My new favorite knife
This is a great little knife. I chose the yellow H-1 steel model because I am regularly in saltwater conditions and was tired of my knives rusting. This is my 2nd H-1 blade by Spyderco, I also own the Pacific Salt which is a much larger knife. My experience with H-1 steel has been great; it has proven to be rustproof and has stayed sharp. The blade of the Dragonfly 2 came razor sharp, probably the sharpest blade I've ever had on a brand new knife. The textured grip on the handle is excellent and provides a solid grip even when wet. This knife is large enough to be useful and small & light enough to be taken almost anywhere. This is a fantastic knife, I only wish they offered the H-1 blade in more color options. Thinking about picking up another one for when I am not around water. Photos are for size comparison between the Pacific Salt, Swiss Army Knife, Dragonfly 2, mini Swiss Army Knife

All of the variations are great - this one
This is an exceptional EDC knife in so many ways, I'll simply say do any kind of search you want and you'll read the raving reviews it deserves. If you only ever buy one pocketknife, or one Spyderco, make it a Dragonfly 2. All of the variations are great - this one, the H-1 steel, is wonderful for its willingness to perform in any condition / scenario without concern for corrosion. If you haven't seen one before in person, you *will* find it to be smaller than expected - but don't let the size fool you... This knife cuts like a big one. I do want to provide a cautionary tale for purchasers, however: On receiving yours, take a wary look. The first one I received had all of the glaring issues below: * Knife was loose in its box. New Spyderco knives are always shipped in a bubble liner in their box. Could have been a change in practice, but raised a flag. * Blade had a lot of sideplay / wobble. New Spyderco knives generally have zero, or close to it. Raised a flag again. * Blade was very dull. I have yet to see a new Spyderco knife that can't breeze through the 'paper' test like it's water, with most being able to shave the hairs off your arm out of the box. This one barely tore it. Another flag. * Orange (!) FRN handles. What we anticipate the actual product to look like might not be 100% what we get. But if it doesn't look remotely yellow... Running out of room on my Caveat Emptor flagpole. * Rust. If you're buying whose blade is made of H-1 steel, and there's rust on the blade, that doesn't just raise a flag - it's like looking up when visiting the United Nations. No chance that blade was just used - it was flat out counterfeit. That was a purchase shipped and sold by Amazon, and it was clearly a knockoff product, but I am confident that Amazon would never intentionally sell or provide counterfeit goods. My best guess as to what happened is that someone ordered a new H-1, then 'returned it' but actually sent back a counterfeit in its place, which was passed along to me. On my contacting Amazon, they were 100% helpful in providing a return shipping label for its return, and they sent out a replacement next-day. The replacement is everything I expected from Spyderco, and I keep it confidently in my pocket awaiting it's next call-to-duty.

Very Nice Pocket Knife!
This is the knife I take with me everywhere. Just the right size, weight, & design for those everyday tasks like box opening or to cut that stray garment string. Clip holds it securely in your pocket. Blade locks out very positively with not even a worry about it accidentally closing in use. Blade is tight side to side and up and down. Texture on the handle is very grippy and done well. Can even open it one handed with the thumb engaged in the hole in the top of the blade. Arrived sharp and has been holding its edge so far. No signs of any corrosion but I do tend to wipe off the blade after every use. Would buy again and recommend to others. Mine was genuine and not a knock off that others have reported. Good EDC (every day carry) knife.

Light, H1 steel, yellow, great EDC knife
I use it as my EDC knife. It's fantastic. I love the H1 steel and using it out on the water. It comes razor sharp and it's not difficult to sharpen. In my opinion, it's the perfect EDC knife with a small blade length that is more than enough for all EDC needs. Highly recommended. The only downfall is its edge retention which is not rated highly but unless you're using it every day, it shouldn't be a problem. Plus, it's easy to sharpen so it's fine.

Nice knife, with one caveat...
I like this knife, it's well-built and will perform. The only thing I didn't realize from pics is that the yellow is not "as bright" in person as you might expect from the photos. I think it's due to the design of the texture on the handle, but the yellow does not appear to be "super bright" in person. On top of that, when the knife gets dirty, it could be hard to clean because of the little nooks and crannies in the handle. If I had known that in advance, I probably would have gotten a different color instead. Everything else about the knife is great - very lightweight, yet strong, and a very solid and sharp blade. A lot of ability for such a small knife. I actually JUST received a Spyderco Dragonfly Tattoo, which has the same dimensions as this knife, but it has a stainless steel handle instead of resin. And its blade steel is different. This yellow Dragonfly 2 Salt has the "H1" steel, which is supposed to be impervious to rust, if that's important to you. I like the Dragonfly Tattoo a LOT, so you might want to take a look at that one too.

