New West Records 20th Anniversary

This anniversary retrospective totally surprised me! I don't listen to country or folk music much; I only knew about New West because of its connections to Twin\Tone Records and to members of The Replacements. When it comes to boots, I think Docs not cowboy.So I felt like I was taking a chance buying this thing. And guess what, there's a lot of great music here! This set slams AND twangs. It brings me back to the days when freeform radio ruled. No micro-targeting, no stylistic silos. Just great music that reflected the taste of whoever was DJing .The only thing I would change is the booklet. None of the photos, other than promo glossies put out by the label, have captions! So unless you already know who somebody is, there's no easy way to tell who you're looking at.Four stars for a fun, eclectic collection.
