Targus 16 Inch Compact Rolling Backpack, Black - Wheeled Travel Bag Fits Laptops Up to 16”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Perfect Lightweight Rolling Backpack for Travel! I absolutely love this Targus 16 Inch Compact Rolling Backpack! It’s lightweight, durable, and perfect for short trips. One of the best features is that it passes as a personal item—a huge plus with airlines now charging $60+ for carry-ons (and even more at the counter). The wheels are smooth and quiet, unlike a small duffle I tried to modify with wheels—those were so loud and bumpy on carpet. This Targus bag rolls effortlessly on both tile and carpet, and the option to wear it as a backpack is super convenient when you need it to look smaller for airline checks. There are tons of compartments, which makes organizing easy. I use the side pocket for my electronics and chargers, and the main section fits my laptop, iPad, toiletries, and clothes—no problem. It’s now my go-to travel bag for electronics and essentials, and it’s even roomy enough for a short getaway. This bag has made traveling so much easier and more affordable for me. My daughter and I are going to Europe on a three week trip across different countries and do not want to lug around a big suitcase. We need one small personal item and a carry-on. We decided we wanted to do rolling backpacks so we can throw on our backs over cobble roads, as well as roll when needed in airports. I got these five as they were both Low-cost (under $60) and had high ratings. Now I have to decide between five of them which two we are keeping. In order from left to right in the photos they are the Targus, Gotech, Bagsmart, Yorepek and Matein. As you can see here Targus is one of the smallest ones of the five and unfortunately also has wheels that don’t roll very smoothly so that one was out for our use. Matien was also one of the smallest ones and i like so much about it. But from the remaining four, it had the least smoothest roll, did not have an attached rain cover for the backpack and if you planned to take a laptop, it would have to be less than 15”, super small laptop backpack. So this one is out too. Down to last three: Gotech has the smoothest roll but it is also pretty small and slim and doesnt look like it could carry a lot. It is however the only one in which you cannot feel the wheels no matter how full it is. Its also the sleekest/prettiest. And less visible logo. I hate seeing logos. I want to keep this one but ultimately the material feels like pleather and likely will start showing signs of wear and tear quickly. That one is out. So by default, sticking with the Yorepek which appears extremely durable and more spacious, but with that, its also the heaviest. The others feel about the same weight. Yorepek is cool bc bottom-side has a small handle if there is a need to grab from bottom (think plane loading.) Tons of pockets. Unfortunately doesn’t open all the way. Also sticking with Bagsmart. Lots of pockets, and down the middle on all the other issues mentioned above. I just noticed, on of The final choices also happen to be the cheapest of the five as of this review, so thats a plus: yorepek.

I’ve used this several times to commute to work via train and bus - I love many things about it - the pockets in front are great for easy access. The main compartment has plenty of room for my laptop, notebook, work shoes, umbrella and my small lunch box. The telescoping handle is smooth and goes up/down easily. The things that could use improving - it’s not very comfortable wearing as a backpack but I hardly do that. I really wish there was 2 water bottle holders - one side has a mesh pocket that seems useless to me. And the wheels are really loud - not as much probably in an airport or school hallway, but I use it for city sidewalks. The wheels seem like they might not last long in the way I’m using it.

I bought this bag in early 2015. As my work bag, it took over 2 year of abuse on the streets of Seattle. It has a large open space inside which easily fits a standard projector, a lap top, a set up small speakers plus files. This bag has also been my primary travel bag to place like Japan, the Dominican Republic, D.C., California. It functions as the perfect carry on, even when overstuffed. It converts easily from the roller option in the airport to backpack version on stairs. Once at the destination and you're unpacked, it can serve as an out-and-about backpack for sightseeing or going to the beach. What makes this bag so functional for travel purposes is that the inside isn't a bunch of flaps for organizing work items; instead, it has a big open space, perfect for layering in clothes and shoes, toiletries, etc. In the end, the stitching began to give way on my first bag as I am prone to overstuffing it on a regular basis with files, books, shoes, lunch, tablet, etc. The fact that it lasted 2 years under this kind of punishment is a good sign. There seem to have been a couple of design "improvements" made to the bag compared to the first one I bought. This bag is lighter than the last one. That's not necessary a good thing; now the bag is front heavy and tips over more often in the front where the tablet is. The front of the current model zips all the way open; it used to stop a couple of inches from the bottom. This will aid in packing for trips with the bag in the horizontal position but makes loading and unloading the bag for work a bit less convenient as when you zip open when the bag is in the vertical position things just start falling out. For me, there is no such multi-purpose bag, especially for the price. But if you are just looking for the ultimate work / laptop bag you can probably find better.