My favorite knife
I've gone through a ton of knives over a long period of time looking for my perfect knife. I haven't found the "perfect knife" yet, but I have settled on a favorite that I don't foresee replacing. I live in Massachusetts where knife carry laws are much more reasonable than those of our neighbors in RI. My town borders with RI and on an average day that I leave the house, I travel through Rhode Island, or into Rhode Island for several reasons several times a day. I also frequently have to visit a doctor in Boston. In Boston, knife laws are even harsher. I don't carry a knife for self defense, so I don't mind carrying a shorter bladed knife. I use a knife as a tool several times a day.. so in the past the concern I've had with smaller knives that are short enough to carry legally in Boston, has been whether they are as capable as the larger knives for every task I carry a knife for. The first problem with a lot of knives with blades 2.5" or shorter is simply the build quality. A lot of manufacturers simply treat small knives as if they shouldn't be expected to be as capable as a larger knife. The blade may be too thin, they may suffer from poor materials or poor build quality, the lock that keeps the blade open may be weak(which is dangerous), or the knife just may not be strong enough for the user to feel comfortable applying a good deal of pressure while cutting. I've found a few short folding knives that fulfill my need for a short enough blade for Boston(2.5" or less) and also don't suffer from the above common short knife problems.. and if I knew I'd be going to Boston one day, I would make sure to bring one of them with me.. but if I wasn't going to Boston I wouldn't touch them. I would go immediately to my SpyderCo Caly3.. those knives were still missing something that I was only willing to do without to obey the law. That something is a sturdy grip. short knives have short handles, and often in an effort to make the knife more compact, the handles are designed in strange shapes that are uncomfortable during use. You don't want to be using a knife for any serious task that you can't get a firm grip on. A knife should feel sturdy in the hand, and most short bladed knives just don't. This one does. When I first picked one of these up, it was a Christmas gift for my brother. I was shocked that despite it's small size, it felt just as comfortable in my hand as any of my larger knives, including my former favorite knife.. the Caly3. Nowadays I usually carry this knife, the Dragonfly2. I can carry it anywhere I go, including Boston, and I don't have to worry about poor craftsmanship, blade lock failure, poor quality blade steel, or getting stuck with a handle that's awkward to use. This is a small, extremely light, extremely portable, but extremely tough, and quite formidable tool. It's built to the same quality standards as any other spyderco knife, and is just as strong, sharp, sturdy, and comfortable to use. This is the first tiny knife I've owned that doesn't suffer from the many shortcomings I've been stuck dealing with when I travel somewhere with ridiculous knife laws. Because it lacks those shortcomings, I can enjoy the advantages of a smaller knife: it's light and it's tiny, you can clip it in your pocket and forget you have it with you. In addition to being super portable, it's extremely low profile. You won't have people gawking at your bulging pocket or asking why you're carrying a knife, because this thing hides really well despite it's yellow plastic handle. The wire clip is great for the same reasons. Finally this knife has one more added advantage: it's rust proof. I've never had a knife rust upvon me but there is something cool about knowing I can rely on this one never to do that. Dragonfly2 has everything I've ever looked for in a pocket knife, with the additional advantage of being waterproof. It's unlikely I'll come across a knife that I prefer over this one for a very long time. If I had to give up all of my knives, including the very nice fancy expensive ones, I would choose this one. It's too practical to go back to life without it.

Amazing, compact knife
There are more than a few small Spyderco blades in our house at this point, and this is far and above my favorite small knife. The rust-proof and improves-as-you-use-it H1 steel, Spyderco quality, one-hand open and shut movement, and tight clip make this a great blade regardless of its size. We own dozens of Spyderco (and Byrd) knives and have never been disappointed, and the H1 knives are especially useful in maritime or wet environments whether you are fishing, hunting, sailing, or just enjoying the outdoors. Most recently, I ordered this Spyderco Dragonfly2 for my mother who is in her 60s because she has recently begun going on major hiking and backpacking trips with her friends. She is not the kind of person who is comfortable with big/heavy knives, and is unlikely to clean or maintain any knife beyond wiping or rinsing. This has been perfect for her because of the compact blade size, razor-sharp rust-proof steel, and generally fantastic functionality -- but I would recommend it to any outdoors enthusiast.

A Fast Favorite
Excellent little knife, H1 took a surprisingly good edge and has held it over the past week of fairly heavy use. Knife locks up very tight with no play horizontally or vertically. This is no self defense knife, but it is perfect for anyone who wants to have a knife for small cutting tasks and needs to be able to pull it out in front of anyone without raising alarm. Commonly a knife this small suffers from major design flaws and they never last. This knife is true to Spyderco's name and is very well made and the only way I can see it being replaced is if I lose it. Other short knives don't feel as secure as this one does in the hand, Spyderco tackled this issue with the jimping on the top and bottom of the rear portion of the blade. This lets you choke up on the knife so to speak and safely get as close as possible to the cutting edge for increased control. On top of all of these excellent features, this blade is rust proof and will require very little maintenance except for occasionally touching up the edge.

Spyderco Dragonfly 2 Salt PE Geel, Gelb
