Excellent sound. Must be amplified

Fantastic, IF you have the required setup
You absolutely have to amplify these if you listen to loud volumes. Their sensitivity rating is only 84db, while most speakers are 88-92db. BUT they will get loud if powered appropriately. They give you so many mounting options. I did not realize my 08 toyota solara had such big holes. But these speakers come with appropriate mounting hardware, and TONS of foam. You want to use that foam to reduce rattles, and couple the speaker with the door panel. I have a pioneer 9705 5 channel amp. Dash speakers on the front channels, woofers *wired in parallel with a set of pyramid w64s* on the rear channels. That pyramid brings up a good point. These 6x9s do extremely well if you're listening to say rap or pop. But actual music like rock, having those pyramids in the rear panels help alot. The 6x9s struggle just a tad. The dash speaker does not play extremely high. If you're used to overly bright and sharp tweeters, you will be dissapointed here. The 6903 will severely help if you can fit 3.5" in your dash. This isn't a bad speaker, and is perfect for me. Just be warned, it will be different if coming from a regular tweeter. But needing an amp, isn't just for power. At factory, these don't image very well. I find myself turning the dash speakers down a notch or two, and its perfection. The included crossovers are absolute junk. They rob a decent bit of power, and actually produce a tiny noise to the dash speakers when first powered. Factory, they are 850hz crossed over on BOTH midrange and dash. Using pioneers active crossover on my headunit- the woofer I set at 1.5khz at 24db, dash at 1.5khz at 12db. The dash speaker gets beamy around 900hz, as well as 2.5khz. 1.5khz cleans that up. Kenwood even advertises their x400-4 as being able to play these active, BUT the lowest it can crossover the woofer is 2.5khz. When the included crossover is 850hz. Trying to ask Kenwood about this, their reps don't know audio very well. I like these speakers, but I feel like 230$ is a bit high. The mounting options are fantastic yes. But I feel like the 6902 should set closer to the 150$ mark. The 6903 has a MUCH nicer 3.5" dash speaker, that is being sold as the same price as the 6902.

The Excelelon Reference is awesome
Simply said, the speakers are excellent. They are very easy to install with the appropriate adapters. As I have heard these gems in a demonstration room with great satisfaction, I was surprised how well they performed in my SUV. My only complaint is that part of the speaker description on Amazon is incorrect.
