SHEPHERD OF HERMAS COLLECTION [2 BOOKS] The Shepherd of Hermas is a Christian literary work of the late 1st or mid-2nd century, considered a valuable book by many Christians, and considered canonical scripture by some of the early Church fathers such as Irenaeus. The Shepherd was very popular amongst Christians in the 2nd and 3rd centuries. It was bound as part of the New Testament in the Codex Sinaiticus, and it was listed between the Acts of the Apostles and the Acts of Paul in the stichometrical list of the Codex Claromontanus. The work comprises five visions, twelve mandates, and ten parables. It relies on allegory and pays special attention to the Church, calling the faithful to repent of the sins that have harmed it. โBOOKSโ THE PASTOR OF HERMAS THE WORKS OF THE SHEPHERD OF HERMAS PUBLISHER: AETERNA PRESS

Yes, that's right, Catholic. Welcome to the Early Church before it was tainted.
I love how so many people review the writings of the early Church fathers as sounding too "Catholic." Welcome to the early Church, the Christian religion has been changed. Whether you like it or not, early Christians were very much "Catholic." Christianity has since turned into a build-your-own religion & people, instead of recognizing the truth, seem to think the writings have been tampered with, however, you can easily verify this by looking up the originala found dating from the 1st & 2nd centuries & translating them yourself. They have not been changed. But people don't want to do all this, they just want to believe what they want to believe. Build-a-Jesus. One reviewer saying "too Catholic for my taste." Ha, The Shepherd of Hermas wasn't written for "your taste," it is an actual early Church writing, not a Fiction book or romance novel.

Interesting
An interesting text, categorized by Danielou as a source of early Jewish Christianity. Many early Fathers, including Irenaeus of Lyons, considered it scripture. Some complained that it's "too Catholic". Well, that's what one finds when reading the Early Church, because the Early Church was Catholic.I give it 4 stars because it's not two books as titled, but one book, presented twice. It is the translation found in the Ante-Nicene Fathers series, even to the point of reproducing scanning errors made some 30 years ago when scans were put in the public domain.
