Works well, easy to accurately color match
I’ve repaired numerous chips on my paddle boards and on my 18-year-old burgundy fiberglass Yamaha ski boat with this set. Color matching is surprisingly good… especially considering that I’m matching sun-faded fiberglass.

great and easy to use!!
I needed to repair a crack in the bottom of my hull. It appeared that the crack was only through the gel coat and not through the fiberglass. I took a dremel tool and ground the crack open to about an 1/8" of an inch and went past the crack a little as well. This allowed me to inspect and see how deep the crack was. Luckily it was only the gel coat!! The bottom is of my hull is a faded blue. Its a little tough to match the color, make sure you mix your color first until you are happy than add the hardener. I taped around the crack with blue painters tape and added the gel coat. That way when you scrape the product off you have a just little but more that you can sand down. I stared with 600 wet sand and went to a 1000, than i used a heavy compound and a wool pad and buffer. It was ended up very smooth and than just apply your typical wax and you are done. They give you quite a bit of material so only mix a little at a time pending on the size of the repair. Im going to try and dremel out some of the spider cracks next and repair those on the topside. This is a very good product, we will see if it last through the sailing season.

Great product
Great product but hard to use. Be sure to practice and watch some YouTube videos before attempting.

YES, There is enough pigment!
Instructions say: "The colorant should NOT exceed 5% of the gelcoat paste used. Therefore do not exceed the equivalent amount of 1 tube of colorant TOTAL per 4 ounces of gelcoat paste." Well, there are 4 oz of paste in the kit, and 1 tube of each "colorant" (pigment), so, yeah, there is enough of each color to pigment all 4 oz. As for money value, it's pretty freaking expensive, but extremely convenient for small repairs. I bought my kit about 4 years ago. Just using it again today. If it doesn't work, it's not on them. If it does, I will report back. This product does what it is advertised to do, and the gel component is a very nice feature.

Good Value!
I would like to give the item 3.5 stars. This is a functional package and could deliver all that is promised with more detailed instructions. If one has little knowledge of auto/boat body work (such as me). A bit more instruction would be helpful. In my case I needed to patch some small chips on corners and I believe that was the difference in a perfect job vs and adequate job. Next, how to manipulate the pigment tubes should contain a bit more instruction. What to use when opening the tubes such as a needle vs finishing nail, vs scissors etc. A "drop" of pigment from a finishing nail hole does not equal a drop of pigment from a scissor cut tube. Then, a discussion on how to store and reuse the pigment on another day should be added. The second day, during my second area of repair, the pigment has dried and the dispensiing hole had partially closed disrupting the sized of the pigment drops. These are just two examples of how a novice struggles with such projects. The end result was a repaired boat ready for the water. The boat was built in 1972. For the price, this is a great product. I would buy it again.

Check your colors!
For starters, make sure whatever color you are trying to match, make the paste a shade lighter. I repaire a chip in my gelcoat and the following cracks using this kit. I matched my teal striping on my boat to a TEE when it was wet and mixing. However, as it dried and hardened, it was a darker shade and I now have a dark spot on my boat that I'm going to have to re-cover to match. Other than that, some 1000-grit sandpaper takes a while to sand it down, but leaves the finish smooth and consistent. Make sure that you work fast and have acetone on hand or plan to go get some while you're waiting for it to dry. The package says one hour, but give it 2. Wax paper appears to be the best covering while it is curing unless you have a roll of stiff plastic hanging around. I've been told that GLAD WRAP works well, however I tried that at first and noticed it wrinkling a lot, which would have given a very uneven finish and caused extra sanding. In the end, a great product, that has saved me time and money. My repair is water proof and absorbed the Meguiar's Flagship Boat Wax just like the rest of my hull.

Sunfish hull repair
This product seem to work well but in order to match the white color of my sunfish sailboat, I needed to color the paste to an off-white. In order to do this with about one fifth of the total product, I needed to use, essentially the entire tube of white colorant. That white color to appear to be almost completely full of air and very little white paste hence the two star rating instead of five. Otherwise, the product worked great on the scratches and dings that I had.
