Gilmore Girls: Season 1

Oh, Gilmore! *sigh* You were so young! Let's start this off with a statement: I am a GIGANTIC Gilmore fan. GIGANTIC! I've watched this show since I was 15 years old, so I feel as if I've grown up with it and its characters. This is the very first season. Rory is an innocent, inexperienced little one (yes, I'm getting sentimental even though Rory is a year or two older than I am). Lorelai is still working at the Independence Inn and, of course, looking for a man (which she does basically throughout the series. Luke forever! Okay. I'll stop, ha), dealing with her parents, and caring for the love of her life: Her daughter, Rory, whom she had at the age of 16, which created a myriad of problems between her and her parents, Emily and Richard Gilmore. The first season of the show revolves around Rory and Lorelai's relationship, their loves lives, and their outside school/working lives. Rory enrolls into Chilton, an esteemed prep school, and she meets a group of girls including the sarcastic Paris Gellar. Lorelai is working at her Inn with her best friend, Chef Sookie, and rude but funny as hell Michel. The show is also infused with the goings on of Stars Hollow (where Lorelai and Rory live), which happens to be a town I would die to live in with people I would die to call my friends. The townies are hilarious. Luke, who owns the local diner, is just beyond words awesome. And if you don't end up wanting Luke and Lorelai together by the first season...you are basically not good. Haha. Just playing. The show also has the Gilmore (aka: the rich world Lorelai left at 16) world alongside the Stars Hollow world. It is filled with Friday Night Dinners, fancy parties hosted by Emily, and enough guilt and resentment to make anyone become a coffee addict like Lorelai Gilmore. The writing is so great thanks to Amy Sherman-Palladino, Daniel Palladino, and other writers. The show has such heart, charm, and wit. The characters are the best I've ever seen on any television show. The performances are all great - especially Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore) and Kelly Bishop's (Emily Gilmore). Scott Patterson (Luke Danes) is also great throughout the series, but never receives the credit he should. But do remember, I'm a GIGANTIC fan, so I could be bias. Basically...watch the damn show. If you don't like it, something is wrong with you. Just joking.

Gilmore Girls is one of the best written shows on TV. The loveable characters will draw you in and provide a great viewing experience for the whole family. Watching this show is like eating a big of your favorite potato chips with dip (except that Mrs. Kim would approve of the show.) The packaging, episode guide booklet and navigational menus pay tribute to the character oriented nature of the show by featuring largely unseen publicity shots of the characters. Upon insertion, the DVDs bring up to the main menu quickly and none of them include mandatory commercials. Menu navigation is clean and simple. The main menu has the typical repetitious music which, no matter how charming it is the first time, quickly becomes irksome. The rest of the menus are mercifully mute. The menu easily allows all episodes on the disk to be played straight through as well as allowing individual episode and chapter selection. Unlike DVD sets from some other shows, the only chapter points are at commercial breaks. This is a shame because it's the little moments that really make Gilmore Girls special. Adding more chapters to make individual scenes more accessible would have been a simple way to add value to this set. Another omission is the ability to skip the "previously on Gilmore Girls" recaps which are common, especially in later seasons. Hopefully these things will be corrected in future sets. The set doesn't include any audio commentaries. Future sets probably won't either since WB won't pay anyone to do them and the actors involved are to high a caliber to donate their time to making someone else rich. The "making-of" special includes interviews with the actors, producers Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, and the director of the pilot. It is nice if for no other reason than to put faces with the names that appear in the writing credits for so many episodes. "Gilmore goodies and gossip" is basically the episode "Rory's Dance" with pop-up video type background on the actors and explanations of the various references. "Gilmore-isms" is a collage of some of the shows crazy references. "Deleted scenes" consists of scenes cut from 3 different episodes. They are poorly prefaced and give the impression that they were added just so that the studio could advertise the set as having deleted scenes. In summery: the price is steep and the extras are few but, as with all good shows, the episodes themselves are the selling point that really matters. I recommend this show to everyone.

