Prime-Line U 9912 Keyed Chain Door Guard, 3-1/4 In., Steel and Diecast Construction, Brite Brass-Plated Finish (Single Pack)

I bought this mainly as child-proofing in response to my 2 year old's knack for unlocking deadbolts and opening doors. My wife and I wanted something to bar the door without one of us needing to get to the door to let the other in each time one of us leaves. This chain lock was exactly what we needed. This thing is sturdy, solid metal and heavy. For a chain lock I feel this is as good as they come. Installation was 5 minutes, most difficult part was drilling holes into the metal sheathing on the door. The keyhole is located at the top of the lock and works by inserting your hand through the space in the door, (About 3-4 inch gap), and inserting the small padlock key. This is a bit tricky, as the lock is right up next to the wall. Once unlocked, gravity does the rest with the heavy chain dropping out the bottom of the lock to rest against the inside of the door. This comes with 2 padlock keys, and while I haven't had too much issue the cut does not appear to be a perfect fit. I have to work the key a second or two longer than I should to get it into the lock. Still, no real issues here, but would prefer a smoother cut key than this. I'm not sure I'd be able to make copies of these that would work in the lock. Overall, I'm pleased with the weight and security of this door chain and the functionality of being able to enter without needing to be let in.

This item has been a godsend for me. I moved into an apartment complex where they have random individuals entering your home at any time; although they are supposed to be maintenance. I have asked several times for them to give proper notice, as well as another notice when they leave, but that has not occured. I live alone, and I also have my valuables in my home. I considered getting an alarm system with my cable company, but did not want the additional expense. A friend suggested this to me, and I am more than happy with the level of security I have since getting it. It was easy to install, and its easy to use. If anyone tries to enter while I am gone, they will be stopped at the door immediately. Needless to say, the random visits have decreased and they now have to wait for me to be home when I enter. So grateful for the piece of mind.

It was easy to mount but the chain can be pushed out of the slot from the outside with the key lock engaged. I put a large nail in the release slot for the chain. I can only open it with the key now but it provides the added security I was looking for.

Extra security, no way to bypass it unless you break the door jam. That noise would be heard by your neighs or you if you’re inside.

When you leave an apartment for the day, you usually have no way to use a chain for that little extra security, especially if you live in a building where they have your key. This is a great solution as you can lock the chain and reopen it from the outside. It is very solid and I had a worker install it using larger and better screws. You can install it yourself but I do suggest using proper largest possible screws for your molding type. Measure the height you want it as well as the clearance and distance from the chain to the lock before you install it of course. Very clever that the change has a place to put the catch if you are in and not using it. You can use this from the inside keeping it locked and using the other side of the chain to latch and unlatch. Good solution.

Good quality and gets the job done. I added this as an extra layer of protection and it works well. It was easy to install.

I had no idea that these existed with keys! I haven't been able to install or use a chain in the past few years as it prevents landlords from entering in an emergency. But with this key mechanism, and giving them a key they can get in. I only plan to use it as traditional chains are used, and don't plan to use it when I leave, but knowing that I have that option is neat. Knowing that it is not a device to "secure" your home, the length of screws it comes with makes it slightly more secure. I foster large dogs and the chain is great for signing for a package without having to manage them from trying to see who is there and pushing the door open more with their nose or body. Also, having health issues that could result in a medical emergency where I could not open the door, having a key available for an emergency contact, or lock box saves the cost of having to replace your door and door frame when a fireman kicks it in! This product is one that balances security with accessibility perfectly. It is heavy weight, ans has a beautiful quality finish. Chain length is perfect for sinking those screws in the sturdy door frame.

This bronze latch is a nice item and very hefty. The only issue I have with this is that the key doesn't turn back to it's original place after releasing the chain, so in order to replace the chain and have it connect is to turn the key back myself and sometimes I have to hold the chain in at the same time. I think this was defective unit to start with. I bought three white sets and all of them work as described.

I absolutely love this keyed chain lock. I noticed in the reviews that most people complained about the screws being crappy. They were just fine. I drilled a pilot hole first and put some vaseline (or WD40) on the screw to help it screw into the door frame easier. I live in an apartment and he whole product is strong and heavy weight. Nobody is getting in this door!! Thank you for making me feel safe for the first time in 2 yrs.
