At last! The legendary Rockpalast-concerts of Graham Parker remastered on 2 DVDs! Graham Parker has hold onto his reputation as one of the most important singer-songwriters for more than 30 years. Together with The Rumour, Graham Parker gave two shows at the Rockpalast. The CD set represents both concerts, the first from 1978 at the WDR-Studio where The Rumour was backed up by a horn section. The second appearance at Grugahalle, Esssen was in 1980, where Parker opened the 7th legendary Rockpalast-Night. This time Nicky Hopkins sat in at the piano (famous for his works with The Beatles and Rolling Stones). A historical event!

Exceeded Expectations!!
I'm so glad I bought this. I was looking to replace the tape I'd made from a radio broadcast of a live GP & the R concert in Chicago. I couldn't find that one but the songs (and a review) on this double cd convinced me that it was worth a shot. There are 2 discs - Disc One is of a 1980 concert and Disc Two is one performed in 1978. The 1978 concert is the best (in my opinion) but the audience is very low key (I guess they didn't really know the band). The second concert is also well-worth having too. I thought they were both brilliant!!! Very pleased with the purchase.

Great Concerts by GP and the Rumour!
This set contains two shows from GP one is from 1980 and the second from 1982 (the Rumours last tour with GP). The show of interest for me was the 1980 show where they were 3rd on the bill behind the Police! The band is putting out a rocking show and no one appears to be paying any attention until the end. By time the 1982 show comes around, they are the headliners and a different story. Both shows are excellent! The DVD is worthy as well!!!

Great show but the last three songs on the first disc won't play and won't rip.
Two classic shows but the first one on disc one from 1980 refuses to play the last three songs or rip it to my hard drive. Be aware, that the disc looks just fine which suggests a manufacturing problem with the disc itself.I'm surprised no one else has reported this as the problem isn't with the brand new disc drive that I used nor my stand alone CD player. It also isn't copy protected so not sure what the problem IS. The other show plays and rips flawlessly as does the rest of the 1980 show.

Amazing
At their height, GP & the Rumor were amazing, as was this 2 CD set.The only negative was the German audience sitting on their hands, or politely applauding.Must have seen Adolph & the Fraulines as the opening act.

Classic GP
Two great recordings; the older show has a horn section, the newer one is a bit longer with great song selection. Hope the boys listen to this befor ethe next leg of the tour.

Classic GP!
If you are a fan of early Graham Parker and the Rumour this is for you! Two complete shows one from 1980 and the other from 1978. It's the 1978 show that is great, they are playing 3rd on the bill and they haven't quite taken off in Germany let, and the band just lets it rip to only moderate applause. A great set with an expanded Rumour. The 1980 show is just the basic Rumour and again the band shows just how great they were. A surprise guest of Nikki Hopkins on piano fills out the band. Both shows are well recorded and worth having in your collection!

belle performance brutta registrazione

Reibeisenstimme

Superb live sets from GP... ruined by a technical flaw on Disc 1
I've got a massive problem here. First, I must stress that, as a GP fan, I found THE MUSIC on both discs here beyond reproach; especially the 1980 set, which draws almost exclusively from his two best albums, Squeezing Out Sparks and The Up Escalator, with all the songs re-worked as flat-out rockers, sped up to maximum velocity but still marvellously taught. Brilliant stuff. So my problem doesn't stem from the music. No, for some reason I keep having problems ripping Disc 1 (the aforesaid 1980 gig) onto my PC - both CDs play just fine on my stand-alone(Denon) Hi-Fi CD player, but a handful of tracks towards the end of Disc 1 flatly refuse to import properly when I rip them onto the PC; when played back they skip/jump likle a scratched CD does (even though this CD is immaculate) and contain sections of 'popping' distortion-type noise that pretty much ruins the affected songs. The other tracks import fine. I initially assumed the disc was a dud so arranged for a replacement copy but the EXACT same thing happens with this one too; I've tried iTunes (with error correction on/off) and Windows Media Player (at various bit-rates). I even tried a totally different PC with a slower CD drive working off a different version of Windows (becuase Windows 7 sometimes conflicts with the copy protection on some CDs). But the problems remains! Weirdly, each time I re-import the CD, different (adjoining) tracks mess up in slightly different places, so by keeping everything to date I'll hopefully be able to piece it all together eventully... but it's something of a labour of love. I'd have been better off buying it as an mp3. If you mainly listen to music on an ipod/computer then that's what I'd advise. Trust me, I'm not new to this and haven't had problems importing 5,000 odd other CDs in the past. In fact I'm wondering whether this CD was manufactured on the cheap becuase a few of the song titles contain mis-spelling on the rear sleeve ('Holin Wind', 'Manouvers' [sic]). Perhaps the manufacturing of the discs suffered from the same lack of care. Which would be a shame because the music really deserves to be heard!
