MAP Anza-Borrego Desert Region (Wilderness Maps)

Having explored the vast majority of the Anza-Borrego desert over the last 15 years, nothing has given me more insight or direction than this map. Nothing even comes close to help find the many hidden treasures of the desert, except maybe my own GPS tracks...which aren't nearly as complete and were based on this very map.For all those recommending buying the book for the free map, I completely agree. You should indeed get the book. I however recommend getting this map separately as well if you plan on using it long term.A few weeks ago I found my book and map in the door of my truck warped from some form of water damage, and while the book is still completely functional, the map was ruined. Portions stuck together beyond repair. I set off to buy another copy of the book for the map, but decided to save the $3 bucks and get exactly what I needed. I was pleasantly surprised to discover the received map is waterproof. I can already tell the new map will last 10 times longer.So if you really just want the map, this is the one to get, if you want the best deal, get the book with map, if you're planning on heading out on more than a few occasions, get all three. Everyone in Anza should have some combination of these.

This is the definitive map. They sell it at the Park Visitor Center and the Rangers will tell you to get this one if you plan on exploring off-highway. Better to get it in advance to help you plan your trip. Be sure and download maps on your phone too (Google, AllTrail, Gaia, etc). Pro Tip: this map is included with the guide book "Anza-Borrego Desert Region: Your Complete Guide to the State Park" Also a must have for exploring this wonderful desert.

Most of the area covered by this map has spotty cell coverage at best, making traditional GPS risky. This map was extremely helpful in getting us to our primitive campsite and helping us find trail heads, but we did find that some of the dirt roads had shifted - this may be simply due to traffic changes. Still, it did exactly what we needed it to do, and we'll be using it again on our next trip out. Just watch for signs and keep your bearings as you navigate the 4WD roads.

Comes in handy when there's no cell service, too.
