Makita E-01694 Impact XPS® 8 Pc. 1/4" Drive 6-Point Metric Impact Socket Set w/Standard Socket Adapter

I discovered that I had a cordless impact driver but I did not own impact sockets and why that is a good idea. I wound up with the Makita set because I wanted a small 1/4” to go with a compact tool kit I built for my laptop bag. The flexible rubberish carrying case was the deciding factor. So I now have the 1/4” set for my backpack (it’s lightweight and tiny). And I have a 3/8 and and a second 1/4 for my tool bag. Great set up. I doubt I’ll buy a non impact set again. Seems to be a high quality, Taiwanese made set. Even tbe 3/8 is compact vs most metal or plastic holders. That is tbe best part of the design. They fit well in a tool bag and the 1/4” disappears in my daily carry work bag. It’s with a very light duty bicycle repair socket to keep weight down. The 3/8 is obviously much larger / heavier. I which it had a 1/4” socket. 5/16 it the smallest. The metric stops at 6mm which basically is 1/4”. Great sets. Perfect holder

I purchased these to use on the upper and lower F-150 4.2 intake manifolds. Admittedly, they only torque to 100 inch pounds, but the sockets are clean and precise, fitting the 8mm bolt heads well. Looks like a great set for 1/4" drives if your needs are less than 14mm.

I must have received an updated version of this socket set because there are a couple of differences between the set in the photo and the one I received. At first glance I was just a little disappointed to see that the red holder had been replaced with a grey one. I'll get over it eventually I'm sure. The second change was a welcome one. In the old version the socket sizes are very lightly stamped into the sides of the sockets. The size stamps are hidden when the sockets are in the holder so if you don't have them all memorized perfectly you have to take one out, spin it around until you find the stamp and then hold it just right in the light so you can actually read it. This new version has laser etched sizes ABOVE the silicone when in the holder so they are easily readable even without removing them. A welcome improvement to an already great little set of sockets. Just wish they'd kept the red holder.

Good quality product

If you're looking for a basic, 1/4" drive socket set that comes with a little holder and doesn't stop at 12mm or 1/2", here ya go. These sets go to 13mm amd 9/16". And I didn't want a little ratchet, or some driver handle, so I wasn't sold one. Nice addition to a small EDC toolkit.