J'ai découvert la 1ière saison de la série en 2003 (été de la cannicule), lorsque France 2 a eu la bonne idée de diffusé cette magnifique série. Cela tombé bien, puisque suivait sur TF1, la sitcom "Will & Grace". Je me suis alors pris de passion pour cette histoire, cette mère et sa fille avec seulement 16 ans de différence... Tout ça pour dire que lorsque j'ai voulu innitié ma mère (réfractère aux séries télé nouvelle génération) aux séries, j'ai d'abord commencer par ma préférée : Buffy the Vampire Slayer; et là ce fut le drame. Elle n'a pas accrocher du tout. Quelques années plus tard, lorsque la 1ière saison de Gilmore Girls sortait en DVD, je me précipitais avec ma carte de crédit pour l'acheter et faire découvrir cette magnifique série à ma mère qui loin d'être blazée, a finalement accrochée, adhérait, adorait tout simplement. Tout ça pour dire, que malgré un "pitch" de base qui peut paraître innintéressant, la série finit par vous scotchez à votre télé et laissera à coups sur des marques ds vos esprits !!! Une série à voir, à revoir, à offrir. N'hésitez plus ! Félicitons également la créatrice du show : Amy Sherman-Palladino; pour son travaille. Si mes souvenirs sont bons, dans les bonus de la saison 1, Amy Sherman-Palladino explique comment; avec son mari Daniel Palladino qui travaille à ses côtés sur la série; elle a proposer un sujet de série à la WB (chaîne qui diffusait la série aux USA [entre 2000 & 2007]) qui ne les a absolument pas convaincus; et qu'en un week-end seulement est née le concept et la série a succés que l'ont connaient.

