Great find
Unfortunately, I've been unable to find this in bookstores. However, was able to find it here on Amazon (shocker, right?). One of my middle son's favorite books as a child and the sound effect works!

Missing pages.
Update: I changed my stars from 1 to 4 because the new book was not missing pages but some of the pages are curled and hard to hold when reading to my classroom.Original review:I love the story this review is about the condition of the book I received. The first picture is what I received with missing pages and the last two are what I should have received (picture is from my original 10 plus year old book). I am currently waiting for my replacement for my recent order and will update but the first order was missing the last page of the book so I was really disappointed since I wanted to read it with my PreK class. My original version from 10 plus years ago no longer played the music at the end of the book so I was looking forward to this one. Hopefully the new order will be complete with all the pages!

Silly story but 3yo loves it
As with many of this author's books, there isn't much plot. However, that matters very little when compared to the joy our child takes in uncovering each of the animals and - MOST IMPORTANT - pushing the button for the creepy holiday tune at the end of the book. The reviews criticizing the book's construction are accurate, but again, none of that bothers our little one a bit. I'd recommend other holiday books first, but if you need a fun, easy [and fast] read, this one will do well.

Not a huge Carle fan, but love this book
I find a lot of Eric Carle's books a bit humdrum, with the exception of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, so when my daughter was given this book for Christmas about five years ago, I thought it was all a bit gimmicky with its "tingle, tingle, tingle" noisy button at the end and plasticky, white-covered pages simulating snow. But we read this thing over and over, and the rhythm of it was so gentle and the sounds of the book so hushed, that it was a metaphysical experience. In other words, I felt as though Carle was covering us with a white blanket of words. Ahh, the memories of the soft and slow pace bring back a smile. Then the farmer suddenly realizes that he's forgotten something, and there's a flurry of activity (like a flurry of snow!!) as he rushes out to decorate the tree. Cap it all off with the "tingly" button, which gets pushed over and over and over and over, etc.Anyway, the long and the short of all this is that I am buying a second copy for my family, having misplaced the original. I now have three other children who haven't been introduced to this lovely book, and I truly think your own children or grandchildren will find it a classic.

Another Eric Carle book
The only reason I bought this was for Christmas. It is typical Eric Carle and not the strongest story. Child liked the counting and beautiful pictures. Good holiday book. Probably would not buy again.

Cute Book!
Sturdy board book with nice artwork and a simple story. Fun flaps on every page. Great addition to a young child's library.

Adored by my autistic son.
I have the older version of this book, not the new board version with lift-the-flaps. The first time I read it I wasn't particularly impressed - it seemed a bit of a non-story to me. But my autistic son was fascinated by it and wanted it read over and over. He absolutely loves it now, and it's difficult to distract him with other books so I can put it away in January and save it for the following December when it will seem fresh again. The story and language and artwork have a simple charm and after reading it many times I can really appreciate the magic touch that Eric Carle has in making books that young children love.Spoiler alert! As I read this book many times to my son, I started to feel that it had a subtle underlying message about the Santa story. Having an autistic child with a very literal understanding of truth, it can be tricky to find a balance between telling him a traditional tale, but not having him feel betrayed and confused if he later finds out the tale is not 100% true. This book seemed to hint that the role of Santa can be fulfilled by the person who loves and cares for you all year, and that doesn't make it any less special. But perhaps I'm just over-analysing!

Wonderful winter story book
Wonderful winter story to be read leading up to a Christmas. My 15 month old granddaughter particularly liked the bumpy spotty board cover, the flaps and feeling the decorated tree. Great book for introducing counting, numbers, farm animals & items of clothing. Also suspense & surprise. Great value for money.

A wonderful Christmas story
This is a beautifully written and illustrated Christmas story. My 14 month child adored sharing this book, lifting the flaps and recognising the characters by making the appropriate animal noises.
