It provided me with more knowledge than I expected, offering deeper insight into literature and strategies for teaching reading comprehension. I’m going into my third year of teaching (6th grade ELA and then 3rd grade self-contained). I can’t recommend this book enough! I’ve been researching and learning what I can about the Science of Reading and this really helps break it down and make it understandable. It gives me ideas of how structure instruction. If you teach reading (any grade level), this is a must-read!

This is not a “reading strategy” book. It’s a way to comprehensively think through the different parts of good reading instruction and how they fit together. I found so many of the sections insightful.

This was a textbook for a class. The information is excellent for the reading comprehension teacher. However, I felt that the author really was in love with diagrams, to the detriment of the text. There were too many diagrams and they were confusing to figure out. A helpful diagram simplifies what is being written. These did not. I finally realized I didn't need to pay attention to the diagrams, and I understood the book much better.

As an educator in elementary this book has provided me with a great deal of support. I am able to use this book supporting teachers that plan writing across all grade levels. It has a clear pacing guide of where to begin and the progression. I paired this book with The Writing Revolution and it has increased writing knowledge across the board. If you’re looking for more information for writing, look no further!

It is very frustrating to purchase a professional reading book such as this one, start reading it, and making notes and highlights only to have the book begin to fall apart. About 20 pages have detached from the spine of the book. I'd love to return it and request a new one, but then I'd also have to transfer all my notes.
