Very fun and economical gouache!
This paint set is really unusual, but Iโm beginning to really like it. I am a college educated (with a painting degree) professional artist. I have been recently getting into surface design and most of my work ends up getting scanned. Iโve taken color theory classes and this review is for those who are looking for a professional quality gouache set. I love the value presented here. This set comes out to have approximately each color for about a dollar at the time of my writing. Thatโs a crazy deal! I mainly have used Windsor and Newton gouache in the past, which runs about $20 a tube. Not only that, but each of these compartments has more paint than one W&N tube. So this set really ran me a tiny bit more than a single tube of paint. Iโm really happy about that. Is it the same quality as Windsor and Newton? No. The mixing is not as consistent and predictable, and the pigments are weaker. But honestly, to me these are a great trade off. Itโs still absolutely possible to make beautiful and vibrant paintings with this paint, itโs just important to keep in mind which colors are more opaque and which are more sheer or transparent. I went on ahead and swatched each color for this review. I have black bars on each to give you an idea how transparent or opaque each color is- whether the paint can overpower the black. I also added water to thin it down, so you can see how the colors look with more of a watercolor feel. The main colors I noted for having the worst opacity are the oranges. However if you add a little white to them, it helps a ton to thicken it up and make it more opaque. This set also builds on itself beautifully, so if I have to do a second coat on four colors, Iโm okay with that. Most of the time Iโll be mixing more opaque colors in with them anyway- I expect most artists will feel similarly. This paint is thirsty!! It loves water, and Iโve been pretty impressed at how much water it can take while staying opaque. I personally would not use this paint to simulate watercolors, because a big factor with watercolors is spread, and this paint stays put. Thatโs perfectly fine, itโs a feature and not a bug for gouache. Expect to use a lot of water with this set! I heard someone on YouTube say that they put a spray bottle with distilled water with this set, and they spray it down before sealing it up. I think itโs a fantastic idea, but I havenโt done this yet and just sealing this set with the palette included gets a tight enough seal that it hasnโt dried out once. Iโm pretty impressed and have never encountered a paint set that reacts this way. I would compare the lid to a Tupperware lid- it snaps shut. Be sure to also put the white mixing palette in for a good tight seal. I thought maybe the palette would get tons of paint on it when I closed the lid, but actually that has somehow never happened. Itโs a feat of engineering for sure. Compared to other sets of this goache on Amazon I picked this one specifically for the white mixing palette. Iโd rather mix exclusively on white or grey. And the mint green case is really cute, with a beautiful velvet texture on the box that makes me excited to use it every time. I also included a few pictures of a painting I made with this set. I was frustrated to not know how this set looks close up from other reviews, so I hope this helps. One picture is of a light table with the paint, then the others are close ups to get an idea of the thickness and surface texture, and finally a scan. Itโs really important to me that a paint dries flat enough to be scanned well. So Iโve also included a scan of a painting with these pictures so you can get a good idea of how it looks. Iโm a perfectionist and Iโm happy with it. I recommend that you use hot press watercolor paper or Bristol with this paint. I hope this helps anyone considering this set. Iโm psyched to keep using it for my work.

Worth the price!!
I have never tried professional gouache, so I don't have much to compare this product to. While the paint quality of this palette probably is much more student than artist grade, it's pretty good. And definitely for the money, it's REALLY pretty good. There's a good color selection, and the paint itself IS mostly opaque unless you really thin it down. I cannot speak to how long-lasting or colorfast this product is, but I would say you should adjust your expectations to the price point accordingly. This palette would be GREAT for beginners at gouache, which is what I am. The jelly cup concept is one I'm unfamiliar with, but it does seem to work pretty well. You HAVE to open all the containers at once, though, if you're actually going to paint, because it makes a real mess otherwise and is logistically very difficult. Keeping colors sealed for later use also won't work unless you remove them from the palette. The palette itself is somewhat bigger and heavier than I expected, but I like it. The lid DOESNT seal all the way, so it's not airtight, but I also haven't tried removing the included mixing palette inside, either. I've left the palette in and the lid on, and so far the paint seems to be fine. I did try inserting a damp paper towel over the open jelly cups to keep them moister, but it didn't seem to help and it made the palette even more difficult to seal closed. The lack of an airtight seal is actually my only criticism of this product!! The gouache is an absolute joy to use right after opening - the texture is creamy, thick and smooth. I hope it stays more or less this way!!!! In my opinion, this is a great product, especially for the price.

Really versatile! 10/10 would recommend
I went into using/buying this paint completely blind and with zero expectations. I bullet journal and several people advised me to try using gauche since watercolor was bleeding too much. Iโve used gauche in the past, but never quite like this. The reviews were mostly positive so I decided to try these out. At first I was so worried about them drying out. Is that okay? Do I try to keep them sealed? I originally proceeded by trying to keep the wrappers on with tape. The problem, they wouldnโt quite fit comfortably back in the container. After one accidentally drying out, I realized I could just add water and it worked just as I hoped it would. *****I added a video of this for anyone curious.***** I just add water to rehydrate the paint and continue. The more you splash it around in the paint, the thicker or more opaque itโll get. If you want it more sheer, use more water. Itโs pretty cool how it works this way! Iโve had these for well over a year now (thatโs why the container and tubes looks dirty/used in pictures) and have had no problems with them whatsoever. It lasts for a while and I think Iโm set to continue using these for easily another couple years! The only thing that did bother me is the container. Itโs super nice but the little spaces for the paint to sit are sized perfectly for the paint, no additional spaces. So when I was trying to tape the wrapper back in place, it wouldnโt fit without the tops overlapping on one another and Iโd end up having to remove all the paints around the one I wanted to use. With that said, having removed all the wrappers anyway it is no longer a problem for me. Also, so few paints come with a container (especially such a nice one) so I wouldnโt deter anyone from purchasing for this reason. I admit I havenโt tried the brushes yet. But from first glance, they look really nice. Strong handle, lovely and shapely brush tips. I do intend to try them out if I can remember to pull them out again ๐ Conclusion: if youโre curious like I was, I definitely think this is a great buy. Itโs a lot of product for the price and, after almost two years of use, holds up well over time.