-Die Handlung- Mit 16 wurde Lorelai Gilmore schwanger. Ihre konservativen Eltern, Richard und Emily, waren davon alles andere als begeistert. Die drei lebten ohnehin schon länger mit Konflikten weil Lorelai sich nicht in die von ihren Eltern erdachten Formen pressen lassen wollte. So verließ sie also schwanger ihr Elternhaus und zug einige Kilometer weiter nach Stars Hollow, wo sie in einem Hotel, dem Independence Inn Unterschlupf fand. 16 Jahre später arbeitet Lorelai als Geschäftsführerin in eben diesem Hotel und hat sich in Stars Hollow niedergelassen. Ihre Tochter Rory ist ihre beste Freundin und die beiden sind glücklich mit ihrem Leben in der Kleinstadt und mit ihren Freunden,zu denen unter anderem Luke, der Besitzer des örtlichen Diners, und Sookie, die Küchenchefin des Independece Inn, gehören. Dazu kommen noch mehr teils schräge und teils lustige Bewohner des kleinen Städtchens. Ein Problem tritt erst auf, als Rory von der Privatschule Chilton aufgenommen wird. Für Mutter und Tochter geht ein Traum in Erfüllung, denn Rory wünscht sich nach Harvard gehen zu können und Lorelai möchte ihrer Tochter diesen Traum erfüllen. Problem hierbei ist jedoch, dass sich Lorelai das Schulgeld nicht leisten kann. Nach einigen Nachdenken bleibt nur eine Lösung. Sie muss ihre Eltern bitten, das Schulgeld für Rory zu bezahlen. Emily ist zunächst gekränkt, da sie gerne an Rorys Heranwachsen beteiligt wäre, dies jedoch bisher wegen ihres schlechten Verhältnisses zu Lorelai nicht möglich war. Daher verlangt sie als Bedingung für das Schulgeld, dass Rory und Lorelai fortan jeden Freitag zu den Großeltern zum Essen kommen... Mehr von der Handlung im Einzelnen möchte ich jetzt nicht verraten, um keine Dinge vorweg zu nehmen. Nur einige Hinweise: Natürlich spielt auch Liebe eine Rolle, denn Lorelai hat noch nicht den richtigen Mann für's Leben gefunden und bei Rory erwachen romantische Gefühle zum ersten Mal. -Das Besondere an den GILMORES- Das wirklich besondere an der Serie sind die Dialoge. Sie sind witzig und sprítzig und bringen einen ständig zum lachen. Vor allem Lorelai ist sehr schlagfertig und hat immer einen flotten Spruch auf den Lippen. Ab und an schlägt dies auch bei ihrer Tochter durch und auch Emily kann sich, Etikette hin oder her, manchmal nicht zurückhalten, sodass man doch erkennt dass es eine Familie ist *g* Desweiteren beeindruckend ist auch die Beziehung von Rory und Lorelai. Dass Mutter und Tochter beste Freundinnen sind ist ja nicht unbedingt alltäglich, doch die Beziehung der beiden ist sehr realistisch dargestellt. Trotz ihrer Freundschaft streiten sie sich auch mal wie Mutter und Tochter und häufig macht sich Lorelai auch Sorgen um ih Kind. Nicht außer Acht lassen sollte man an dieser Stelle die Beziehung von Emily und ihrer Tochter Lorelai. Sie ist sehr problematisch und bleibt es größtenteils auch im Laufe der Serie. Dennoch merkt man auch häufig, dass Emily durchaus an ihrer Tochter interessiert ist und sich wünschte dass es anders wäre. Davon abgesehen gibt es natürlich noch viele viele weitere Besonderheiten and er Serie, zum Beispiel auch welch positives und sympathisches Bild einer Kleinstadt sie zeigt. Besonders interessant sind natürlich auch die Hintergründe. Amy Sherman-Palladino erzählt, wie sie die Idee zur Serie hatte und wie sie letzendlich dann entstanden ist. Problem ist allerdings, dass die Doku nicht synchronisiert wurde und sich, zumindest bei mir, auch kein Untertitel einstellen ließ. Kann an meiner Unfähigkeit liegen, kann aber auch sein dass kein Untertital vorhanden ist (die Box selbst gibt dazu keine Information). Daher sollte man ein paar Englisch-Kenntnisse mitbringen, aber schwer zu verstehen sidn die Interviews nicht. **Interessante Details und Klatsch zu "Kopfüber in die Nacht"** In dieser Folge ging es um einen Schulball, auf den Rory mit Dean gegangen ist. In diesem Special erfährt man also weiteres zu dieser Folge und ihrem Entstehen. **Gilmore-ismen*** Ein interessanter Titel für ein Special. Hier geht es um die Wortspielereien der Gilmore Girls. Wie ich ja bereits geschrieben habe sind vor allem Lorelai und ihre Tochter sehr schlagfertig und hier bekommt man quasi ein best of ihrer Sprüche geliefert. **Zusätzliche Szenen** Szenen, die in die eigentlichen Fassungen der Folgen nicht aufgenommen wurden. -DVD-Qualität- Die DVDs laufen auch nach mehrmaligem Schauen tadellos, kein Rauschen im Ton, klare Bilder. Für jahrelange Nutzung also zu empfehlen. -Fazit- Insgesamt kann man sagen, dass die erste Staffel der Gilmore Girls einiges an Specials hergibt, wesentlich mehr als man auf anderen Serien-Boxen finden kann! Vor allem sind die Specials auch wirklich sehenswert, wenn auch teilweise nicht mit Untertiteln, was dann wirklich stören kann. Bild- und Tonqualität der Folgen an sich sind sehr gut und jede Folge ist in 6 Kapitel eingeteilt. Von außen muss man sage, sieht die Box eher unspektakulär aus, als Thema wurde wohl der Herbst gewählt, denn die Hauptfarbe ist bräunlich und die Fotos erinnern sehr an den Herbst.

Piacevole, ironico, rilassante. E' veramente una serie televisiva bella e pulita da vedere. Uno spaccato di vita che emoziona e commuove, diverte e, secondo me, è anche molto educativo. Una vera lezione di vita per tanti adolescenti ed i relativi genitori. Non ci sono volgarità, parole non adatte, tutto scorre piacevolmente, la storia ti prende, ti avvolge, ti cattura. Come nel titolo: BELLISSIMO !!!
