The Unlikely Hero
This set is absolutely wonderful. Despite a disc defect that will be addressed, this collection presents a look at the little studio that could, and assembles some of its greatest examples of the unlikely hero. The packaging is awesome. I love the vista fold-out, the raised gold print and borders, the beautifully uniform sleeves for each movie, just everything about this set.I'm taking these in chronological order, and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is truly captivating. It looks great for black and white. HDR really makes the senate full of black suits reading the paper at their desks contrast in detailed clarity. The spotlight feature in this collection, Lawrence of Arabia, with its Dolby Vision color grading, and its cinematic track, presented in Atmos, though I experienced 5.1 so far, is a spectacle to behold. I've never seen this era look so brilliant on films, almost as if it was new. The color looks so fresh; the deepest of reds, the most vibrant of blues, and colorful purples. It's a new film for me, and I absolutely loved it. It is a most beautiful film.A beautifully assembled book of details is included. I read the intro, and will save the individual film material for after my initial viewing. Includes details on the movies, and the restoration process. It's wonderful.I will probably update after having gone through all six films, but I am savoring these films one by one, as the majority I have passed up on television viewing, as I have for many films, in anticipation of a worthy format. Blu-ray opened the floodgates for many films I had never seen before, but 4K UltraHD with its variants of High Dynamic Range, leaves no excuse to hold off on any of the films that are put in its specifications. They're all beautiful, and compelling in their unique ways.I love my Colombia Classics 4K UltraHD Blu-ray Limited Edition Collection.

Excellent 4k transfers
I have only watched Lawrence of Arabia and Dr. Strangelove so far but I have to say I am impressed. The quality of Lawrence of Arabia is spectacular, which is not surprising given that the original 65mm negative used for the transfer theoretically translates to 8k resolution. The same cannot be said for Dr. Strangelove--we know the original 35mm negative was destroyed so the transfer process must have been a lot more challenging. There is notable graininess in some scenes, particularly the outdoor battles at the military base but overall, this is by far the finest quality Dr Strangelove you can get at present.I also like the included booklet, it gives a lot nice information about each film and the restoration process involved in the 4k transfers. Sure, there are 2 filler films but the other 4 are more than worth the overall price. Very good collection, I wish we had more like this. Highly recommended.

Could not have done a better job on Lawrence
Lawrence of Arabia in 4k Vision/Atmos is worth the hundred bucks by itself.I've been waiting for this to come out for years. Lawrence is the reason I own a big TV. There is a 4k streaming version on Amazon, but it doesn't compare to the sharpness or the rich colors of hard media. The Dolby Vision is significantly more revealing than HDR10; details do not get lost in the shadows. Skin colors are more vibrant. Colors more saturated. The sound track has been reworked. There's some slamming LFE effects now, totally took me off guard. And they utilized the height channels frequently. I expected a perfunctory Atmos track, not this masterpiece. They gave this film the effort it deserves. Exceeded my expectations, which were pretty high. Also the construction of the box set is quite nice. Very high quality. Whoever made this loves movies.I haven't watched any of the other films yet. I'm not bothered by the mix mash. Lawrence was so good I don't care.I hope they make more of these sets.

LOA Correction Arrived
For some reason, I had never seen Lawrence of Arabia till about 6 months ago. I don’t think of David Lean or Peter O’Toole the same since. A worthy sacrifice of their time and efforts that will affect and influence for generations to come. I bought the set primarily for this movie. I’ve just finished watching what I could. I look forward to Sony fixing the issue of missing extras. Coincidentally Turner Classic just broadcast the film this weekend. I decided to record it in hi def and compare it to the 4K. The first difference was huge. The sound was Much better on the disc. Of course the 4K picture was superior but perhaps as a result of the restoration or perhaps the cameras or lighting, some scenes were better and brighter than others. I will update with additional info as I watch it. I think Dr. Strangelove is next up. BTW, packaging is superior. I may change to 5 stars when Sony takes care of the problem and the other movies stand up (although I don’t believe it could be as good as LOA.Update: Just watched Dr Strangelove. 4K version froze at 1:07.17 occasionally skipping to a few frames until it stabilized at about the 1:10 mark. Not good timing. Missed some critical parts. On the quality of the movie. Some scenes were clearer than others. I suspect a result of the source material. It’s a great movie. Still stands up. I changed my rating from 4 stars down to 3. I’m curious if others have the issue. This had all the potential of being a 5 star set and it’s heading in the wrong direction. Will update laterUpgraded rating 4 stars. Received the correction for LOA. Just started watching. So far, so great. Sony did communicate regarding the Dr Strangelove 4K but hasn’t done anything yet. I watched League of their own. Decent movie The extras included 3 episodes of the TV show. Horrible! Working on Mr Smith but will finish watching the LOA extras.
