Opinion of A Great Book
A great storyline that also evokes an emotional response. I am an avid lifelong book reader (of thirty years) and there is no higher praise than a book that can make a person laugh, cry, feel, and root for the characters. I have loved the series so far but must say this: the third book, has been super amazing and I cannot wait, and am on my way to the next. Congratulations to the author and great work!

My favorite in the series so far.
The pacing was well written. You'll feel every emotion by the end of the book. I already bought the entire set that's available. I will be finishing this series.

Quite good, and brutal.
I have to say that I really enjoyed this iteration of the series much more than the first two. The world building and brutal conflict in it is phenomenal and I can't wait to see where it goes. There are things I predicted, and things I never saw coming, and a lot of new creature types were introduced as well.Spoilers below for some character relationships. My only minor gripe is how the relationships of some of the characters are brought forth in this book, mainly talking about Volke, Illia and Zaxis. It's a weird feeling for me that Illia is ok going out with someone who tormented (and continues to trouble) Volke for his entire childhood. I'm really hoping that this is just a ploy by her to get under Volke's skin by being with someone that he doesn't really like all that much (though I know they're getting along somewhat better in this book, but not by much with all of Zaxis incessance on how he's better than Volke specifically). I only say that because there were some lines where she shirked Zaxis' touch, but I guess only time will tell once i read the other books. To state, I don't really care if Volke and Illia get together or not, I'm just weirded out by the fact that Illia is essentially dating her siblings bully. When it was first teased I honestly thought Zaxis was doing it just to mess with Volke because he was written to despise both of them for being grave keepers, so the 180 to being head over heels for one of them is jarring.Other than that, the book is excellent.

Excellent continuation of the series
I read the first two books of Shami Stovall’s Frith Chronicles (Knightmare Arcanist and Dread Pirate Arcanist) and added Coliseum Arcanist (Frith Chronicles #3) to my TBR list. Read on for my thoughts!Synopsis (from the author):Adventure. Competition. A duel to the death. While on a journey to the famous city of Thronehold, Volke Savan learns of the Sovereign Dragon Tournament. The massive celebration involves hundreds of arcanists competing for fame and glory, and Volke is determined to win.Dark forces dwell in the city, however, and rumors of the legendary world serpent spread amongst the shadows. Whoever bonds with a god-like mystical creature will gain magic beyond compare, and the queen’s guards suspect cutthroats will use the chaos of the tournament to hide their plotting.Unsure of who to trust, Volke investigates the terrible rumors while advancing in the ranks of the tournament. Unfortunately, the true villain may be closer than he realizes…What I liked:I enjoyed Volke’s continued growth as well as the growth of the other characters. The interplay between the humans and their Eldrin fascinated me, as did the increasing magical abilities the humans gained. Ilia started to mature more than I expected, and the mystery surrounding Adelgis’ relationship with his father adds a layer to the story. Of course, I have to mention Karna and Fain, two new characters who add intrigue and action to the tale. Don’t forget, too, the plot and overarching story that Shami Stovall continues to build. What I didn’t like:Volke, though he continues to grow as a character, still lacks some basic sensibilities about romance, relationships, and the like. It would be nice to see him realize there are potential partners for him.Overall impression:Coliseum Arcanist was an excellent continuation of the series. An expansive overarching plot, good characters, and plenty of intrigue and action kept me turning the pages. If you like fantasy, this book (and the rest of the series) is a great read!My rating:5 Stars

Each book in this series gets better
This is easily the best yet - and that’s not to say the rest were bad: far from it. The first one was a bit slow and predictable at the start, but really began to take off from about half way through. The second built on the characters and created a good, satisfyingly complex world with an ingenious magic, not all-powerful, but enough to be challenging for those who carried it.And this one really moves into another league: the challenges are bigger and the characters grow bigger to face them. The ending is a cracking cliff-hanger and I’m really glad the next one in the series is here. If they keep on improving like this, they’ll be one of the must-reads of the year. Good young adult, coming of age novels with a wide cast of sexualities and instincts. Beautiful.

Incredible third book
From the beginning this series has had a clear view of where it wants to go. The relationships are all well thought out and planned. Each event links into the others perfectly. And the tension builds quickly. The story itself is incredible and the big twists are not predictable. Great book and series

Amazing
Absolutely amazing, I'm a huge fan of the series. Each book keeps me enthralled all the way through cannot wait until the next book. Highly advise anyone who loves fantasy to read these books. I also love the fact that it includes LGBTQ characters without it being obvious/a main theme.

Good plot becomes brilliant story
Best in the series of the first 4 books. Everything good about the first two books is here and more. The increased page count really helps the story and characters develop.
