Awesome Little Kayak
Love this kayak! Easy to inflate. Seat is sturdy and comfortable. I kayak the Willamette River in Oregon and stop at gravel bars and islands to look for agates, jasper, petrified wood. As I get into shallow water, I can put a foot out onto the gravel to stop and steady the kayak for getting out. Like most reviewers, I found the paddles to come apart easily, so I'm using the paddles that came with our old Sevylor raft which have a kayak paddle connector. I secure a duffel bag behind the seat with food, water, pump, patch kit and a few misc. items. It conforms to the air "bump" in back better than something rigid. The storage area in the front has a very secure net over it. Doesn't fit a lot of stuff but I can put my bag of rocks there. The drink holder is kid of useless because when the chamber is inflated the opening is so small that I'm afraid I will puncture the kayak trying to get a water bottle into it. I'm 64, 5' 2", 120 lbs and can handle the kayak with ease. I can carry it by hooking my hand between the inside of the outer chamber and the floor and carry it like a suitcase when inflated, or when deflated, fold it up and balance it on my head. I've taken the kayak over some small rapids which was really fun and I never felt like I would tip over. I think it would be a good idea to sit in the kayak in some waist deep water and try to capsize it to get an idea of how steady it is before taking it out for a trip, just for peace of mind. My son, who is 230 lbs, took it for a 2 miles trip down river while I followed in my raft, and it looked like it tracked much better with a heavier person in it. He is 5' 11" and was able to stretch out comfortably. I've also sat behind the seat while my son paddled and it's amazing how much weight this little kayak can handle. The pump also has a deflate option so you can get all of the air out of the chambers to fold it up. Great product.

Where has this been all my life?💝
I bought 2 of these. One for me, and one for my kayak buddy - my husband. I had some worries that it would be just some beach float pretending to be a kayak. This is not a float. This is a kayak! Easy to follow - instructions just do the set-up and take down one step at a time. The blow up process is fast. I didn't time it, but the pump blows air in on the push down and pull up. We inflated them, then took a 10 minute break to let the let the air bladders relax so we could fully inflate the kayak. So, blow up, break, finish blowing up is the secret there. Follow the directions to convert the backpack into a seat. Easy! A lot of reviews say the paddles are crap, and that's because they are! 😜 It's a byop (buy your own paddle) situation. There are really nice paddle cleats on one side of the kayak. Inflated it feels light as a beach float, so you just carry it to the water. Deflated, it feels WAY lighted then my hard shell kayaks, but oddly heavier then when it was inflated. SO, the launch! Carried it to the water, plopped it in the water, wasn't sure exactly how to get on an inflatable kayak. I just sat on it as close to the seat as I could get, brought my legs up and go comfortable in the seat. My husband is taller and heavier than I am, but he also had no problem getting in the floating inflatable. The ride is nice, but you do have to use really smooth strokes because it wants to tac left and right a bit. It just takes a few minutes to adjust your paddle method to correct this. It's really stable! I tried to get it to pitch me in the water. It didn't. I wiggled, wobbled, suddenly changed body positions - it didn't even come close to tipping. My husband tried too, but same results for both of us. The dismount was super easy! Just get in shallow water, and swing your legs off one side. Stand-up, put your paddle in the cleats, pick-up the kayak, and walk out of the water. So easy!! The backpack seat is really comfortable. The whole kayak is really comfortable. The deflation process is so easy! They plump has an inflate side, and a deflate side. It goes super flat super fast! Folding it was easy. I did have a problem getting the cargo nets off, so I just left them on. Because I did that, I had to use a couple of bungee cords to make it stay in the backpack. No big deal at all. A little about us. I'm 55, and a 30 year kayaker. I have done white water and still water kayaking. I have a bad left leg. I've had 16 surgeries, 2 ankle replacements, from a catastrophic injury. This is the best kayak I've ever ridden. My husband is 71, and a kayaker for 10 years. He has a lower spine fusion (football stuff, y'all). He loves his inflatable kayak. I'm his hard shell kayak, his butt would go numb, he'd wiggle around and end up swimming. I build out riggers on it, but the numb butt thing made kayaking not so fun even without being tossed into the drink! His butt doesn't go numb with this kayak. I believe it's because he has better circulation because your blood can circulate better on a soft seat. He also had no problem getting comfortable in the seat. The back seems to have better structure then those little backed seats on our hard shells. This kayak is great. I'd never take it in white water, but I can take it out all day on calm water.

