Q: i live in the us, do i need to get a special convertor for this to work in my kitchen?

Q: how many plates does this come with?

Multi-plate means the griddle inserts shown in the photo. I don't have it in front of me. My wife has it, but I see a total of 5 inserts. The white one appears to be something that makes it like a crock pot.