I'd been looking for a backpack with wheels for a while and, as im from the UK, I found it pretty hard to track down. It doesnt seem like a product that is very common over here. Many were too big, sizes you'd use for going on holiday rather than communting to work. Im starting a new job thats local and wanted to, TRY, and cycle to work. And so, I wanted something that I could put over my shoulders easily and then once at work could wheel around. Though I havent had the oppounity to wheel it around yet, so I cant comment on noisy wheels i know some people have mentioned. This bag is perfect, compact but very spacious, its a bit like a tardus - little on the outside big on the inside. I saw the Youtube video online and was suprised that it says it can hold a 17 laptop, which it can, I also put my 11 inch one in too, they fit perfectly. This is in the main compartment. There was still room for my ShirtShuttle - a case to hold my shirts in without getting them creased. In the front compartment, you can hold a tablet and a kindle, I've had my Galaxy Note and my New Trent iCruiser IMP120D 12000mAh External Battery Pack in there fine. I can have it charging happily in my bag without an issues. It also has a side compartment so i guess you could put a bottle in there or your cables for your laptops, though they'd fit in the main compartment fine. It also has a cover on the back below the straps attach by valcrow that that be used to protect/hid the wheels, which is a neat extra. I cannot be more happy with this bag, remember with delivery i paid about £90, so $160/$180, im not sure of current exchange, but i think it was totally worth it, im very happy with this bag. Oh and as I said in the title, I placed the order on Monday and had it expedited for an extra £5 it arrived from the states the Friday of that week, which is awesome!!! Though, I love this bag, and I did give it 5 stars, I thought if I were to improve the bag, id include a solar panel as a means to charge the gadgets it holds. Im sure this would bump the price up but seems like a missed oppotunity to me and would make the bag the ultimate prize for gadget lovers like myself. Voltaic do a solar panel laptop charger that actually attachs to an existing backpack though im unclear how it would look in realtion to this bag. But that aside, its brilliant and I highly recommend it, I havent found anything that comes as close to the quality of this bag in the UK, so much so that I decided importing it was the only option. LOVE IT!!!

UPDATE 11/24/19: So I promised to update when I broke it...bottom portion of handle now stuck in extended position (you know this happened just before I boarded an aircraft, as always...). Targus has indicated they'll stand by warranty, but I've got to ship bag back to them on my dime - which they'll invariably throw away - I suspect this serves as a disincentive (it's about $20.00 to ship) for folks to take them up on their warranty (as many other luggage companies just require you to send them a pic of the destroyed bag). After thinking about it I decided to purchase a different bag and give another company a try. At this point, I can't recommend a product that won't even last a year of normal use. Downgraded to 1 star. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Frequent domestic airline traveler/professional looking to downsize/lighten the load from Samsonite rolling business case and get a little more versatile with carry options. Tried several different brands of rolling backpacks, some better made but heavier; this bag strikes a decent balance between reasonable durability, capacity and weight. Should point out that the actual capacity of the bag is 27L, not 29L (see tag). I use it for airplane carry-on: laptop/digital kit, tablet, chargers, emergency overnight essentials, packed jacket, etc - I routinely check a suitcase - so travel with 2 bags. 27-30L is the right size for me - these bags get bigger quicker and thus more difficult to carry/maneuver on a plane, etc. So your choice is largely driven by how much you need to carry in it, and one of my criteria was standard US domestic carry-on limit: 22” x 14” x 9”. This bag will fit (depending on how full) under most larger aircraft seats and certainly in the overhead on regional jets. This is one of the few, if not only, bags that does not have a zipper cover over the shoulder straps - just 2 velcro attachment points to hold the 3/4 flap in place. This is actually a critical component, as the flap ( and straps) will get caught under the wheels if (when...) it comes loose and you're rolling it. And as anybody that has ever used velcro before knows - it'll wear out in a year or two with frequent use. At any rate, I added a snap to each connection point (see pics) - seems rather obvious and I'm not sure why Targus doesn't do that. Also suggest you push it "wheels-first" into the TSA scanner - otherwise this strap-flap can peel back. Recommend the bag if the size is right for you – mine goes on airplanes, hotels, cars, trucks and out to the field. Rolled through airports, carried in the field. My 14" laptop does ride inside a separate carry case (neoprene) – inside the flap provided (also padded) – the bag is lightweight and so far sturdy enough - although could use more pockets/organizational spaces IMO – my only real con with the bag. Will update when I break it…