economical, stable, and easy to set up.
I really like how easy it is to inflate and set up. No trailer or roof rack is necessary for transportation! If I could, I would make a couple of changes to improve it though. First I would add a handle near where the cup holder is currently to make it easier to carry by one person. Secondly, I would move the cup holder about 6 inches further away from the seat, so that it isn't located right near your crotch for larger folks such as myself. A little more leg room would be nice too. Overall, I really like it. It's stable and easy to use and a great introduction to kayaking. I'm a big woman and I have a bad knee and I can get in and out of the kayak pretty easily. I typically get a little wet getting in and out, but not overly so. I have found that it is easier to get on by facing away from the side of the kayak. Once my rear end is on the seat, I just swing my legs over and adjust myself until I'm comfortable. I have used it a few times now, and it's comfortable and stable enough to explore various lakes for several hours at a time. If you are looking for an economical introduction to kayaking, this kayak totally works. But if you want a kayak for rougher water or need better handling and maneuverability, you should be prepared to spend more for a higher end kayak. This kayak maneuvers well in calm lake conditions, but is harder to control in windy conditions or with rough waves. Overall, it's a great introductory kayak. I had never gone kayaking before I got this kayak, and now I love it and I can't wait for my next trip to the lake. I would recommend it.

A seriously excellent little kayak.
As soon as I saw that the manufacturer was Sevylor, I paid attention and purchased one because I have had one of their inflatable dinghys for more than 25 years as my ship-to-shore and anchor placement transport with never a problem of any kind. My first test of the K1 kayak just occurred this morning and Sevylor totally lived up to my expectations…and here is why you may wish to listen to me. I’m just turning 79 and for 75 of those years (yes, since the age of 4) I have been a serious sailer and power boater all over the U.S. and Europe as well as a canoeist and kayaker on both flat and white water from New England to the Rockies to the West Coast. For more than 20 years I have used a Perception for white water and a Hobie for flat water on the West Coast, the East Coast, and many places betwixt and between and dearly love them and the fact that the Hobie paddles, pedals, and sails…truly wonderful thing. However, I am now old, puny, and needed another kayak that can fit anywhere including a car trunk and can be easily transported on my back to bodies of water more challenging to access such as remote mountain lakes. The K1 seemed like a possible answer but I was concerned with how well it would perform as well as inflate, breakdown, and fit once more in the back pack. What I found was that the inflation process took me 15 minutes the first time and 6 minutes the second time. Each fold down process took me about that same amount of time as well and it actually did fit easily into the back pack. I also noted in a review I read that someone found it challenging to thoroughly dry and clean it before folding it up but the simple solution for me was to give the top surfaces a quick wipe down fresh out of the water with a little bar rag carried in a pocket before deflating it and then wipe down the bottom surface after I deflated it as I folded it up. No problem as you can see in the attached photo allowing me to return home with no further clean-up required. In terms of performance, my first concern based on reviews I read was how squirrelly the K1 would be but I found that it tracks very well (what I couldn’t see in the Amazon.com photos were the two skegs fore and aft on the bottom which are a great help) and is also very stable because it is beamy. At the same time it maneuvers quickly and well. My second concern regarding performance arose from reading several reviews that mention the apparent inadequacy of the paddle but here again I found it to be perfectly acceptable and therefore did not feel any need to use another one of my paddles. There are three negatives I need to mention: First, the back pack turned into seat is uncomfortable in my opinion. It hits me awkwardly in mid-back and there is no means by which to tie the top edge in place. The life vest helps overcome this. Second, the straps and flaps that retain the folded up kayak in the back pack could in my opinion be better designed. Placing the kayak carefully partially alleviates this. Three, the three plastic hooks at the corners of the triangular net are very difficult to take out of their slots once installed. They will probably loosen up with use. In conclusion, I appreciate the compactness, light weight, and quality of the K1 plus believe based on my experience that Sevylor does a very fine job of designing and manufacturing inflatables that are seriously excellent…and no, I don’t have anything to do with the company.

