Excellent
I purchased these nicotinic acid 100mg tablets a few weeks ago hoping to lower my cholesterol. My cholesterol was 235 and my doc put me on Lipitor last year and it did get my cholesterol down to 150 but the side effects of lipitor were bad. Leg cramps, UTI's, memory loss, etc. So I did a search online and found nicotinic acid can help lower cholesterol and read all about the "flush" so I was ready. I am mildly sensitive to meds anyway so started with the 100 mg. The reviews were right about the flush but after a week the flush died way back. I now take 2 nicotinic acid 100 mg tablets, 5-10 minutes apart. Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. When I feel the flush coming I just lay down and sense it is cleaning my arteries and veins. Hope to add an update when I get another lipid test at my yearly checkup.UPDATE a year and half later:. Love this stuff. It has helped bring down my B/P as well as cholesterol some. My cholesterol was 235 and now it is 195. I just take 1 (not 2) tablet first thing in the morning on a empty stomach and just a little water. I am after the "flush". If I take it with food I don't get the flush. The flush hits in about half an hour. After that I start drinking all my water and eventually breakfast. I take this every other day not sure why. Sure better than than Lipitor. I have been able to half my B/P medicine as this helps lower B/P.

Feels like burning
Having never taken a B3 supplement before I didn't know what to expect with the flush. I looked into it, and I don't know if other people are just not good at describing things, or if some people just have a more extreme reaction. I was just expecting to possibly feel warm, which is already bad enough. No, this was like fire under my skin with sharp stinging, followed by itching, I got a bit red as well. It started in my face. For a second I thought the face cream I had put on was irritating my skin, but it got worse and worse, spread to my ears, and eventually down my entire body. It's been about a half hour since I've taken this and I still feel a burning/warm sensation, albeit much more tolerable.I'm not trying to be critical of this product per se, as this is an expected side effect of B3 supplements and they don't claim "no flush." I just wanted to warn others that this flush can really hurt. For my needs, I should have gotten niacinamide, not nicotinamide, but that's my error. Supposedly niacinamide does not cause this flushing but depending on your intended purpose, nicotinamide may be the way you need to go. As for me, I wouldn't take this again unless my life depended on it. I'm doing it for cosmetic reasons, so, this was unfortunately a waste.

I get my moneys worth
First of all, I trust the brand. Second of all, this particular dosage I feel gives me my money's worth. I've read that many individuals can only tolerate about half this amount without flushing. Taken on an empty stomach, I would agree. Taken with food is another matter... that is, I can tolerate the 100 mg amount with only a hint of the flushing that comforts me in knowing it is working throughout my body... and thus my brain. Some years ago I read about a study that suggested Niacin (nicotinic acid, the flushing kind) can be a deterrent to the onset of Alzheimer's Disease. And speaking of studies, there has recently been one that was done involving a niacin-like product (presumably manufactured in a way so a drug company could patent a form of naturally occurring, and thus unpatentable, vitamin)... and that study had neutral or possibly a negative outcome for whatever was being studied.Sometimes it not nice to mess with what nature has perfected... at least, that's my approach when it comes to Niacin. That's just one more reason I don't take non-flushing Niacin... because I don't think it is as beneficial as Nicotinic Acid for providing what a body and mind needs.disclaimer: YMMV

Great Niacin product!
This is a lower dose of niacin than most products contain - only 100 mg per capsule - but it's very effective. This product is especially good for those who don't like the strong "flush" associated with the stronger 500 mg tablets. Yes, this one will still give you the flush at first, if you're not used to taking niacin, but after a week or so the flush shouldn't come any more. Anyway, we you do have the flush, the redness or burning you get with this product is bearable and should only last for around 10 minutes or so. Anyway, the 100 mg dosage is also perfect if you are trying to increase your dosage: Instead of trying to break a tablet, you can just take 1 capsule and then another one after a few hours, etc.
