The Brick Bible: The New Testament: A New Spin on the Story of Jesus Review: Love this Bible - This is a great bible for boys because of the legos. My son is in full blown lego mania love. SO he is naturally excited to read his lego bible. Anything that gets my kids in the Word makes me happy. This Bible does not skirt around the issues found in scripture so sometimes the lego people are naked and sometimes there is blood. The devil and hell is also depicted. While it is a little disturbing, it has sparked some wonderful conversations with my son. Review: Great depictions of what's in the bible! - Brendan does a wonderful job bringing the bible to life with minifigs in this wonderful book. It actually makes reading the bible palatable. If you enjoyed this book, I would strongly urge you to check out his website. While this book is fantastic, many of his scenes where dropped due to the publisher wanting to sanitize the bible for some audiences.

CHRISTIAN PARENTS--STAY AWAY FROM THIS INACCURATE DEPICTION OF THE BIBLE
If you're a Christian parent looking for a good, solid illustrated Bible for your child, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!!!! I bought this set not knowing the background of the author, a self-avowed atheist. At first, my kids and I were very excited about it, but as I read through the pages I could see that Brendan Powell Smith's Lego-illustrated interpretations of the text were way off. For instance, the first red flag went up when I saw Smith's interpretation of Genesis 1:27 ("So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."), which he illustrated by having a bunch of men and women standing naked in the land He just created rather than just two--Adam and Eve. That alone told me that Smith is patently unqualified for Bible interpretation. But reviewing many other illustrations (such as Jesus appearing in a women's evening gown with pearls around His neck to illustrate the Roman soldiers dressing Him in an "elegant robe" or the apostles pulling a rabbit out of a hat to illustrate their performing many miracles among the people) confirmed that Smith has a very mocking, skewed way of interpreting the text. Also, in thumbing through the books I noticed that Smith seems to have gone out of his way to illustrate the most "juicy" parts to make the God of the Bible seem to be a violent, merciless God rather than a God that is both just and merciful. An example--the Revelation portion of the Brick Bible New Testament ends with Jesus making this pronouncement in the context of a negative judgment: "Behold! I am coming soon to repay everyone according to what their actions deserve!" That statement is taken out of context from Revelation 22:12 to make it sound wholly negative. The surrounding passages talk of both negatives (for unbelievers) and positives (for believers). In fact, Revelation 22:19 is an extremely positive invitation to all but is completely missing from the Brick Bible's Revelation: "The Spirit and the bride say, 'Come!' And let the one who hears say, 'Come!' Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life." Moreover, the actual ending to the book of Revelation is very positive. Revelation 22:20-21 ends like this: "He who testifies to these things says, 'Yes, I am coming soon.' Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen." After finding out Smith was an atheist, I wasn't surprised about the negative skew he paints of God and the Biblical text in the Brick Bible. As Psalm 18:25-26 states in the ESV: "With the merciful you show yourself merciful; with the blameless man you show yourself blameless; with the purified you show yourself pure; and with the crooked you make yourself seem tortuous." It's no wonder, then, that Smith sees the God of the Bible as tortuous. After all, Smith doesn't know this God whose Word he is illustrating, so he can't see God's mercy and grace that is present even within the judgments found throughout the Bible. God's mercy and grace shows forth abundantly when one realizes that, because of man's sin against Him, God could have wiped out all of humanity multiple times but instead chose to have grace on the human race by allowing us to live as long as He has without pulling the apocalyptic trigger to give more of us a chance to come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, being an atheist, Smith cannot see this side of God, and it shows in both little and big ways throughout the set. As a result, I cannot recommend these books.

My son loves it, and he asks me lots of good questions!
I gave this to my son three years ago when he was 6, and he is still reading it as a 9-year-old (it's well worn). He loves Legos and so this was a great fit. It's not 100% accurate in terms of representing the Bible stories, but that's a fair trade-off because it gets my son interested in the Bible, and opens up dialogue for us to talk about God and the stories from the Bible. He asks me lots of questions and we have lots of good discussions. He even points out some of the places that are a little off, since he has also learned a lot from church. I also gave my son the other Brick Bible on the Old Testament, and he loves that one as well.

Excellent content, poor Table of Contents
This review is for both the Old Testament and New Testament books. I was a fan of the Brick Testament website long before the books came out and I've read through the entire site so I was reluctant to buy the books since I had already seen it all. I was very impressed with how well they were done. They pretty much look like large graphic novels and read very easily. These books are an EXCELLENT resource for showing people some of the ridiculous and immoral garbage that's in the Bible. I laugh when I read negative reviews complaining that it's too graphic for kids. I wonder if those same people write similar reviews on non-illustrated versions of the same story from which they so love to claim they get their "moral compass." I did dock one star because I didn't think that the Table of Contents were sufficient, and there was no index, making it very difficult to reference things. I understand the logic behind not referencing every verse directly on each cell, but I think these books do a poor job in cross-referencing the actual Bible so that you know where you are in the story, or how to find a particular story. Part of the purpose of having a printed copy is for situations where you don't have the internet or site readily available, so expecting the reader to go to the website for the list of books and verses seems a bit lazy. To be fair, in the New Testament version, they did add the applicable verses on each page but they buried it deep in the spine of the book, which is poor placement in my opinion. The referenced verses should be clearly printed in the extra black space on the bottom of each page so you don't have to damage the binding to get to them. The Table of contents was minimal in the Old Testament version, and practically non-existent in the New Testament version (3 entries). There should have been an entry for each of the major stories and each book of the Bible so that the reader can quickly access them. I would also like to see some sort of "tabbing" on the right side of each page indicating which Bible book you are in. Overall, I'm still pleased with the book and the author does an amazing job of exposing these stories for what they are, but it's quite frustrating that they left out important tools for people who like to cross-reference the Bible or look for certain stories with ease.

Bible Collection
I collect Bibles and this is a very fun one, makes a great coffee table centerpiece. Don't expect to hear from the Lord reading it, but the images are beautifully crafted and gives a unique perspective on some of the events of the Bible. I recommend this one over the Old Testament ones, the book of Revelation is classic and great in the book

I thought this was absolutely superb. Bought as first communion gift and given to child hooked on his computer game until he saw it. I could no believe it but as soon as he got it he read it at the special occasion dinner for over an hour.....didn't even stop properly to eat ice-cream! All this said....I ordered a second copy for me son (has a yellow banner on the advert and in reality) and the paper quality poor so have returned. Think may have been misprint.....the one listed here with navy banner under title has glossy pages and looks terrific.
