Great little tablet
Tablet cheap and it has lots of apps. Bought this for my son and he loves it. It's perfect for kids and it's light. You can buy a light heavy duty case for it to protect it from kids. Tablet loud and the sound quality sounds like what you get from something high dollar.

Aging technology still holds up well
Kindle 7s at this point are a niche ask because of their lack of modern functionality and the device's operational speed, which is average. It also suffers a bloatware problem that takes up valuable space on the device and is impossible to opt out of. That said, I love this little thing for what it CAN give me, which is access to my library and all of the audiobooks and books I want without leaving my house. The fact that it's older works well for my use, as I don't want the bells and whistles that come with modern Kindles -- I just wanted a way to read books and listen to audiobooks from my library, and despite some delays due to the older technology, it does that for me extremely well.If you're looking for a simple device that works fairly well and that you intend to focus primarily offline and/or with Libby and your Kindle Library, this device is absolutely great. Refurbished like I got is even better, as you're giving a lonely little Kindle a home AND getting at-home access to your library.

Great Tablet for less
I was an early adopter of kindle tablets. Part of what I liked was that there was basic software for weather, email, and other apps you would need for day to day use. I know that the Google app store isn't here, but there are games I do like that are exclusive to this device, such as the 11 in 1 Card Games Bundle, E4 Version of Solitaire, and a few other things. It is a trivial thing perhaps but it is something I have used through out the time I have had a kindle. Card Shark lite runs on this where the Google version loaded on other Android devices doesn't always run.I know people complain that this is completely a service driven device but sometimes, simplicity is a positive thing. As I got older I realized that more features often means more stuff to go wrong. I do use the Amazon music app, though I am evaluating it. But it plays music really well. A crummy stereo can sound like a Bose, due to the quality of the streaming on Amazon Music. I have used Audible to help me read and finish books that I had little energy to finish. Sometimes the narrator has helped me to appreciate a story that I would not have been able to appreciate otherwise, much less finish. And it is nice to have a book read to you sometimes, rather than staring at a screen when you are tired, too tired to focus. I do use this mostly for e book reading. I have tried the other devices, but this is more vibrant to read on.I got this to replace an 8 inch with wi fi issues. I can throw it in a bag because it is small. And I use it in conjunction with my android phone because each new incarnation of android is more worse. In the beginning it took a third of the storage, now it is over 50 percent. And it is impossible to load software, even basic stuff with out having to upgrade every year. I have become sick of the low storage on my phone warnings, every time I want to put an app on it, no matter how small. This tablet has 32 gigs of space and was five dollars cheaper than the 16 gig. Plus I can use the memory card to store apps. It is easier, I have found than using the latest google system.I think it is a bargain. It is nice to buy something so it doesn't end up in a landfill. And for what I need it for, reading, Audible, and the few apps, it is a great addition to my life.

More frustrating than useful
I have had Fire HD tablets in the past and swore I would never again. I did. I hoped that Amazon had improved the handy little device for me being able to read my Kindle library somewhere other than on my computer. Additionally, I had hoped I could use this for watching my streaming services while on the treadmill.First, the responsiveness of the tablet is a joke. There are cheaper Android tablets out there that are more responsive and load more quickly. When the system does come up fully after about 10 minutes, you can begin to use it -- but not well. It frequently locks up, freezes or crashes on Amazon apps. Using Kindle is a horrible experience on this device and is so frustrating that you end up spending more time trying to get the device to work than actually reading. Don't even think about trying to use the Amazon Silk browser for any internet surfing - it doesn't work on 9 out of 10 websites or crashes.Streaming apps work as long as you have NOTHING else running and don't expect to touch anything during play. Best option is to not even breathe on the device while playing or you will spend the next 15 minutes trying to restart the streaming app and finding where you left off with the lagging controls.Other issues are with the touch screen being responsive, the horrible battery life, the garbage running in the background that you have ridiculous battery life.I will be sending this one back, lesson learned....again.