Reasonable Quality, Good Price, Good for Beginners (Poor Customer Service)
Review update 7-6-2022 All the same statements I made previously still stand with the exception that I cannot recommend the purchase of this kayak based on Sevylor/Coleman's customer service. On my second use of the product one of the plastic buckles that secures the seat and provides seat adjustment broke. Since the buckle was sewn into the strap, it could not be easily replaced. I contacted customer service to see what could be done. The response basically said that they had no replacement parts for this product and sorry, you're out of luck. Nothing whatsoever was offered to keep a happy customer. Partial refund, credit to other products, nothing... Long story short, I was able to engineer a better than new solution (with no sewing) that took about an hour and $25.00 USD. So like I said, all the information I provided below is still valid, but customer service has caused me to withdraw my recommendation of the product. Buy it only if you're handy with fixing things. Oh, and additionally when I tried to contact customer service a 2nd time (after their response), their mail box was full and couldn't accept more emails. I tried 3 more time to contact them with the same result. I live I the Sacramento, CA area and we have a lot of places to play on the water. I have wanted to get out on the water for years and finally got more serious about finding something to help me do that. I've been out in this kayak multiple times now on the flat water of a reservoir and have had a blast every time. Bottom-line, I would recommend this kayak for beginners (which I am), good price, convenience of storage, portability and reasonably durable quality. Now for the pros and cons: Pros: -Very portable, folds up easily and stores in its own backpack -Sturdy feel, the inflation chambers live inside a fabric (top) and heavy weight plastic (hull) shell -Nice size cockpit (although I wouldn't recommend for folks bigger and taller than me (5"7", 175 lbs) -Generous zippered storage behind cockpit/seat -Zip in splash and chill guard so you can have a closed cockpit or open cockpit -Light weight (a little over 30 lbs.) but seems durable -Quick to inflate with included pump (unload from car to ready for the water in less than 10 minutes -VERY comfortable, soft on the tush Cons: -Plastic "D" rings. Two of mine broke right away. Replaced them with Stainless S-Biners and now no issue -Plastic buckles for seat adjustment. One of mine broke the first time I tried to adjust the seat. And unfortunately its a sewn on buckle so I'm not even sure how to replace without a big production. I'm in contact with the manufacturer now to see if they have a solution. -Slow in the water (which seems to be a common issue with less expensive inflatables) -Non-removable skeg which means it folds to the hull when you put it in the backpack and doesn't ever hang completely straight. I do think it affects the kayak's ability to track. -The included oar is terrible due to the placement of the tightening mechanisms. It is difficult to find a hand position that is comfortable and avoids blisters. Bought another paddle almost right away. All in all if you want reasonable quality at a bargain price and you don't know if kayaking is for you, this kayak might be a good starter..

Difficult to steer
Bottom line: No matter how wonderful the inflation, set up & portability are, if I can't make the kayak go where I want it to, it is going back. For more perspective: I was so excited to get this product. I'm a 60 yo female slightly large build and frame (170#), moderately active, but definitely not a fitness buff or athlete. We live in the Florida Keys, so the plan was to take this on the shallow bays and around mangroves. Down here, you don't mind getting wet - it usually feels good! Fairly easy to set up. There are two types of inflator valves. The large ones were easy to use, the small ones were impossible to push in to close the valve while the pump was hooked up (as recommended). But all very doable. I liked the backpack to seat configuration and ultimately the seat was comfortable in the water. Easy to carry once inflated. I'm familiar with the different types of kayaks and thought I wanted a sit on top which this kayak it. Unfortunately it, too, sits on top of the water. Which means that it skates across the top of the water. The tiny fins on the bottom do not do enough to keep it in a straight line. No matter what paddle stroke I tried the front end continuously fish tailed. I tried to go around some mangroves in very calm water, but didn't want to get too close because the maneuverability was poor both forward paddling & back paddling. I took it in a small breeze (5mph?), where I needed to paddle harder to make headway. The front end would literally turn 90 degrees (45 from center one way or the other) with one stroke. I couldn't cross the open water and had to follow the edge back to my starting point. Getting in and out of the kayak was as expected. I'm not particularly graceful, so I did go swimming getting out, but I think that was operator error. Deflating was a breeze! With the pump on reverse, you can really suck the air out, which makes folding it much easier. No problems fitting it all back into the back pack which was really nice. A lot of people comment on the paddle. Yes, a better paddle would be nice and might have helped a little with the directional abilities, but I don't think it would be enough to make me comfortable overall. And it would take away some of the portability.