The bag itself is very convinient, easily allowing to carry a laptop (even 2 laptops easily) and some clothes. The trolley mechanism though got stuck after a short while - it required pressing a hidden button inside the bag itself instead of easily fold it through the handle. Well, I lived with that but after a few more months the hidden button also got stuck and this rendered the bag useless. I had used it for short flights which I take often due to work obligations, and now the bag cannot be easily placed in the overhead bin in the airplane. So, I basically used it for ±1 year and that's it.

I purchased this rolling backpack to replace my daughter's high school backpack that I was currently using for travel. Her backpack was getting a bit old and didn't quite fit everything that I needed for a five day stay in another city. I'm a light traveler and don't really like taking a full carry on or checking a bag, so I thought this was a good option. I was a little skeptical about this rolling backpack actually fitting under the seat of the plane in front of me but I purchased it anyway and thought I'd give it a try. Let me tell you this rolling backpack is amazing. I arrived at the airport early and picked up my favorite Starbuck's beverage and sat down on those horribly uncomfortable seats at the terminal. I was doing a little light reading before boarding the plane so I put the backpack in front of me and comfortably propped my legs up on it. I took it on the plane as a backpack and I did have to turn it sideways to get it under the seat, but it did fit and that will depend on the airline and where you are sitting. As I got off the plane I undid the flap for the wheels and tucked the handles under the flap to hold them in place. The handle is the perfect height for me at 5'8", I didn't have to bend to hold onto the handle. It worked beautifully while traveling through the airport and getting onto the lightrail train. The wheels glide smooth on the concrete and carpet and seem to be very sturdy. The amount of pockets made it easy to stash various items in different locations. It has a nice mesh pocket on the side that I used to put my sunglass case for easy access. The pocket on the inside is large and fit my small laptop computer, iPad and a large eye shadow case. Unfortunately, as you will see from the photo of the back, someone had stuck gum under the seat in front of me and it stuck to one of the backpack handles. Nothing a little ice and elbow grease won't fix. All in all, this backpack saved my shoulder from added weight while traveling and I didn't feel like I had to stuff my items while traveling.

Trolley got stuck at one level after 1 month of use. Otherwise, working fine after 5 months

Bought this rolling laptop bag for work, mainly because I had pulled out my neck/shoulder from carrying a laptop bag that was too heavy! Features: padding inside for your laptop, lots of space, pockets, slim shape for easy storage when traveling, or just passing people in the office hallway, and of course the wheels for walking to my car / to the office. Durable fabric, well constructed. Recommend this laptop bag!

This unit replaced a couple of travel bags that never really suited my needs. Unlike the last roller bag, the Targus is stable and does not fall over with a large tablet inside. Ih has ust enough space to fit overnight clothes and tablet accessories. It fits into smaller planes' overhead lockers. Obviously having both back straps and wheels makes this very adaptable. The backpack straps are quite useful even if the cover for the straps looks a bit clumsy and does not fully cover the straps.
