Terrific meat substitute if prepared correctly
I love this product. Prepared correctly it is an excellent meat substitute that we use here on a regular basis. The secret is to rehydrate with a flavorful broth with added onion and garlic powder, then press out any excess water. Stir in a tablespoon of olive oil, then sauté in a lightly oiled pan until it’s crispy on the edges. Season with a bit of smoked salt and you have yourself a tasty vegetarian meal.

These are great.
Love these. So versatile. Not sure about leaving in stew over night they seem a bit soggy but any other recipe they are wonderful. Flavor them any flavor as they come ready for you to add what ever, for meat feel without feeling bad. I have breaded them for popcorn chicken, stew, beef flavor bouillon for stroganoff, bbq sauce... Veggie for 30 years and so eaten alot of stuff. Stocking these on subscribe for sure.

Not ready to become a Vegan but it's a start
I instruct the fine art of Dutch oven cooking to Scouts and Scout leaders and usually have to accommodate food allergies and other dietary restrictions. This time it was the vegans. I was planning on chili and I wanted something other just beans so I tried Plant Basics. Go figure, it turned out to be a good substitute for ground beef. Had I not told anyone about meat substitute I doubt anyone could have tasted the difference. It was easy to use, cooks just like ground beef and was perfect for my dish. I'm not yet ready to dive in to all things vegan but I happy to see, and taste, that I have options. Great product!

Refrigerate Overnight After Hydration for Great Texture
I made the soup recipe listed on the packaging. I used the Better Than Bouillon vegetable base, veggies, pasta, and unflavored chunks. The soup was delicious and the now flavored chunks were also delicious but very spongy, I thought Meh and put it in the refrigerator. The next day I tried the soup again and it seemed that the proteins has set up overnight and had a great texture. I was impressed with the chunks and intend on trying different recipes. I am not a vegetarian, so I will also try some meat flavorings as well. I intend on hydrating different flavors and keeping them in the refrigerator as indicated on the product packaging. Storage of this dried product is very convenient.

Worst Plant Based Protein Ever
I've used other companies Soy Curls & TVP with great results, so I was happy to try a different shape. I ordered the Plant Basics' Hearty Plant Protein Chunks which I felt like I could use for soups or other recipes that typically call for cubed pieces of "meat". I followed the directions for rehydrating them (which is about 2-5 minutes longer than other similar products). Then I used them in my recipe & everything seemed great til I tried to bite into it. The texture was extremely rubbery. I feel like I would've had better results using the old school block pencil erasers. I tried returning them which wasn't allowed since it was an opened food product but then I reached out to Plant Basics through 2 different platforms (here & IG) and I still never heard back from them. Since it's been over a month I decided to at least try to save others from running into this same issue. My suggestion is to buy Butler Soy Curls & Bob's Red Mill TVP

great texture
After using TPVs in granular form, I found some soy based in chunks from a different brand. All powder and bad smell.First thing I noticed is this product has no odor. I gave it a three for taste as it is neutral. Also no powder content, thus high quality. All other ratings 5!.I tried as a salad crisp along with another brand I am trying. This product is a little more crunchy which is nice . After hydrating and pan cooking with vegies, it is a little less tender, but still goodAlso, This may be a substitute for nuts for snacking.. gives me crunch with higher protein and less calories.Good product, a bit pricy, but will re buy

Softens up in water or any liquid.
These little hard fluffy lumps soften up nicely in just a few minutes in water. I put a third of a cup of them in my oatmeal in the morning for a nice protein boost. They really don’t taste like much of anything, but I put a lot of good stuff in my oatmeal. They do have a very pleasant chewy mouth feel.It is expensive at $16 a pound.I was just at the health food store and bought some textured soy protein for six dollars a pound. I haven’t tried it yet, but I think it will do the job in my oatmeal.

Delicious, filling, and easy
I’m not a vegan, but I prefer to have these when I cook a dinner for myself. It’s very easy to flavor these as chicken or beef, and then add a sauce. The texture is very similar to chicken, but you can use these in any meat meal. I also like that it’s more filling than meats. The only down side is that you need to add these at the end of your dish, so you can’t let them simmer in a sauce for a very long time, or else they will break down into a paste.