Love these Kayaks!
Bought 2 of these after doing some research and not being able to purchase hard shell kayaks locally or within a reasonable delivery date and delivery price (due to COVID-19, ALL the hard shell kayaks at ALL the local stores were sold out, and ALL the entry level kayaks (<$500) were on back order plus there was a huge delivery fee for online purchase). These were delivered within 3 days with free delivery. Honestly, we were skeptical about purchasing inflatable kayaks, but these have more than meet our needs! My daughter (15yo) and myself (56 yo) wanted kayaks for our COVID-19 Social Distancing Summer activity (and we were really missing our normal pool time). These are EXTREMELY easy to inflate (pump included is easy to use). We leave them partial inflated (mostly inflate, we deflate the chair back and the footbed, but leave the two main compartments inflated) and we are able to transport them in the back of our mini van with the seats down; so no need for a roof rack and the two of us are able to get them loaded and carried down to the water by ourselves. We have taken them out a total of 9 times on a nearby county park 300+ acre lake... and have no real complaints! The only con, you will NOT win a race with these kayaks - ha! Because they are full of air and you're sitting on top of the water (instead of down in the water like you would be in a hard shell kayak), you just aren't able to slice through the water at any great speed. As others have mentioned, the paddles are marginal at best... but we have had no problems with them. My husband gave them a real work out and they did come apart of him (he torched too much trying to paddle hard), but the paddles did NOT break, they just twisted apart. My daughter and I just really float around and are in no hurry to explore the lake. We were able to purchase these @ $150 each (I'm sure the price was inflated due to COVID-19, I think they were in the $120 price range this time last year), but that has been a good price point for us. The lake were we go rents kayaks @$13 hour or $25 two hours , so they have paid for themselves (plus no waiting in line or no worries then the rental shack is closed for the day). We have been stopped and asked about the kayaks every time we use them... I'm pretty sure we will be able to resell them at a decent price if we decide to purchase hard shell kayaks. They are easy to get on and off of at the water's edge, and we have not had any problems with them taking on water (and I am not a small person). Plus we have not had an damage to them during our use (we put in a concrete boat ramp or at a rock beach area).

Amazing Kayak
I can not say enough good things about this Kayak. It is so easy to blow up and I found it to be very steady on the water. The material is super durable and the back seat really does provide support for your back. I am 5'3 and found it to be the perfect size for me. I think it would be good for anyone under 6 ft. I am also on the heavier side over 200lbs and the boat completely did not sink at all with me on it. I think for the cost of this kayak you can not go wrong. It really does pack up nicely and you can carry it like a backpack just like the picture shows.

Great portable Kayak and should be 5 Stars, but...
The Quickpak K5 is a great single person inflatable Kayak that can actually be carried long distances and should be a firm 5 Stars. I've had it on lakes and in the sea, in sunshine wind and rain and it handles really well. But... there is no support for this in the UK. I now have a problem with one of the main bladder valves that will need the bladder replacing and I can't seem to get spares anywhere. I've tried the Europe and the UK distributor and tried to make contact with Coleman in the US, but no-one seems able to help. Another problem is the connectors for the 3 piece paddles. They aren't really up to the job and I have had two snap on me. You can find replacements on amazon, but unfortunately these are not as strong as the originals. Better to buy a good two-piece. Amazon (who sells the product itself) also doesn't seem to have a mechanism to help people in my position either, just 6 months after the sale. If you choose to buy one, they are amazing fun and very capable, but don't expect to be able to get any spares, So if you have a catastrophic failure you could be out of action for a long time, or not recover it at all, unless Amazon starts importing the spares.

Spectacular!
This is a spectacular purchase. Strong, durable materials, the covering fabric is tough and slick aesthetically as well. It exceeded my expectation for comfort. I'm 6'0/175 and its very comfortable. I don't know why people are crying about the paddle, I find it very durable and super light, which works well for the portability of this product. I can see why people are a bit uneasy though. It comes in one easy box. The hand pump is very effective and its ready to go in a few minutes. My only critique is that there should be an excitment warning: don't sit in it when you first blow it up, cause it bends the bottom fin (which I had to put a weight on for an hour to bend back). But your instinct is to hop right in after you turn the backpack into your seat!
