Good, but not easy.
I like this product. It burns hot, clean and long. However, it is tricky to get going evenly. I found using a chimney, stacking the logs vertically, and using a torch helps get the coals going evenly which yields the best results. Otherwise the coals seem to not want to catch and you end up with some that catch, some that take 40 minutes to get going, and your coals are never really ready. Also, it’s not as much coal as it appears. You may have more burn time than standard charcoal, but the logs are dense and heavy. For just cooking a meal for 2, it’s not economical, but it is good quality.

Great even burn!
Wow, never used coconut charcoal before but I don’t think i’ll be going back to hardwood anytime soon. It takes a little longer to light than traditional lump wood but I love the even burn. Smells great too. This product seems very pure and well made as well.

Great Burn & Mild Taste
Normally I'm a Big Green Egg cooker and use big natural lump, but recently got an Hibachi for smaller quicker meals; this meant I needed a smaller, more regular, and more even cooking fuel source. This looked like a good option and so I tried it. Summary: Really good product at a reasonable price, but slow to start (I DO NOT use starter fluid...). Pros: - Nice clean long slow consistent burn (in part due to the hole through the middle design) - Mild smokey taste on food w/o being overwhelming - Easy to manage and arrange with the hexagonal shape - Very little remaining ash (indicative of the clean thorough burn) Cons: - Hard slow start (again - I don't use starter fluid, so it may be easier that way); I now use a bit of regular lump at the center to get these going) - Would like to be able to buy a bigger bag at a better price point - A bit "stinky" when burning; not bad, but different than any other wood / charcoal smoke you might be used to. I was originally concerned the smell would translate into the food, but it doesn't - actually has a nice slightly buttery / mile smoky flavor (more mild than Apple for instance - not at all acrid).

Good burn and doesn't fall apart for the next cook
Edit - creates a lot of ash. Also takes forever to get started. Dropping a star. This is an interesting lump charcoal. Has a really good even heat - better than a standard lump. Stuff is also really dense! Feels like my plastic pail weighs twice as much with this product in it compared to Royal Oak, Because it is so dense, it takes about twice as long to get lit and ready for cooking than standard lump - need to give it a bit more time. Only ding (other than light time - if that matters to you, is it comes in a bag, in a box and then in another box. Would be great if the could reduce packaging.

Maybe i am doing something wrong, but this is awful.
I can’t tell you how terrible this charcoal is. But I’ll try. Its almost impossible to light. I use a Kamado Joe, so naturally i stick to lump. Intrigued buy the description—which says good for ceramic grills—i purchased. 3 times i tried to get it lit. I used some tumbleweeds that i always use for my lump. 3 of them. I come back 15 minutes later and nothing. I tried a propane torch for about 5 minutes and i kid you not, barely any gray ash appears. Still mostly black. I repeated this two other nights—once with about 10 tumble weeds, and once with a chimney packed full of oak chunks. Both times nothing. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I’m willing to admit i may have missed some instructions somewhere. But i can assure you i have been grilling for over 20 years. So I am somewhat proficient at starting a grill

Perfection
Long, hot burn with a most delightful flavour. Yes, please!!! Do it. Follow the instructions - use an electrical coil to start.

Chef’s dream!
I bought this charcoal for my grill (big green egg) because I needed a nice dense fuel for controlled long burns. It did not disappoint! Straight out of the box, the density of the coal was obvious from the weight of each log. As one would expect from such a dense fuel, it took a little more effort to light than your average coal. But once it got started, the heat was even and and controllable. My rib eye roast got the low and slow treatment and turned out fall-off-the-bone delicious.
