The AnyTone AT-D578IIIPRO is a true TRI band radio for DMR radio systems, compatible with MOTOTRBO Tier 1 and 2. Traditional FM is of course, equally supported. In contrast to many other DMR radios, the 578 offers real VFO operations, which makes it much more suitable for amateur radio 4000 memory channels, 10,000 talk groups, 200,000 digital contacts. The AT-D578UVIIIPRO is a fantastic mobile radio with the same functionalities as an "878UV HT but with more power in a mobile case”. Including all the well-known functions like APRS in FM (TX wise) digital roaming, and the Bluetooth option. The AT-D578UVIIIPRO now offers the possibility to receive DMR and analog channels at the same time. Of course, you can receive two analog channels as well. For easy setting, each of the two bands has its own volume control, which is assigned to one VFO each. No Repeater ID function
Unlike radios like the less expensive Kenwood TM-V71A, the AT-D578 does not support automatic ID (call sign) transmission on the control channel as required to legally operate the radio in crossband repeater mode when channel A is a duplex repeater and channel B is a simplex (control) channel. Radios like the Kenwood provide a transmit ID option (off, code, voice) and a transmit message (call sign) that when configured transmits the message regularly in compliance the FCC regulations. Spoke with BridgeComm today and hopefully this feature will be in a firmware update ASAP. Other than that I would rate the AT-D578 as five stars.Update - Any Tone takes the position that the automatic ID (call sign) is not required, based on their interpretation of FCC Part 97 "auxiliary station" implementation. "An auxiliary station may under certain circumstances, be automatically controlled and may send one way transmission. (97.201(d)..(e)."

Nice radio. Many features, but over-priced for a Chinese radio with no U.S. based repair service
Nice build. Excellent audio quality. A lot of features. Overpriced for a Chinese made radio as there is no U.S. service center. I have firmware version 1.06 loaded and it has a few bugs that need to be addressed.

Loose GPS antenna connector
First, let me say I like the radio! Some minor glitches but overall good. So why the 1 star? The GPS antenna connector is not LOCKED into the housing and can turn causing it to get loose which twists the connecting cable inside the radio. Once this happens you can't attach or detach the GPS antenna as you normally would! I had to return this radio due to this engineering flaw.

Needs more beta-testing: Crossband DMR stops working after radio idle for 1/2 hour.
Love the radio, for the most part..., and when it works, that is. Aside from the lack of separation for the head unit, which can be overcome with some mounting shenanigans, when the radio works its pretty good.Receiver performance is far superior to the 878/MD5, it seems to pick things where the Alinco MD5 wont' even break the squelch. As a standalone unit the radio works fairly well, provided you don't use the Bluetooth or the BT PTT... et all.So, why 1 star then?Simple, the features that make this radio stand out don't work all the time, or consistently, and when this happens there isn't much you can do to fix that and frustration sets in.The list of issues I've run into so far are: (firmware 1.05)-Bluetooth will stop transmitting voice after paired for a few minutes without a transmission. As in, radio will transmit, you speak to your Senna headset microphone but no voice will be heard on the other end. Upon pairing it works like a charm.-Bluetooth won't automatically reconnect if the headset is turned off, then back on. (LAME) Need to power the radio down and then back up.-Bluetooth PTT won't reconnect automatically after powering up unless you explicitly go into the menus to connect it. (LAME)-Crossband DMR repeat will stop working after radio is been sitting idle for 1/2 hour or so. (WHT?) Need to take the radio out of Crossband mode, then toggle it back on.-Crossband DMR won't transmit back on A when Band A is selected, the active band needs to be B in order to be a true two way crossband that receives on B and transmits on A, and vice versa.-Crossband DMR won't pass get GPS position, call-alert, or radio check, etc, type of messages, like a DMR repeatershould, so if you are using two 878s one in VHF and another on UHF, with the 578 set to crossband mode, neither of the 878s will be able to perform range measurements within each other, radio checks, etc... that is pretty significant missing functionality.-In Crossband mode you can't TX by keying up the microphone PTT. My TYT 8000E radio can do this.-No option to turn off the screen from the menus, or a time out. (How so?)-PA and PD are hardcoded to some function, and no matter what you set in the CPS, you can't use those two buttons.-No speed dial with the microphone keypad??? Really?? Even my BF-1801 45 dollar especial has this feature. (LAME)That's all I can remember now, hope these get fixed, if not I'll dump the radio and move on.G.

This radio does it all and the audio quality is superior
I absolutely love this radio. You can customize it any way you like it. All of my favorite nets are reporting 5:5 from me. They are even asking what my setup is because it sounds so good on Analog. The CPS programming software is a bit clunky, but it works. It takes some practice to figure it all out. I have changed my load a dozen times already after understanding how all the settings work. Bluetooth works great as does GPS reporting. The screen is easy to read and very customizable. If you don't need the Bluetooth or GPS, you can save $100 and get the standard version. You can also get a FCC part 90 commercial version that is dual band only, but you can unlock all the bands and keypad if you know what you are doing. It is not as simple as a checkbox in the software. It also involves finding the password online to unlock the maintenance mode and then creating a specific codeplug for that mode. (Mode 14 is God Mode). I cannot say enough about how much I love this radio. I will say that if you don't know how to DMR, then you can use this as a very nice analog radio, but you should research DMR operation and you must get a Digital Radio ID if you intend to use the DMR functionality.
