It was a nice surprise and a wonderful added treat to start off an evening of wonderful music. This CD is terrific and you will not be disappointed. With all the pop on country radio these days, it was refreshing for me to see young talent that is true country! And before you can say I am old, I just turned 33 yesterday. I would rather hear these ladies over Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood any day of the week. Lots of luck to Laura and Lydia in the future...it will be a bright one. Make sure you buy this CD!

Great talent, poor production
Their harmony and voices are terrific. Unfortunately, this is a very poorly produced album that does not do justice to their talent

A Very Promising Start!
It's only 45 minutes of country music and there's also a few lows - some songs just needed more music from the musicians, and I'm pretty sure they could deliver that if asked for; use two microphones instead of just one next time for their vocals, just listen to their live performance on kcrw-morning becomes eclectic and you'll understand what I'm talking about. But the highs of this record are, really, of a very high standard, music beautifully performed, with soul, passion and originality. Buy one and find it for yourself, they can actually reach you with their voices/music like only a much selected bunch of artists ever did! It's deliberately supposed to sound like a vintage recording but I guess they somehow managed to deliver some magic moments that can potentially put this album in the classics shelf.

Pure vocals that take you back!
What a find!! I checked out a few of The Secret Sisters music downloads, and before I knew it I was downloading the MP3 album. It was a bargain at $5.99. Best $5.99 I've ever spent on music. Just down right proud to add this gem to my IPod. Rest assured I'll be watching for more albums from this dynamic duo. Their voices are pure delight, and their style takes you back to the older style country, which is my favorite along with the 50's/60's music. If you haven't checked out the music download of Honey, Honey, please do. I remember Abba doing this song. These girls do it justice, which goes to show me that they have a god given talent. I added that music download to my collection as well. Hope to see more from this duo. They are like a breath of fresh air!

I first heard the Secret Sisters on Radio 2 when they sang live in the studio and loved their voices so I ordered the CD and I have not been disappointed at all. It is a lovely CD, very catchy and foot tapping and I find myself singing or humming the songs all day as they keep going round in my head. The sisters voices are very clear and natural and I would recommend this CD to anyone who likes listening to proper music without all the electronics of today's plastic music.
