Not exactly "universal"
I ordered this as a replacement for a brass roller that had become lost (flushed?). It is brass-colored, but it is made out of plastic, with only a very thin metallic coating. It would probably work for most applications, however in my case the ends of the roller were too large (wide) to fit into the depressions of my brass fixture which had only 1/2 inch diameter clearance. The tapered ends of this replacement roller is wider than that, more like 9/16" or larger. So it isn't "universal".

Was not able to use due to the ends were to big to fit my porcelin tolet paper holder!
