the best
I have been a Runrig fan for years and before Amazon it was near impossible to buy their music. On a trip to Australia my son brought me back my first Runrig cd and I have loved their music ever since. I recently purchased Proterra and can not get enough of it. I loaded to my iPod and on a trip to Southwest Florida I so enjoyed listening as I walked the Gulf beach. Wow! It has not left my car cd player and think this is, by far, one of their best. I have no Scottish blood (some English though) but for some reason this music speaks to my soul. A wonderful purchase for anyone who loves folk-rock, Celtic or world music.

Brilliant stuff from the boys from Skye.
I never got into the 'Who's best, Donnie or Bruce?' argument. It really doesn't matter. This is a brilliant album in every way. From the inspiring refrain of the title track (Over land and sea, I'll come fighting for you) to the haunting and powerful "From The North" this album never lets you down. Bruce Guthro sings straight from the soul and pours his heart into the songs. The musicianship and production are both great. I cannot recommend this highly enough, it is one of Runrigs best. Do yourself a great service, lower the lights, crank up the volume and sink into the music. Bliss!

More than good music
I have been listening to and enjoying Stamping Ground for over a year. I liked it so much I bought this album without the expectation that it would be as good. But to my surprise - it is every bit as good. Both have a great mix of music styles. But there is more than just good music on this CD. The lyrics are thought provoking and of a mystical nature. Very edifying!

A true gem
From the beautiful Failas Air An Airigh to the haunting From the North through the lovely instrumental pieces and the surprise of the lovely All the Miles to the pure Runrig anthems of Proterra and Empty Glens this is a wonderful album - will either lift you up or center you - depending on what you need at the moment.

Proterra cd - Runrig
I have been a big Runrig fan for years. This isn't their best album, but it is a very good effort. I like some of their older work better. I hope they just keep on and on!

Slightly unusual but well worth getting to know.
Runrig with Bruce Guthro can do no wrong for me. Found this a little odd at first listen but that soon passed and I love it now. The title track is a gem, as are The Old Boys and Empty Glens. There isn't a bad track on it though. If you like Runrig in the Guthro era, you'll like this.

From the old to the new
After the phenomenal sound of their Stamping Ground album only just having sunk in, Runrig are back, and how do you follow an album like that? well with one like this - Proterra! To give the album it's full title 'Runrig with Paul Mounsey' hints that things may be a little different, Paul Mounsey contributed to the arrangement on the stamping ground's 'Running to the Light' and certainly brings a greater depth, if a more studio produced sound to this CD, the album also tends to move slightly more towards the rock side of folk/rock, although there are some lovely slower numbers to keep the balance, 'The Old Boys' a reworking of an early Runrig song, starts of quietly and slowly builds, and 'Gabriel's Sword' (written by Bruce Guthro) really shows how gentle as well as powerful Bruce's voice can be.Unlike the previous two albums there isn't really a main stand out track such as 'May Morning' or 'Book of Golden Stories' but I think this is because they are all unique enough to stand out on their own - although I do think the upbeat 'Prottera' & 'Empty Glens' would make great singles, and bring the group more into the limelight.Apart from the collaboration with Paul Mounsey there is another change to the line up, we say farewell to Peter Wishhart on keyboards and welcome the fresh young talent of Brian Hurren, who as well as being a great keyboard player, just wait until you hear his vocals on 'There's a Need' (If Bruce hadn't been found I think we could have been looking at the new lead singer here!) I really hope in the future we get to hear a lot more of this stunning voice! The only track that took me a little while to appreciate was 'From The North' which I felt it was a little too heavy, but this is one that steadily grows on you and and has a kind of film like quality to it, you can almost imagine an ancient battle in a mist filled glen! The album also contains 3 great Gaelic tracks, which even if you don't speak Gaelic you'll be singing along to! As well as two instrumentals 'Heading to Arcadia' a tune slightly reminiscent of the stamping grounds 'The Engine Room' and 'Angels From The Ashes', (written by previous founding member Blair Douglas) a quiet piano based piece, reflecting on the events of September 11th, that brings you gently down at the end of the album. In summary - a great album to celebrate 30 glorious years of Runrig, which is certainly a little different from usual but still firmly held in Runrig's roots, as fresh & varied as ever, and with a band with such great talent, from the writing skills of Roy & Calum and now Bruce, as well as 3 great vocalists and a vast array of instruments and percussion,(Malcolm Jones even adds the dulcimer & jaws harp to his already vast repertoire of pipes, accordion and guitars!) - lets just hope that runrig finally get the recognition they truly deserve!

Something for everyone
I looked at buying Proterra a few months ago and have to admit was put off by some of the reviews. I finally decided to ignore the critics and take the plunge. I am so glad I did.Proterra offers everything from the haunting celtic sound of pipes to the toe tapping drumbeat of Toll Dubh and Reitach. From the raw Gaelic tracks the modern rock sound that is Runrig. With regular vocals from Bruce, Rory and Brian this album offers something for everyone. Even "Angels of the Ashes" a piano solo is inspired. If you are still not convinced then listen to some of these tracks played live at Drumnadrochit (Year of the Flood) then come back to it. This is now permanently in my cd player alongside Everything You See and, frankly, I can't get enough of them!

Absolutely brilliant
It took me 2 or 3 listens but this is now one of favourite albums and one of Runrig's best. One of its appeals is it is so different to the usual Runrig style. This can be a bit of a shock at first especially when reworking old favourites like An Toll Dubh and The Old Boys, but it works. In Gabriels Sword they have created a fantastic song that on its own makes this CD worth buying. I can't believe I waited 10 years to buy this. Go get it.

Congratulations, Runrig - you've come up with another great album!
The brilliant 12th Studio Album from Runrig produced in 2003 - with just a couple of the songs excellently rearranged by Paul Mounsey from an earlier album. This is a return to Runrig's 'rockier sound' after their last album.Excellent copy of the album - no scratches - complete with original inlay booklet - jewel case in great condition.
