This printer prints. Let the angels sing.
It's a printer and it prints. I bow before this printer's printing prowess. You might as well ask for a unicorn these days when you go printer hunting, because the last two printers I've owned wouldn't print. Yes, I know how to work a printer. But there are issues with certain Brother machines playing nicely with Macs, and if I'd had any hair left to pull out after the maelstrom that is 2020, I'd have pulled it out already with my last two machines. If you want a printer that can print in black and white and color, this is it.If you want a printer that can print double sided, this is it.If you want a printer that you can print from wirelessly and from your phone but also via USB if you feel like it, this is it.If you want a printer that can also scan and copy, this is it.If you want a printer that does not require printing a test page before every printing job, this is it.If you want a printer that your cat will attack for absolutely no reason except that she can not stand the blue light that's sometimes visible at night, and is wide enough for said cat to sit on and feel dominant over as if she won the blue light war, this is also it.If you want a printer that you can unplug because your toddler likes to drain your entire black cartridge by scanning a blank piece of paper and then printing it out as a full black 8.5X11 sheet, and when you plug it back in again after they go to bed so you can print out your time-sensitive project IT ACTUALLY CAN FIND THE WIFI by itself without you having to download a driver, uninstall the entire printer and then wait for an hour on hold with tech support, this is definitely it.Buy this printer, give them your money, give them more money and then make sacrifices of paper and ink to this printer for the gift of Just Printing that it gives to you. Throw your old machine into the nearby volcano that 2020 will undoubtedly randomly provide, and give thanks for the crops that grow and the sun that shines on this printer. It survives being unplugged, attacked by cats, printing entire sheets of only black ink, and power outages. And it still just connects to the internet and prints. By itself.I print from my phone. I print from my laptop wirelessly AND wired, if I want. I unplug it and sic my cat and toddler on it, and THEN plug it back in and print from my phone from in the shower with my phone in a waterproof bag while standing on my head, and it will still print. I print with only five sheets of paper in the tray, and I print double sided or in black and white. I also print double sided AND in black and white, just because I can. And you, my friend, can as well. Just buy this printer, and all this magic is yours. Yes, the cartridges are sometimes hard to find. Yes, the subscription ink thing feels scammy and ick, but just buy the cartridges off here or from Staples or something, and it's all good because it PRINTS.Cue Handel's Hallelujah Chorus.

Easy to setup
Great printer. Relatively fast prints and great quality for basic text documents.

Not bad, Not great
Set up was rather frustrating for my husband and took him more then 2 hours to get both of our computers connected. I run off of a Mac which can itself be an issue as Apple seems to not like anything other than Apple products. The fact that there was no real instruction manual made the set up process trial and error. However, he did get it up and get it running. The first day was wonderful. The print quality is awesome and we went with HP because of their InstantInk program. I teach out of my home and print often. I was tired of my old Epson being empty of ink after 50 prints which could easily happen in one day. The fact that HP will monitor my ink levels and send the ink right to me saves me a ton of time and headache. This printer works fine for my husband who is on a 7 year old HP computer. But my Mac still does not like it. My Mac is about 5 years old and runs like a work horse but because it is so out of date I can not access the scan feature on the printer as I do not have enough storage. I'm frustrated by this as I scan often. This means I will have to scan to my husbands computer and then email it to myself. This has never been an issue with any other printer and we replaced our 6 mo printer with this one so I'm not sure why 6 mo. is making that big of a change. I also have an issue with the connectivity. My computer always seems to "lose" the printer and it will take at least a good 15 min. for the computer to find the printer and then complete the print job. This may be a Mac/non-Mac issue but it's driving me nuts. Even worse is the buttons on the printer are clear and the printer is white and you really can't see them. In the past I've been able to turn off the printer and then resetting it would help my computer find the printer but this process isn't working. There is also very little in the range of options on this printer. I've yet to discover how to shrink a document. On my old HP I was able to select the percentage I wanted to shrink the page by. It doesn't seem this is an option, or if it is I have yet to discover it as there is no real manual! There are only 6 buttons on the printer, an x, two page buttons (not sure the difference between them), an info button, the wifi and an arrow. I have no idea what all these do or why they are there and it is very, very hard to see them. I do not have bad vision nor am I lacking in technology skills but I do not find this printer very user-friendly. If you can figure it out it is a great printer at the price point and produces a great quality print. However, if technology does not come easily to you or you aren't able to figure it out on your own without a manual or help you may want to look for a more straight forward printer. There is an app that you can use to install your printer but my husband could not get it to work for him. Overall, decent printer, love HP InstantInk program, frustrating process and less then straightforward machine with features that I can not use. I would probably pick a different printer down the road, but for now we can make it work.
