Zane Obispo's new life on a beautiful secluded tropical island, complete with his family and closest friends, should be perfect. But he can't control his newfound fire skills yet (inherited from his father, the Maya god Hurakan); there's a painful rift between him and his dog ever since she became a hell hound; and he doesn't know what to do with his feelings for Brooks. One day he discovers that by writing the book about his misadventures with the Maya gods, he unintentionally put other godborn children at risk. Unless Zane can find the godborns before the gods do, they will be killed. To make matters worse, Zane learns that Hurakan is scheduled to be executed. Zane knows he must rescue him, no matter the cost. Can he accomplish both tasks without the gods detecting him, or will he end up a permanent resident of the underworld? In this cleverly plotted sequel to The Storm Runner, the gang is back together again with spirited new characters, sneaky gods, Aztec royalty, unlikely alliances, and secrets darker than Zane could ever have imagined. Secrets that will change him forever. Review: A sequel that soars! - In the grand tradition of The Empire Strikes Back, Aliens and Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, this sequel is better than the original (which, by the way, was the absolute bomb). J.C. has done an outstanding job of creating a vibrant and engaging world for the readers. My son and I have been reading it before bed and I think I am enjoying it MORE than he is. It's a real page turner...and I learned a lot about the mythology of another culture. I also appreciated the glossary with the pronunciation of the characters names. It is helping me improve my Spanish, which is a VERY good thing. Muchas Gracias, J.C. Mi Hijo and I will be following your career "with great interest." Review: Great Book - This is a great book! Very well written, part of a series, for upper elementary and middle school students.

Great sequel!
Is it true the enemy of my enemy is my friend? Who can you trust when you are dealing with the queen of secrets? Faster paced than the first book and a great expansion of the story of Zane Obispo.

Great and amazing book!
I loved this book. Zane Is a great character and so are all the side characters. I love how he think Brooks is beautiful. Its not a good book if there isn't any romance. I also love that it takes place in New Mexico and that its based on Mayan Mythology. What a amazing book. And the second book is even better. Definitely recommend even for teens.

If you like Rick Riordan's series on the Greek and Roman gods, read this!!
My 11 year old absolutely loves the various Rick Riordan series about the Greek, Roman, etc. gods. This was a perfect follow up. The writing is superb and quick paced. Keeps the reader engaged, and we had a few issues with him not wanting to stop to go to bed! We highly recommend it!

Great second installment
I loved to see Zane's story continue, I think there's something so enduring about him and his trials that I get so emotionally attached to him. I love the writing, the character development, and how well new characters are quickly developed as well. I really loved the new characters from the second installment a lot. Each character has an interesting past exept those that you barely read about its paced beautifully and i can‘t say enough how good the books were overall. I give both books 5 of 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, because once I picked them up I couldn’t stop reading them.