Perfect for underlayment of acrylic artwork.
What a fun item this has been for me. I mainly use acrylic for my portraits and wanted to try gouache for under painting before I started layering colors. These colors are beautiful! Very bold and heavily pigmented. I have been working in them for several weeks and still have generous amounts remaining. The container locks down securely preventing evaporation And guaranteeing fresh paint when used. I wish there had been more brown shades because I am a bit lazy in mixing colors. But acrylic layers over all of these colors beautifully and gives a richness to my portraits. Good value and saves acrylic paint because the base is complementary eliminating extra layers. The only suggestion I have that would make this a five star rating is that the little tubs of color overlap each other making it difficult to remove just one. If the container was just a bit bigger, this would be easier. Otherwise, this is a great product.

Low price encourages creativity
This is such a great set. The paints last and last. The color variety is incredible. The price is unreal. I feel I can experiment and fool around making art without worrying wasting expensive paints, which gives me more freedom to get creative.

Nice 2nd attempt
After seeing reviews of these all over YouTube, I decided to get one as well to experiment during quarantine times. I usually use watercolors and wanted to try something similar but a bit more opaque so gouache seemed like a good option. I organized the main points so itโll be easier to read- CUSTOMER SERVICE: I originally ordered one about a week ago, but was very disappointed to find that the brushes were completely missing and one of the paint cups was partially opened up (the swatch sheet was also missing but that wouldnโt have really been much of an issue regardless). Luckily, just a day after ordering a replacement, the new set arrived with all of the missing components and no open paint. Iโm havenโt even had a chance to return the original set yet, but am very happy with the quick response. PRODUCT REVIEW: The color of the actual case is exactly what I expected and itโs nice that the brush handles match. The whole thing is actually a bit heavier than I expected so I wouldnโt recommend it as a travel set, but the large amount of paint is very helpful for beginner experimentation. Unfortunately, the lid doesnโt close all the way, no matter what angle I try to force it down, and even without the palette, so air will get in and dry the paints. I havenโt tested the paints or the brushes yet but they seem good and the only bad thing I can think of about the brushes is that theyโll stain easily. Anyway, everything is pretty good overall and I like the fast customer service. :)

Loved how the colors came out
Used these to paint some air dry charms, they're gouache and kind of just melt/soak into the clay which gives the charms a more blended look as opposed to acrylic paint I loved that washed and blended look on my charms! It also dried relatively fast and if you wanted a deeper color, you could just layer on new coats of paint. I loved this set because personally when I paint, I take a long time so having a gouache set that doesn't dry(and if it does, you can just rehydrate) made me feel less stressed about painting as fast as possible. Definitely will use this more if I paint more clay charms!

In love
I'm new to gouache (usually use acrylic) and honestly I was not expecting to love this as much as I do for the price even after watching the reviews. It's so pigmented and more opaque than I expected. A little streaky on the first layer but it's easily fixable with a second layer. (I haven't used it on watercolor paper yet, but I will update this review it if there's any difference). I am glad I only got the 24 case because it's already huge and bulky so make sure you have the workspace for it especially if you get more colors. I love that you can buy individual refills too. Not enough companies do that. I can tell it's going to be a bit of work to maintain the colors and it won't be great for travel (the lid doesn't go on air tight to keep paints from going moldy) but for me during covid that's fine. But tube gouache might be better for you if you travel. My watercolor paintbrushes fit in the container. While I probably will use a glass pallet, I think it's super good that it comes with one and it's decent quality. And I've seen that you should leave the little lids half way on the container to keep from messing up your paint but personally I found it too messy so I just removed them. A little goes a long way. As a person very picky about pigmentation and paint I'm super happy with these. Awesome matte finish. Easily reactivated with water. Good for pros and beginners. The paint brushes it comes with are good beginner brushes but a pro might want to get other ones. Really its hard to impress me with paint but I love love this super cute pink himi gouache. And it's so affordable.

100% Recommend
I LOVE this set. I definitely recommend it. The palette comes with a great assortment of colours. They are great to use as-is, and they also mix and blend together very well to make custom colours and shades. They're highly pigmented and are great to use watered down as well as straight from the cups. The cups come with a really good amount of paint, you get a lot of product for your money. Like other gouache, these are water activated. I've had my palette about a month already and it's not even beginning to dry up- but when it does, you just need to spray water or add in drops of water to keep the paint in good condition. I also LOVE the brushes this set came with. They're good quality and they've actually become my favourite to use over the brushes I already owned. They hold a good amount of moisture, don't shed, and clean very nicely. And best of all, they're smooth like butter to paint with. I'm currently looking to buy this exact line of brushes in other sizes. The mixing palette is also nice. It's a standard plastic palette- good size, durable, and washes off nicely. The carrying case closes tightly and doesn't allow the paints to dry up easily. 1 CON- the set does not come with a colour guide or swatch sheet. You will need to look up the colour chart for the palette to know the colour names and create a sheet to swatch on. There's no labels on the covers or bottom of the cups to indicate the colour. Not a major con in my opinion, but it was slightly annoying at first trying to learn which colour was which.
