They are instead a mixture of a very low percentage wasabi, e.g. 3%, and horseradish. Even the one at the sushi bar is like this, if you are outside of Japan. Given this, this Yutaka is waaaay better than any other brand. Most tend to have a very feeble, but nonetheless noticeable bitterness, while this does not at all. I can't think of any other commercial brand that is better. Review: Very tasty, good price. I would not mind being able to buy a bigger container or jar of this product. Strongly recommend
