Question 1

What if someone wanted to use this item for, let's say, a sump pump.  Whould this be a good idea!???

I am an engineer for Schneider Electric. These Are not designed to run motor loads due to the in rush current of a motor when it starts. There are better alternatives for that particular application such as a basement watch dog that has a DC motor with high current capability and a charging system. To even consider running a sump pump on a UPS it must be sized at least 6 times the motors run current.  1/2 HP sump pump on average pulls 10 amps running. Which would mean a UPS capable of delivering 60 amps. 60x120= 7.2kW or about 8 times the power that this UPS is capable of delivering. Even considering only the running amps of this UPS and a 1/2 HP pump it would be overloaded as 900 watts equates to 7.5 amps.

Question 2

There appears to be 8 outputs, how many are actually Battery outputs and not just surge protected outputs?

As mentioned, all of the outlets in this series are battery-protected.  The number of outlets will depend on model. Question 3

Does the 1500VA pull 15amps or does it just need to be put on a 15 amp circuit?

Assuming 120v at the outlet, 1500VA would be about 12.5 amps.  I doubt the UPS would draw that much unless under 100% load.  If that's the case, you likely need a larger model.  Perhaps if it we're under 100% load and charging the batteries...  In any case, a residential outlet should be rated to at least 15 amps...

what type of wall plug does it use?  canit plus into a standard outlet type?

Depends on the model you get.  The 750VA, 1000VA and 1500VA models all have standard 15A plugs.  The 2200VA model uses a 20A plug and needs a 20A outlet (and circuit, of course).  Then 3000VA model uses a 30A locking plug and needs a corresponding outlet and circuit.
