Appropriate title for this release!
Billy Sheehan delivers with his third great CD. He shows that his songwriting chops are just as important to the tunes as his awesome technical ability on the bass. Billy's voice is different than most lead singers, but still very cool. He uses his vocal range to great effect. If you liked his first two albums, get this one as well. If you haven't heard his stuff, the samples on here are a good taste of what's in store for you.

Five Stars
This CD is worth the price for "Make to Another Day" alone.

allright at best...
i don't like the production on this or Biily's voice. He just doesn't come off right as a singer at all.The problem with Billy is he's not a singer or a real guitar player. He's one of the great, great Bass Player of our time or anytime.I'm grad that he's getting to fullfil his dreams here, but the music and words are weak on this disc. There's maybe five cool songs here. I'll let you find them for yourself.Billy needs to stay within himself to be most effective, less is more sometimes and Billy should know that by now.

Billy delivers once again.
As Steve Vai puts it, Billy Sheehan is the greatest rock bass player in the world. This follow-up to the amazing and very experimental Cosmic Troubadour is an intense collection of songs that's more commercial and rock oriented. I ordered Holy Cow a few months ago as an import and was, again, blown away by the intensity and originality (not to mention the jaw-dropping technical wizardry) of Billy's bass playing. This guy has developed an incredible approach to the instrument that's all his own. And his vocals have never been better. All bass players and music enthusiasts owe it to themselves to give this album or the aforementioned Cosmic Troubadour a listen; both are outstanding accomplishments. Also, there are very interesting guest performances by the likes of Paul Gilbert, who contributes an amazing solo on "Dynamic Accelerator", Düg Pinnick, who lends his soulful voice to "The Turning Point" and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. Again, this is a great album which, in my humble bass player's opinion, deserves a 5 star rating.

LOTS of vocals this time out
It's important to say that I might be writing this review slightly prematurely as I've only listened through the cd in its entirety once. However, I felt it an important detail to note for prospective buyers of "Holy Cow!" that, unlike previous album "Cosmic Troubadour", this album is almost entirely comprised of vocal tracks. Discounting the 'bonus tracks' that should be included on your future copy (but let's face it, may be missing for whatever reason) there are only 3 instrumentals on Holy Cow, which, I imagine, will put some buyers off and entice others into giving Holy Cow a punt. Among the instrumentals are the gimicky "Theme From An Imaginary Sci Fi" and the excellent (though slightly Paul Gilbert centric) "Dynamic Exhilarator" so of the non-bonus tracks you'll only hear Billy going for an all-out bass instrumental work out on "Cell Towers".Having said that, Billy's vocals are good and arguably improving over previous attempts at handling lead vocals. The songwriting of the vocal tracks is consistent throughout, though there aren't any obviously mindblowing highlights, though the guest appearances can't help but stand apart, and there are (as you would expect) some slightly more lengthy bass solo/breakdown sections that partly redeem the lack of instrumental tracks. Billy Gibbons makes a (guitar only) contribution to the album's second track which adds to the album's intrigue, and Doug Pinnick makes a (vocal only) contribution replacing Sheehan on vocals for the 7 minute juggernaut/ballad "Turning Point". "Turning Point" is interesting as it can't help sounding like a King's X track with Billy on guest bass rather than a Billy Sheehan track with Doug on vocals. For the most part however, the songs are similar to the vocal tracks of previous album "Cosmic Troubadour", the main differences are the number of vocal tracks and the three big name guest appearances. (There's also a guitar solo from someone callled Simone Sello, an unknown to me and apparently not a big enough name to be mentioned on the back cover alongside the other three guests.)
